Reed Tool PPR100 Clean Ream Extreme with 1/4" Hex Shaft, 1" Head Aluminum

I have been a professional landscape contractor since 1977, and am an expert in irrigation and irrigation repair. If you are wondering if this tool will work to remove a broken pipe from a fitting, I can attest that it will work fantastically. Don't buy the cheap ones - I have used them all. Spend the extra money and buy this one. It is very good quality and works perfectly if you do it right. Here are some tips from a pro. Cut the pipe flat across the fitting. I use a battery grinder with a metal cutting blade. This works great and is fast. A hacksaw will also work fine - just carefully cut it flat. The bit has a 3/8" shank which is very tight or may not even fit on some 3/8" drills. I got it to fit on my 3/8" Dewalt battery operated drill but it is a really tight fit. Use a 1/2" drill if you have one. My battery operated one works great but I always have 2-3 charged batteries on hand because the process will usually take longer than one battery can power. Avoid too much pressure while drilling out the pipe and use the low speed. Light pressure is best and take your time and hold the drill tightly and try not to let it wobble around. Brace it on your leg or shoe while drilling. Lubricate the bit with cold water! The bit will get hot and melt the plastic if not lubricated with water. It is better to cut than melt. Use a cold bottle of drinking water and dribble it on the bit periodically when cutting. This helps a lot and keeping it lubed and cool and makes all the difference. Frequently lift the bit in and out of the socket while cutting to keep the bit clean. Don't drill all the way through! Leave about 1/8-3/16 of an inch of the socket at the bottom so the pipe will stop when seating. This stops pressurized water from working it's way between the pipe and fitting over time. Use primer on both pipe and fitting prior to applying the glue. Use 711 GREY heavy body glue ONLY. This will fill gaps and is much stronger. It is best to wait 24 hours for the glue to fully set before pressurizing the line but this is not mandatory and you may be taking an unnecessary risk of it blowing out by doing so. This tool is guaranteed for 1000 reams but most of you will probably only use it once. I have used these tools for years and they are a godsend. Even if you only use it once, it will be worth twice the price and will save your hours of hard work. I highly recommend this tool. Good luck!

Let me start by saying I am tight with money when it come to buying a tool I only plan on using a few times in life. I could have gone with the Jones stamped metal but it doesn’t center itself and leaves the collar rough which might not seal and requires a lot of after work. I bit the bullet and bought this Reed tool. Nicely milled to tight tolerance, great cutting blade that leave the collar smooth and accepts the pipe perfetctly. I like you had a leaky 2” drain line with a exposed 45 degree collar that needed to be reglued. I was expecting that I would need to cut out the Sheetrock under the sink, remove the P-trap, cut out the sanitary Tee, feed the pipe down, cut out the bad 45 and rebuild everything. A long day of my life I really did not want to give up. Instead I bought this awesome specialized reamer and was able to attached everything from the basement without having to do any removal or demo on the first floor kitchen sink. This was used for a 2” abs kitchen drain line. I cut off the leg as close to the joint as possible with a metal bit sawzall blade because no tooling would fit. Once that was done I got my cordless drill, put it on slow, centered this puppy in the pipe hole and shaved out the pipe from the collar of the joint. I made sure to check for depth a few times to make sure I didn’t remove too much. Once that was done I sanded out some old ABS glue to smooth the joint wall so nothing would cling onto it. Glued up my pipe, waited an hour, and ran the water. NO LEAKS BABY!!! Summary: Spend the money on a quality tool that will save you a days worth of aggregation and $1000 in plumber charges.

This tool worked great and saved me hundreds of dollars in plumbing cost. I had a cracked toilet flange encased in concrete. Using this reamer, I was able to ream out the pipe connected to the sweeping 90 and replace with a new pipe and flange. The key is to take your time and let the tool do the work. After I reamed out the 90, the new pipe slid snug enough to where it could be glued and functional. I would recommend this tool and paying a little extra for the Reed brand.

I purchased a 3" pipe reaming tool with much skepticism. I had removed an old ABS toilet flange and was in a bind to either open up the ceiling below to cut out and replace the elbow and flange or try this tool. I opted to try this reaming tool and ordered it on Amazon with next day delivery. The pipe I had in front of me was beat up as I tried removing the old pipe from the existing elbow. I figured the tool would jump around and not cut well or leave the elbow with a thin weak wall. In the end the tool never jumped around, it cut out the old ABS pipe perfectly leaving plenty of meat on the old reamed elbow. The tool honestly worked flawlessly and saved the day. Needless to say I was truly impressed and would highly recommend this tool. FYI: I'm not a plumber, just an average homeowner who prefers making my own home repairs.

I almost returned this tool because it was so expensive, and I had a difficult time justifying purchasing it as a homeowner. However, after I used it to remove a piece of drain pipe from a fitting in a 30-year-old drain system, I decided to keep the darn thing for future use. The tool was much more effective than I had expected: it very cleanly cut/ground the old pipe piece from inside the fitting, saving me tons of time and potentially irreparable damage to the shower drain I was working on. For between $60 and $70, it probably won't be worth it for most home DIYers. However, as somebody who does about 90% of his own plumbing work, it's worth it for me, and I can see this as definitely a recommended tool in any professional plumber's toolbox. It works tons better than the cheapo cutters. The solid metal and cutter head alone are worth the $60-$70 pricetag -- never mind the effective design.

I had a drain pipe that cracked beside a fitting at floor level. It took less than 5 minutes to cut the pipe, ream the fitting and install the new pipe! Without this tool it would have required jack hammering up the concrete floor, installing the new pipe below grade and re-pouring new concrete. This tool is invaluable, easy to use and works extremely well.

Saved my bacon. I had a cracked 90 degree elbow in my 1.5" abs drain pipe which connected to a 4" drain pipe in my basement floor. I was able to cut the 1.5" elbow where it entered the 4" drain and Reem out the pipe so that I could connect a new 90 degree elbow. The reamer worked through the old abs easily. In fact it worked so well that I felt as though there was not much torque being placed on the connection to the 4" pipe which was a major concern of mine. If I broke the 4" pipe I would have to break up the basement concrete floor to install a new one so failure was not an option. The one thing I noted was that after I finished reaming and test fitted the new elbow I noticed there was a slight amount of play. I went ahead and glued the pieces together anyway and it's now been over a week with baths, dishwasher use and draining kitchen sinks and not a drop anywhere.

With these reamers you can save so much time. Yes the initial cost can be seem expensive but with fittings getting pricey it very soon makes sense. You will eventually own one of every size. For irrigation work the ability to not remove piping that is buried and with a cordless drill bore out the broken pipe is a big time saver.

I have other sizes of these type of tools and they all work well. I would have liked for this tool to have a shoulder on it to stop at the correct glue socket depth but overall it works well.
