Worked from day 1 for us
We bought this for our 6 year old son. We waited this long to buy it because my husband and I were very skeptical about it actually working, and his pediatrician still wasn't concerned about his bed wetting. But he started kindergarten this year and started asking us about when he gets to start doing sleepovers. Plus, he is still using a toddler bed with a waterproof mattress. We've been able to get away with him staying in this bed for long because he is smaller in size, but he needs a new bed. I didn't want to deal with changing sheets and waterproof covers on a twin sized mattress, so I finally searched the web for some more answers to help him get over this. WebMD said that the most effective way to stop bed wetting (after making sure there were no physiological or psychological factors causing the bed wetting) was by using a bed wetting alarm because it actually retrains the brain to wake up when the body needs to urinate. And this leads to the body to stop producing urine at night, which then leads to a fully being night trained. After that, I went to Amazon and started shopping bed wetting alarms and reading reviews. Thank you to all the other reviewers for your insights and success stories. We went with this bed wetting alarm because it has a larger sensor than other alarms - that's what other reviewers said and I took their word for it. It is VERY sensitive to moisture. I bought a waterproof sheet protector along with this bed wetting alarm. I can't review the sheet protector because not once has our son wet the bed using this device. It catches him so quickly that I find no evidence that he wet the bed. However, on that same note, I did find that if he was woken up by the alarm, it is best to just change his underwear because the left over moisture seems to be able to trigger the alarm in the night later, even though he didn't need to go to the bathroom again. It's a little awkward to put on and wear, but the confidence it has given him to no longer need to wear pull-ups at night pretty much made that a null point for us very early on in the process. It is easy to put on and take off. I was a little concerned that we wouldn't be able to put the sensor on correctly to sense the pee right away, but that has never been an issue.Based on other reviewers saying it could take a couple of months for it to be effective, I really expected it wouldn't be until Christmas that we would be able to say if this works or not. But we have been wonderfully surprised. It has worked for us since the very first night. We started using it in early October and by Halloween we're pretty confident we'll be able to stop using it all together very soon. In fact, I bought him a new bed shortly after Halloween. It comes with a diary to help you keep track of how many nights he has stayed dry and been able to sleep through the night without setting off the alarm. After two weeks of not setting off the alarm, they are deemed cured. I think we're to that point already, and we've only been using it a month. I really suck at sticker charts and such, so we haven't really used it. But I know that can be helpful for many kids, so it's nice it comes with it.Please feel free to ask me any questions you have. I really hope this device works for your family. It has for us, and I'm so glad we didn't wait any longer to start using this.

Disappointing, wish I'd purchased something else
I have repeatedly woken up to a wet child with an unplugged alarm...the way the sensor plugs into the Chummie is just too easy for a half-asleep kid to unplug. We started using tape to create an obstacle to unplugging it in his sleep, but would wake up to it still being unplugged. I really thought the only problem was that it was too easy to unplug, but was awake with another child in the early hours this morning, heard the alarm go off for approx. 5 seconds and then turn off...I assumed he'd unplugged it again. When a few minutes passed and he hadn't come out to use the bathroom, I went in to his room and found my son asleep. I went to wake him up, pulling back the covers and discovering that the Chummie's lights were flashing, but there was NO SOUND OR VIBRATION. The sensor was still plugged in, the alarm was just not sounding like it should. As he rolled over, all of a sudden the sound and vibration restarted. He'd wet when the alarm first went off and was soaked. I have no idea how long it's been malfunctioning like this, but no wonder my son didn't associate that it was time to wake up if it wasn't alarming consistently. While I had no issues with the tapes sticking to undergarments, I do wish that they weren't labeled the way they are. As the mom of an older child with this issue, trying to keep the use of the alarm secret was important to him and having things labeled as "bedwetting solution" in the trash doesn't help. The extremely juvenile appearance of the Chummie was another issue, nighttime enuresis effects plenty of older children who are often very embarrassed about their issue...having something that looks "babyish" doesn't help with that. I had concerns about the appearance of the Chummie when I purchased it, but went ahead based on the reviews, only to find out that it just didn't work well. I wish I'd spent some more time reading the lower starred reviews, before purchasing. One more thing, I did not like the setup for how you choose the alarm style or the volume control. It is hard to use and is poorly designed.Overall, this was a very disappointing purchase and I have gone ahead and ordered another product that I probably should have bought in the first place.
