When the carpet dried, it was obvious the stain was gone. You can then go over it with the carpet cleaning machine which should contain the deep cleaning formula. **Q: How does this differ from Bissell Stain Pretreat for Carpet & Upholstery? If they are redundant, which works better?** A: I don't think the OXYgen Boost is meant to be a pretreat. It's meant to be used in conjunction with the BISSELL 2X Pet Stain & Odor Portable Machine Formula to better remove stains. I'm still on the fence about the OXYgen Boost and don't always use it. I've never used the Pretreat so I honestly can't say. **Q: does this have fragrance or scent?** A: No fragrance to speak of **Q: Can this be used as the solution to clean carpets using Bissel carpet cleaner? What does 'pretreater' as mentioned in description mean?** A: I can't tell you what the pretreater means. Highly recommended. *by T***L on November 24, 2013* I bought a bunch of carpet stain removers at one time from Amazon - to "test" on our inherited beige berber wall-to-wall. This was - hands down - the best for old stain removal, when used straight out of the bottle on the stain. I was pretty surprised, too, because it came out looking for all the world like plain water. All the others had scents, were foamy, etc. But, the test photos showed the results. (I'll try to get ambitious and post them soon...) I also used it diluted - but not too much - in the tank of our home carpet cleaner, and it worked really well at getting an area around a stain I "over-cleaned" with another spot remover (removing the spot, but leave a so-clean area that the rest of the carpet showed its deeper, old dirtiness around it.)
