What is the thickness of the saw blade?

If I remember right, the blade is .021". Each tooth is offset .002". But check the specs on his website to be sure. I also have the veritas saw with 21tpi and this saw is much better.

It looks like the handle is riveted to the plate, which means it can't be tightened. How is the handle attached to the plate?

This is not Rob but it can be sharpened using a file. As to the life of the saw, it will depend on how often you use it and how you store it. It can last a lifetime if cared for correctly or it could last less than a year if abused and not or left out, ect. Here is more info about this saw: Rob Cosman has been woodworking for most of his life. While earning a B.Sc. in Industrial Technology/Furniture Design at Brigham Young University, he was Dr. Dale L. Nish's teaching assistant. Rob has also worked with many of the world's best craftsmen – including Alan Peters, Sam Maloof, Tage Frid, Monroe Robinson and Peter Korn. After teaching thousands of students to cut dovetails by hand, Rob saw the many problems people had when using traditional dovetails saws. With the goal of enabling woodworkers to assemble their dovetails straight from the saw, Rob designed and developed this dovetail saw to address the problems he had seen. The first two inches of the blade has super-fine, 22 TPI for ease of starting the cut, while the remainder of the blade has more aggressive 15 TPI for finishing the cut quickly. With an extra-heavy brass back and an overall weight of 22 oz., versus 13 oz. of other high-end dovetail saws, the saw itself provides the downward pressure for smooth, vibration-free cuts. Composite handles have carved finger recesses for a comfortable fit in the hand. A slight .002 inch (per side) set makes for dead-straight saw cuts and produces a .024 inch kerf. Each saw is personally tested by Rob prior to shipping. Overall saw length is 15-1/8", blade length is 10", cutting depth is 1-5/8". My husband needs the model with the "large" handle. Cosman has a large handle version. Is This it?

The one we offer is the regular size. We do not have the large size.

Don't be skeptical.

Its very unlikely that you will believe this review. I too, will often ignore the positive reviews and focus on negative ones. I get it. You're thinking how on earth do i justify a 250 hand saw? I can tell you that I was there. I saw some videos and thought it can't be true. Its not that easy to cut dovetails. How much difference can one saw have over the other? I can tell you...its a Huge difference. This saw is well made and will make you better at cutting dovetails and making straight cuts immediately. I can make dovetails now and I have next to 0 real experience at doing them. Put your skepticism aside, buy the saw. You won't regret it (even at 250). As an aside, I wish the box it comes in was made of better materials. Mine broke opening it for the first time. Guess i was too anxious opening it.

Terrific Dovetail Saw

Cosman's tools are among the best. Very high quality - it isn't inexpensive, but it is worth the money if working wood is your hobby. Made for dovetail joints, the front end of the blade has 22 teeth per inch (tpi) for the first inch or two that helps start the cut precisely, with the remainder of the blade at 19 tpi. The teeth are sharp and properly set, right out of the box. It fits comfortably in the hand and is easy to balance and cut. Rob Cosman puts a lot of effort into his stuff - and it shows.

Anyone can make perfect dovetail joints with this saw!

What!? My first ever dovetail looks that good? Using the Rob Cosman dovetail saw, even your very first attempt will impress. Progressing from simple carpentry projects to cabinetry, I'd been living in fear of the dovetail joint--thinking I'd surely fail. Then I saw Rob Cosman's video where he shows how to make the dovetail joint the simplest way imaginable! Just look at the attached photo. It's my first ever dovetail joint! I made it using Rob's technique and his amazing saw!!

Worth Every Cent

I've been a woodworker for 40 years and I've always believed that a good carpenter can do good work without paying a fortune for tools... To a point... Once a good carpenter cuts a dovetail with Cosman's saw, there is NO going back to a cheaply made Gents Saw!. The beauty of function and precise cutting possible with this baby are hard to convey: if you cut dovetails or other precise joints, buy this saw and it will be money well spent that you'll never regret.
