## Description

It's Christmas time in L.A., and there's an employee party in progress on the 30th floor of the Nakatomi Corporation building. The revelry comes to a violent end when the partygoers are taken hostage by a group of terrorists headed by Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), who plan to steal the 600 million dollars locked in Nakatomi's high-tech safe. In truth, Gruber and his henchmen are only pretending to b

Review: DIE HARD: the Blueprint for Countless Action Films - Released in 1988 DIE HARD is the movie that created an Action Movie Blueprint that has been imitated countless times (compare similarities with Under Siege, for example): Not only is the hero surprisingly tough (beyond some belief) but the amount of entertaining, bad guy characters are so well conceived you can't help but like, some, of the bad guys ... occasionally. The bad guys in this movie are led by '"terrorist" leader Hanz Gruber played to instant celebrity by Alan Rickman. Gruber's menacing right-hand-man soldier is played by Russia's own ballerina(!?) Alexander Gudonov (and those scraggy long blonde locks) while the rest of the cast features eventual tv show co-star (Clarence Gilyard -- Walker Texas Ranger) to the eventual scene stealing coke head played to a pitch perfect, just over-the-top comic perfection by Hart Bochner: "Hanz...! Boobie! I'm your white knight!" Even Hanz Gruber, himself, can't quite believe what he is seeing and hearing: "I must have missed 60 Minutes." Paul Gleason (in the process of cornering the market on smug, impudent, kiss-asses (i.e Trading Places; Breakfast Club) plays one of L.A's finest who thinks he's in charge of negotiations; and Robert Davi is 'stone cold' FBI agent Johnson: "No the other one." Bonnie Bedelia is lovely, cute, as well as button-up smart (as Holly Gennaro-McClane) all in the blink of an eye (ours or hers) as she reacts to the violent "takeover". DIE HARD('s) fights, explosions, and stunts all hold up as well as any modern Bond movie and/or even Jason Bourne (fight scenes excepted....hard to top). I didn't even mention pivotal role of flat foot "Welcome to the party pal!" cop played by Reginald VelJohnson. In another movie his dialogue with Bruce Willis would have made them partners in their own buddy-cop movie. DIE HARD strives on at least 3 different levels. Which reminds me, I just watched DIE HARD during the Holidays for the first time. "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow." I can't wait to see what they do for the New Year. Yes, even the chauffeur in DIE HARD got some good lines. Xtra feature has Director John McTiernan - on this groundbreaking action model - reminding us how innovative the camera angles and "movement" were while the lighting and, particularly, the "landscape" of the Nakatomi building was Frank Lloyd "falling water" Wright inspired. There are 10 scene specific commentaries ( scene 1, scene 13, scene 34 rooftop scene etc...) with special effects supervisor Richard Edlund that can be accessed from Special Features easily. You can also use subtitles OF Commentary (producers, writer, etc..) while watching DIE HARD that I thought informative and uniquely effective about how the book became a Bruce Willis project -- with a Frank Sinatra(!) connection! I consider this DIE HARD DISC 2013 20th Century Fox for 8 bucks and good xtras an amazing deal. No thrilling action movie has more class than this original for the Holidays (argue here if DIE HARD a Christmas movie or not) classic.
Review: A christmas classic - It’s that magical time of year again—when the snow gently falls, the stockings are hung by the chimney with care, and your friendly neighborhood New York police officer, John McClane, embarks on a delightfully festive romp through the world of Die Hard. A true yuletide classic, this film is less about the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and more about a jolly old man delivering justice, one lump of coal at a time, to a group of particularly naughty boys who clearly didn't get the memo about Santa's 'Nice List.' Picture this: McClane, clad in his festive undershirt, tiptoeing barefoot through the tinsel-laden corridors of a high-rise winter wonderland, spreading cheer and merriment with all the finesse of a reindeer on a sugar high. You can almost hear the jingle of sleigh bells as he sneaks around, delivering holiday surprises to these misguided souls who, let’s be honest, probably just needed a good gingerbread cookie and a cup of hot cocoa to turn their frowns upside down. This isn’t just your average Christmas Eve, folks—oh no. It's a heartwarming tale of one man, one building, and a whole lot of yuletide spirit. McClane doesn't just deck the halls; he dominates them. It’s practically a Christmas miracle how he turns a boring old office party into the holiday event of the century. Move over, Santa—there’s a new Kris Kringle in town, and he doesn’t need reindeer or a sleigh. He’s got an elevator. By the time the credits roll, you’ll be bursting with so much Christmas spirit, you'll feel the urge to wrap your loved ones in fairy lights and sing carols while climbing through air ducts. Die Hard is the kind of holiday film that reminds us all that the real meaning of Christmas is family, friendship, and, of course, the importance of keeping your cool under tinsel-strewn chaos. Merry McClane-mas to all, and to all a good night!
