Not recommended for heavy pounding. The design and materials used are a poor choice. The plastic handle is a tad bit on the feminine side of kitchen tools. The head is a bit too heavy. But it's a decent hammer for gentle tenderizing.

I'm a little disappointed, thought the handle was stainless too. Handle is clear plastic and pretty short, but it works okay for the task it's intended for.

it now has a lead like residue no matter how much I was it
Before using this mallet I decided to wash it. BIG MISTAKE, it now has a lead like residue no matter how much I was it. Unfortunately I can not use it. I ended up buying one at Walmart for a more reasonable price.
