My hands were killing me, this stuff saved me!
I work with a lot of solvents. I also now wash my hands and use hand sanitizers in quantities here-to-for unimaginable. I begin waking up with skin so dry it was actually painful. So I did what I usually do in such circumstances which rather than look up dodgy information on the Internet, I asked the experts. I asked every person I knew who had great skin what their secret was. I have an acquaintances who’s skin is so buttery soft. I also have a friend who is a dermatologist. She works at a world-class hospital. I specifically asked for non-prescription stuff. And while she deals with more serious problems in her work, she actually uses this for herself at home. Doctors have to wash their hands even more frequently and with stronger soap. She informed me that most doctors she knows just use nothing and end up with horribly dry skin. Go figure. But the ones that use something typically will use Vanicream. And I pretty much got the same answer from every woman that I asked, and the dermatologist. And that’s vanicream. They told me to put it on my hands before I go to bed and wear gloves to bed. This is the cream and it’s a lot thicker and stickier than the lotion which I think is more for every day use. This is more intense and I think it’s meant to go on and sit on your skin overnight. I also bought the lotion which I use several times throughout the day. That leaves a lot less resident. It’s all part of a comprehensive treatment system here. Within three days my hand started feeling not only back to normal but better than they have been since I was in my youth. They told me to put it on my hands before I go to bed and wear gloves to bed. Within three days my hand started feeling not only back to normal but better than they have been since I was in my youth. I’ve started to use it on other parts where I get really dry skin like on the elbow and knee joints and it’s been quite effective. It’s reasonably priced and it works well. I appreciate the fact that it doesn’t really have a scent and it really contains no controversial ingredients. There is another brand of a similar type that I don’t want to put the name in here because that’s usually what seems to get my reviews rejected. It was also the go to brand for many many years but they recently change the recipe and if you look up this other product, you will see that the more recent reviews have been very negative. If you’re familiar with the singer Bobby McFerrin, and go “who Ferrin”, this other product will rhyme with that. I have since passed this recommendation on the several other friends and everybody has been quite happy with the results. No more of the mineral oil chemical garbage that I used to just grab from the drugstore aisle. This is the stuff. I know it’s a little hard to demonstrate but I tried to take some close-up of my hands. The first pic I’ve been using the cream and lotion regularly, and on the second picture the other hand I stopped using it for about a day and a half to see if I can tell any difference. I certainly can but I don’t know if it’s demonstrable through photographs. But yes my hand that I stopped using the lotion on and actually got a little more red. I guess the dryness can cause subdermal inflammation. You can clearly see the difference in texture though between the cream and the lotion. I don’t know if that will be helpful to anyone but I think if you’re going to try the stuff you should get both.

I love this sh*t!
I have very dry and sensitive skin. I have been using this product at night as my last skincare routine step, story to seal in the hydration from other products and moisturize the skin, and it has been amazing. It is fragrance free, thick but goes and spreads on so very smoothly, and leaves the skin feeling not greasy, but soft and velvety. This is mainly a moisturizer, not really a hydrator, so I do use something to hydrate the skin first, then I lock everything in with this. It does not irritate my skin, nor does it cause me to have break outs. The ingredients are simple, nothing fancy, but it does what it needs to. I have nothing bad to say about this product. Which is surprising. If you’re looking for something simple that doesn’t have any active ingredients that might interfere with your current skincare, something to really just moisturize the skin, you should give this a try.

Dermatologists aren't wrong
Ask your own dermatologist: for dry sensitive skin, an ointment is more effective than a cream, and cream is better than lotion. However, many/most ointments aren't a great feel for hands or large body areas--think Vaselinein large quantities. Vanicream is an ointment that spreads and sinks in much more like a cream but works like ointment. For active eczema, highly sensitive skin, or young children, fragrance free is best, so it's unscented. Has a faint neutral smell of it's own. However, I find that I use product much more if it's fun, and dry skin needs frequent replenishing, so I repot Vanicream into lots of small containers ( easy to find now that airplanes limit the size of toiletries). Then I gussy them up with a squirt of Crabtree and Evelyn Rose lotion and stir. I've distributed them into every bathroom, work desk, handbag , and endtable I the house. ( For the end tables, I use small decorative boxes, for the rest, plain plastic travel containers.) Fun to use, smells divine, and works better than any luxurious scented cream I've ever used at a fraction of the price.

Split lips from wearing dental appliances! Vanicream saves the day!
If you’re like me and look like you’re headed into a wrestling match at bedtime then you know the struggles of of wearing retainers and mouth guards. I wear a lower retainer and an upper mouth guard at night for grinding my teeth. It is soooo much plastic and I have a tiny mouth! Needless to say this puts a lot of pressure and stretching on your lips and mouth. Every morning I would wake up with actual splits in mostly my upper lip. This would be right down the center or the sides of my mouth which is super painful. It was absolutely horrible and would take days to heal. My dermatologist finally recommended this ointment to me as I was also having burning and horrible dryness on my lips on top of wearing dental appliances. I had tried every single natural, otc or other types of lip balm/chapstick! Nothing did the job. This vanicream ointment is absolutely hands down the only thing that has complete stopped all of my splitting, cracking, burning and dry lip problem. I do have to use it every night bc of my appliances but I don’t have to re apply throughout the day like I did with all the other products. It works very fast and heals quickly. I cannot say enough good things about this product. I usually apply it after I have brushed my teeth when my lips are damp. This helps lock in the moisture even more. It takes some getting used to the texture but after that you won’t want to use anything else. I wish they made this in a chapstick type tube! I’ve been using this product for several years without any problems. I hope this helps the next person.

Good product for hair care, actually!
This product works OK on my skin, but is extremely greasy, so stains clothing. I cannot have that. I decided to try using it on my hair: after I use the same brand hair gel and dry my hair (which is extremely dry to begin with), and before applying my hairspray. This product contains no salicylates, which is a need for me, so I tried it in place of coconut-oil-type products, and discovered it works great to moisturize my hair and give it lift even though the hair is very fine and I don’t have much of it. So in the end, I use it as a hair product, and love it!

Can't praise this product enough!
My daughter has severe skin allergy to most all preservatives in skin and hair care products as well as fabrics and laundry care products. There were just a few products she could use until we discovered VANICARE products. Their whole line of skincare products are wonderful. They are a little pricey but so worth it for her. It's like a form of freedom to be able to use their body wash, creams, lotions, deodorants, and shampoo's with no worry of itching and breaking out! For the men who may see this review, my husband has very dry, itchy skin and has found their facial cleanser and moisturizing products improve his shaving.

Why Vanicream Ointment is the BEST of all.
Review of Vanicream *Moisturizing Ointment* Vs. *CeraVe Healing Ointment*, and why I prefer Vanicream for a lip balm. In my quest for the perfect lip balm, after trying many chapsticks and natural alternatives like oils, butters and waxes, I first started using CeraVe ointment and found it OK until I decided to try Vanicream ointment (formerly called Vaniply Ointment). Went back to CeraVe to give it a second chance then came back to Vanicream for good. This back and forth really helped me understand the difference in performance of both on my lips. Vanicream ointment is dimethicone based and is less oily than CeraVe ointment which is petrolatum and mineral oil based. That's why dimethicone products can claim "oil free" on the package while petrolatum or mineral oil products cannot. Since petrolatum and mineral oil based oitments like CeraVe and Aquaphor tend to have an oilier feel, it will also have more of a sheen to it. Being oilier, it disappears from the skin of the lips much faster, leaving the lips feeling dry again. That is when Vanicream ointment comes to the rescue. It is thicker, more siliconey and creamy, it adheres to the lips much better and stays on for a much longer time. I'm often kissing my little children and I really notice the difference in stay-ability and moisturizing performance of both, and can say that Vanicream ointment wins by far in moisturization properties. None are sticky. I thought the ceramides and hyaluronic acid in CeraVe ointment would give it more of an advantage over Vanicream ointment's short list of ingredients, but it really doesn't come close to how well Vanicream works. Give Vanicream ointment a try and I'm sure you'll find your new lip care favorite. (PS: I got nothing for my review; this simply comes from my satisfaction with the product) EDIT: Over 2 years have passed and I still have some left in my tub, it lasts a long time! I've been using it every day on my lips and on my face, on top of my cheap fragrance-free lotion, at night for extra moisture. Still love it!

Eczema Staple
A doctor recommended this during an eczema flare-up several years ago after I'd tried every other lotion and had been relying on steroid creams for most of my flare-ups. This stuff is a miracle-worker. It prevents/treats eczema about as well as the steroid creams and better than any OTC lotion I've ever tried (which often tend to make things worse due to fragrance, additives, etc.). I've honestly started to wonder if it secretly has steroids in it or some other magical ingredient. I've been using it for about 6 years and a little goes a very long way for me. I use a tiny bit mostly on the insides of my elbows/knees every time I shower and sometimes multiple times a day in the winter. I was getting by with one of these 2.5 oz tubes for a while but when I moved to a much drier climate I got one of the larger tubs. I actually prefer the tubes because trying to get the stuff out of the tub is a pain - I use a little spreader knife that I keep next to the tub on my bedside stand, but it's messy. With the tube you just squeeze out what you need and it's much easier, faster, and more sanitary. I don't know what I'd do if they stopped making this. I've also recommended it to friends with eczema and they've also had great results. Highly recommended!
