(Scholastic Reader, Level 1) Review: Love, Love, Love this book! - I grew up reading this book and I wanted to get a copy for my kid. It really helps with teaching manners and being polite! Review: Fantastic book for introducing manners or reinforcing them - My son loves books, he's 3 and can't quite read yet but he loves to look at the pictures and be read to. This book is short sweet and to the point. I love little Alfie and my son does too. The book is written in a simple enough format with cute, captivating illustrations that my son and 18month daughter both understand its moral and can learn how to get things they want. For such a small book with such few words per page you feel the emotion Alfie and his mom feel in the last page when Alfie is broken down and sad that he doesn't know how to ask for a cookie in the mannerly way, and next we too felt elated when Alfie learns with moms help how to ask for a cookie. I love this simple and sweet book and would buy it over and over again if needed. Buy this book, if you want to teach your child manners this is one of the better ones I've found. You don't need to spend a lot to find a great exemplar book.

Great Book, Great Story
This may sound strange but I bought this book for a baby shower and my 4 yr old granddaughter saw it before the shower date and wanted me to read it to her. I did and she loved the story and now I have to order her one. This book teaches little ones how to ask for things. Now I hear my granddaughter telling hers dolls how to ask for things. I love how good books can teach good things.

BEST Easy Reader!!!
BEST easy reader!!! My family LOVES this book!!! It has all the marks of a great, “read it again and again” story, which is a super rare statement for an easy ready book of this level. The character and his motivation & persistence to rise to the challenge his mother sets before him (to think of a better way to get a cookie); the awesome nonverbals in the art; the subtle belly-laugh-every-time humor; and the tender affection between mom and child are just perfect. This is such a great book for an early reader to own because it’s such a rewarding story to read alone, read aloud to others, and read over and over without losing its specialness.

Good for Learning Manners
Super adorable illustrations accompany this imaginative story about a little alligator that wants a cookie. Little Alfie tries everything to get a cookie, but his mom keeps saying no. Finally, with a little help from mom, he figures out that he needs to say please. The best part about this story were the illustrations. They were absolutely fantastic, and perfect for the age level. The word choices were simple and the text was nice and large to make identifying letters and words easier for beginning readers. There were just a few words to each page, making it a nice length and not too intimidating for a child that is just learning to read. Sometimes I feel like children's books get a little too preachy and try to teach a lesson too often. Most of the time when my kids or I read a book, it is simply for entertainment. However, the clever ways that Alphie comes up with to get a cookie balance out the "lesson" of the book so that it doesn't come off as overly preachy.

Brilliant!!
I got a level one reading book for my 5 year old granddaughter that’s in Pre-K, (she has a late birthday). Halfway through the book she’s cheering, “I’m reading!”. Of course I’m sold, and I bought three more today. Not only will these books help your little one start reading, they are also fun books that keep a young child engaged. Each page is brightly colored and illustrated with short sentences. There are many common sight words and repeated words that will help build a child’s confidence. Definitely a recommended beginner readers book.

... half months ago and it's still one of her favorite books to read
We began reading this book to our daughter about two and a half months ago and it's still one of her favorite books to read. She turns 2 in a couple of days, she can't read quite yet but it's such a cute and simple book that she remembers the last couple of pages and read them to me. This book has helped in our efforts to teach our baby about please and thank you. She's still a baby/almost toddler so of course sometimes she just shouts and screams what she wants but with a certain look or simply asking her, "excuse me?" she quietly asks again for what she wants and follows with a please. I believe following up with this book at night as a reminder helped, it also helps that she thoroughly enjoys books, they can be a hit or miss with certain kids but for us this one was a total hit and at such a good price!!
