FAST Draw Assisted Opening EDC Folding Pocket Knife, 3" Plain Edge Blade

This knife is my Go-To! I carry it every day and have purchased it multiple times. (TSA got two of them as I keep forgetting to leave it at home before going to the airport!) I love the assisted opening and the thumb safety. Cheap enough to actually USE; cutting boxes, zip ties, rope or whatever. Not some $300 trophy knife that your afraid to abuse. I've had the plain edge and the serrated; I prefer the plain edge. I'm not fast-roping behind enemy lines to take out phantom bad guys in the dead of night; I just need a knife that works, works well and that I can occasionally abuse. Packing tape from cutting open packages tends to get all gummed up on the serrated edge version, though it is easier to cut things like rope or zip ties with the serrations. Gerber is a name I trust. This knife has never let me down and the price point is a solid value!

This knife is great, but doesn't do EVERYTHING it is supposed to, it looks like you should be able to open it with a flick of your index finger (like the joker knife), but the metal ridge is BELOW the plastic case, so you can basically only open it with your thumb, and using leverage against the knife case, it is a very nice knife, and once you get the "trick" down opening it is very easy, I like the thumb "safety" it is very easy to use, and the knife opens very quickly, but the opening layout could use a makeover (I'm tempted to file out the top of the knife so that I can open it with a flick of my index finger, a nice knife overall.

This Gerber "Fast Draw" knife is replacing my lost Gerber "EZ Out" knife that I carried for almost 15 years, so it has a lot to live up to. While Amazon usually has the best prices (about 2/3 cheaper), I went to a big box "outfitter" store to try out some different models since knifes are tools that you really have to hold to see if they are "right" for you. Here are my observations: Pros: + Easy to open one handed, the spring assist is very helpful + Positive lock, working to keep it closed and open, which is useful for keeping all of your fingers attached + Sharp blade right out of the package and it holds an edge nicely + Sturdy belt clip Cons: - Somewhat "cheesy" looking grip, I almost passed it up without trying it out because it looked cheap to me - Mechanism makes a grinding sound when the blade is closed, but I'm hoping that it is just a wearing in issue While I doubt this knife will last as long as my last Gerber, it is a very good tool for daily use in our small shop. Excellent Quality knife, play with it for a few days to get the hang of its safety lock feature, this knife will last a long time, hold a sharp edge to!

Bought as a replacement of they same knife I've had for a number of years. First noticed the blade took more effort to flip open with the thumb stud. Fixed that somewhat by backing out the side screws slightly, still a little gritty. Gerber has added a red dot to the thumb slide release, that slide is also gritty and doesn't always go fully into position requiring you to confirm it has slid into place. Definitely not as smoothly operating as my last Gerber knife just like it, was surprised at the difference in quality.

This is my third one. One was stolen, then replaced. Now I have my main and a spare. Durable, holds a great edge. Fast draw and release and a great pocket clip. I've been carrying it every day s for 5 years. No signs of wear.
