Review: Charles Martin, you are awesome! - When Crickets Cry was the 6th book by Charles Martin that I have read. The first was Mountain Between Us, which I purchased in Jan. of this year. I am an avid mystery/horror (King/Koontz) reader and picked up my first Charles Martin book for a change of pace. I finished my 7th book of his last week. He is an awesome author!! He writes books with such detail you think he might actually have lived the life he is writing about. When Crickets Cry hit home for me so much because 2 years ago we found out that my daughter has the same medical problem that was addressed in the book. She was 32 years old and had given birth to her second child the day before we found out about her problem. Some of what Mr. Martin wrote in the book I already knew from what the Doctors told us about her, but he went into so much more information about the condiction. He made me realise just how close we came to loosing her and how lucky we are the Doctors saved her life. Because of the way he writes about his characters, he makes a person feel they are living in the books he writes. Loving, laughing, crying and struggling right along with his charactors. Mr. Martin knows how to put a book together to make us really think of how we would react if we were to be put in the position of his characters. I get the feeling from his books that he really cares about his characters and his readers. He writes a story with feeling, details and wraps it all up very neatly in the end. I have warned the people that I rave to about Mr. Martin's books to be prepared to cry, to not want to put it down until the end and to want more. So Mr. Martin, could you please write faster? My son and his wife got me a Kindle for Christmas and desertcart makes it so easy to buy and load your books. I already have your last one, Thunder and Rain, and hopefully you will have finished writing a new one by the time I am finished with the books of yours that I haven't read yet. You are awesome. Charles Martin, you are awesome!

The time jumps were a little confusing at first but it all came together and had a beautiful ending. Great book!

I bought this as a audio book and I couldn't stop listening. The narrator kept my attention and was very easy to understand. It was a tear jerker but a very good book.

Wow!
One of my favorite books -ever! I learned so much about the heart, medically and emotionally as one of God’s greatest life-giving gifts. After I finished the book, I went back and re-read the last two chapters. This book was so well written. I loved the quotes, Annie’s sweet, heart and all the characters just drew you in. Thank you, Charles Martin, for taking me on this wonderful journey! This is such a touching story. Highly recommended!!

Excellent Read with a little patience for the drama!
Definitely a page turner, beautiful setting, complex characters and plenty of redemption for everyone! A good wholesome book that tells the story of people dealing with terrible loss and trying life circumstances. It might help answer why bad things happen to good people for some. Gods hand and his grace are well intertwined with our main characters! My only grievance was the back story of Reese. He may have been described by Trump describing himself! He was the best at everything! The world’s best heart surgeon, rowing champion, best boat refurbisher, best carpenter, best McGiver! Caries a flashlight, medical kit, survival knife, all on his belt? Really? But besides the fact this perfect person could never exist it was a great read! I recommend it with an open mind that is…

Amazing story by an amazingly good author.
This is a wonderful book which I can heartily recommend to you. I also recommend this author who I love so much that I pay full cover price for his books as soon as they are published.

A story about moral obligations and responsibility.
If you like good literature then this book is for you. Charles Martin has the ability to use the written word to describe a person's inner feelings and fears. The main character has suffered a traumatic experience and has retreated and rejected his former life and friends. His emotional climb back to his former self is beautifully described. We begin to understand his dilemma and his inner demons. His writing reminds me of the style of James Lee Burke. Whereas the latter describes crimes and their consequences, the former describes personal failures and how they affect, not only your own, but other people who are close to you.

Amazing!!!
Absolutely spellbinding. Wonderfully emotional in all the right ways! Now my favourite book. Will be recommending it to people that may not believe in hope, but will after this book. Magical.

Everyone who loves a really good book must read this one. Its so beautifully written and so moving. Its a long timesince i have been unable to continue because I could not see through the tears. Thank you Charles Martin.

Heart felt story!
A beautifully written book and heartfelt story. The characters are engaging and the theme is interwoven so well. My only criticism is The medical descriptions were even a bit too much for me with some knowledge. But overall, recommended.
