Good resource to check out!
Having a few reservations about using The Action Bible with younger kids, I was happy to take a look. Green Egg Media was kind enough to send me a set to review and I have to say, they are some nice looking books! They are illustrated in a Japanese-style animation with heads that are a little too big for the bodies. Kids seem to love this style (including my own 4 year old daughter) and the colors are vibrant and clear. Here's a few things I noticed.1) Cast of CharactersI love the "cast of characters" you find in the opening pages of the book. Sometimes it's tough to keep everyone straight in these stories and it's nice to have a quick summary of all the important people right off the bat.2) That's a Little IntenseEven though this is a series geared towards younger, there's no lacking in intensity when it comes to emotions. In one picture, King Achish's eyes are blazing with fire and he has covered his companion's face in spit. Gross. And intense.3) No BloodYou see Saul being stabbed, but no blood. I know it's not realistic, but I like things better this way. You still see him hurt, and get the gist of the story without all the gore.4) Little Sketchy on the DetailsI'm not a super Bible scholar, but I doubt Bathsheeba had an entire lake on top of her house as is pictured in this book. A small detail, but there are a few other occasions where I think the authors/illustrators could have stuck a little closer to Scripture. All in all, another great resource to add to the Children's Ministry bookshelf! And for only $12 a volume, it is certainly worth the investment.
