Maddie on Things: A Super Serious Project About Dogs and Physics

What a clever premise for a dog book. Maddie is an amazing rescue dog. The situations she was in were funny, clever, entertaining and a joy.What bothered me was the chronology. I guess I expected the days to move across the calendar as Theron and Maddie moved across the country. It made sense to me. I guess it didn't make sense to Theron.Then we got to California the end of May. Then to New York three days later, the back to California three days after that. Needless to say, I want that truck he's driving or access to the teleporter he found.Other than the chronology, which I found somewhat disconcerting, this book is a hoot. It's simply a delight to see this beautiful dog in so many oddball places and pull it off. This book will bring a smile, or several, to your face.

I must credit my daughter for showing me "thiswildidea" on Instagram!! She caused me to become an addict!! To take a step outside of your everyday, familiar life such as Theron has done is a great leap of faith. He shares with us a humble and simplistic perspective on life by bring us all on his journey. Opening up about himself and what events in his life propelled him to take a chance on what would make him happy in life and to have a best friend like Maddie by his side. The roads traveled and moments shared in his book, "Maddie On Things", shows us how diverse and caring people can be. Maddie's trust, skill, endurance and desire to please Theron shows in each photo. By Theron making the world aware of the need to adopt homeless animals and those individuals who have chosen to make a loving pet part of their lives no matter the circumstances should be an eye opener to anybody that takes the time to enjoy this great book.I thank you, Theron, for being selfless in your journey, visiting a local bookstore and giving us the chance to meet you and Maddie was a delight!!

I had to do a presentation on a photographer for my college photography class and I bought this book to use as a prop for my report on Theron. The book seems well-bound and includes a 3 page introduction with a single photo on each page thereafter. Under each photo, the City/State, and Month/Day/Year taken are displayed. I agree with other customers that it would be nice to have some more information on each photo. I know there is (or was) a video of Theron speaking at Google on YouTube and he explains some of these photos, but I would like that written in the book! One thing to note; a lot of photos from the book are not easy to find online, and having the book is worth a lot more than just viewing them online, especially since the book better supports the photographer! The actual dimensions of the book are 8.25”x7.25”x0.75” The book is 159 pages with about 149 pictures, and one in the 3-page introduction. I hope you find my reviews helpful!

Get lost in this great book about the adventures of a young man and his beautiful red tick, Maddie! Theron did what we all wish we could do: escape the corporate world and try to find a place in the world that makes sense, is a good fit, and have a lot of fun along the way! I definitely recommend this book to any dog lover!! The pictures are gorgeous and amazingly well thought out & UNIQUE!! He's really captured what hounds like to do and that is be "on" things (especially up high). Believe me, Maddie would not have done these things if she didn't want to!!! If they're not climbing (or playing), they're either eating or sleeping!! Anyway, buy the book, you won't regret it!! Most of his artwork is for sale as well! ♥

I LOVE this book! I saw it in a small gift shop while on a weekend get-away, and it seemed to capture the spirit of 'all things unique and entertaining', and purchased it when I got back home. I think it is truly a special piece of work and a wonderful way to document an amazing roadtrip that the author took with his sweet (and well behaved) dog, Maddie. The photos are very unique and great quality. While I intended for this book to be a 'coffee table book' for guests to enjoy, it has quickly been taken over by my 5 year old son and added to his library. He laughs uncontrollably at the places that Maddie ends up. (FYI: This is primarliy a picture book, with only a few small blurbs about back stories and locations.)

I purchased this book years ago when it first came out. Now I gift it to dog living friends. I love everything about it - the extraordinary photography , the implicit relationship between Maddie and her photographer , and even the intro is a must read. I'm only sorry that it isn't impeccably printed on the most magnificent paper money can buy... but then it wouldn't be the bargain price that it is ! And this review is coming from a noteworthy animal photographer :)

I discovered Maddie several years ago on-line. Like many people I'm sure, at first I thought the pictures were photo shopped. Time taught me they weren't as I learned the story behind the pictures. Maddy is a rescue dog who proved to be amazing patient and put up with the various poses her person set up. What I love about the pictures are Maddie's expressions. Many are just Zen like, in while in others she seems to get the joke. My favorites are where she appears to be showing pity for her silly human. I may be a bit biased I have a rescue Foxhound who has different coloring than Maddie but their faces are the same and I've seen those looks. If you're an animal lover you will get a real kick out of this book.

A little while back, Theron Humphrey decided to take a trip across all fifty staes of the US in a truck. There was him and, well, Maddie. Maddie is a coonhound and a very relaxed one at that. Pretty much anywhere she was placed she would patiently stay there while Theron took her picture. So the title of this book is exactly accurate - it's a collection of pictures of Maddie - on things.She's on vehicles, tractors, on tyres, mailboxes, doors, pretty much anything. She's also photogenic.As a something that will lift your spirits out of the humdrum of normal life, I recommend it!

Anyone who is feeling a bit low and/or loves dogs, then this is the book for you. What a totally laid back dog, who obviouslytrusts her owner implicitly and is quite happy to be posed anywhere. Also a big thank you to the people who agreed to let Maddie pose in some unique places. The handbag display for instance. Amazing scenery, a beautiful dog and wonderful memories for her owner. This is a lovely book. Open at any page for a guaranteed smile and ask yourself " how did he get her up there?"

I had a flick through before wrapping the book up and the pictures were charming and interesting with just the right amount of backstory. I bought this as a gift for someone who loves travelling and dogs so they thoroughly enjoy flicking through the book. An excellent addition to anyone's collection!

Just a lovely little book. Saw some photos of Maddie elsewhere on the internet, which is why I decided to buy this, and I wasn't disappointed. It's amazing how you can love a book of random photos of a lovely dog standing on random things!

This is a clever book - I bought it for a friend in Australia because I know she would love it but the postage was too much as it is a really heavy book so I have unashamedly kept it and love it.
