Great product!
This is a great enclosure solution. 2 piece construction and a very tight fit. Kind of expected this to attach to the wheel well by the roll bar somewhere, but it just slips under the lip on the back of the tub and attaches to the vertical plate on the back. Very secure, but the top plate could be make more secure with an attachment on the sides. You won't be able to easily fold and tumble the Rear seat after installing this. It is possible, but it's going to be a serious PITA. You cannot fold the seat down until you have raised it 20-30 degrees first. Putting the seat into place requires some force, but it will go into place. Remember not to leave the seat folded when leaning it back into place.I also recommend putting 2 or 3 washers under the middle seat belt plate to raise the vertical plate center hole in line with the carpet. This way you don't bend the metal where it attaches. My 97 TJ with the fold and tumble seat didn't have the outer two bolts in the tub so I had to drill my own. 2 small holes in the carpet eliminated the need for washers on the sides. It could also use a third bolt in the middle of the two plate where they attach at the top. The wing nuts on both sides are secure enough, but a third one in the middle would make it much more secure. All this said, I am very pleased with this purchase. One of the best investments I've made for the TJ thus far. If you're looking for secure truck space without having to drill holes or add a heavy drawer/trunk/case to your jeep, don't hesitate to pull the trigger on this setup. You won't be disappointed.

Very nice design
I installed this in a 99 TJ and couldn’t be happier. The Install is extremely easy. The only attachment point on a 99 TJ is the center seatbelt buckle bolt. I haven’t driven the jeep since the install but will report back if there is any rattling. If it does I will either drill 2 holes and bolt it tight. If not I may just isolate it from the jeep with some thin rubber or something. Some reviewers complained about accessing the lever to tilt the rear seat. It’s really not that bad if you reach for it from the back seat but I wanted to be able to access it without climbing into the jeep so I drilled a hole in the lever, learned to braid parachord on YouTube and made a cobraknot pull tab. It is extremely easy to tumble the rear seat with this modification. The only con is that the unit would need to be removed if you want to load large items in the back. Not a big deal to me.Tuffy makes great products. I have this unit, an underseat box, 2 over the rear wheel well units and have a color matched center council on the way for my Sahara and all of them are keyed the same. If you want to have 1 key for multiple units buying from Tuffy direct is required. With all of these and 2 Gobi lock boxes on top of my Gobi roof rack I am able to carry all of my recovery gear, Lots of tools and still have room for other things in the trunk.100% satisfied.

Much needed secured storage area in the Wrangler TJ
Had initially purchased a Bestop Instatrunk not realizing how much it cut into the available "trunk" space in the TJ. Returned that and purchased the Tuffy tailgate security enclosure. Initially, I didn't think it fit as I couldn't get the bolt openings to line up with the bolt holes in the floor. Once I realized I was trying to line them up with the further holes instead of the near holes, installation was a snap. Realistically a 10 min installation in our 2003 TJ with the fold & tumble rear seat. I did remove the seat belt bolts on the side of the tub to ease the installation. Ours used a T-40 torx bit on an impact driver made removal & install of the 5 bolts a breeze. Make sure you re-torque the bolts to the appropriate ft-lbs after install. The enclosed storage space is much larger than the Insta-trunk , and the one-piece hinged design is much sturdier than the flimsy 4 pieces of the Insta-trunk.Make sure you order the correct version for your year Wrangler.

Love it. More space than the instatrunk
Love it. More space than the instatrunk. However, know a few things going in. The deck sits higher, so your folded soft top will as well. If you have the rear seat with the latch on the bottom left, there's no cut out so it will take some work to get to it. Also, the metal portion of the seat WILL scrape this up. It sits flush with the back seat (on regular tj) so bedlining it probably isn't an option.

fits well
I had no trouble at all with the fit on this product. unlike some others, my seat will fold and tumble and returns to upright/locked position very easily. This may be because mine is a 2006 Wrangler and the seat release is on the top of the seat. I also had no issues with drilling, my TJ had seat brackets where the outside 2 bolts go and the center seatbelt bracket where the center bolt goes so it only took me 20 minutes with the right sized torx driver to remove and reinstall the bolts. I did not use washers as spacers like some others did to account for the height of the carpet. I considered this but when I torqued the bolts down, the amount of deflection in the bottom lip off the Tuffy enclosure was minimal and not causing and significant bend or an crease in the metal. it mostly compressed the carpet underneath it. The weather stripping provided fits snugly against the rear tailgate and against the roll bars. I feel very secure using this when my Jeep is unlocked or the top is off.Note: this model, unlike a later version, cannot be removed without removing the seat bracket and seat belt bracket bolts so is not a quick in/out device. I think there is a later version that allows for removal without tools.
