Great small suitcase!!
It passes TSA regulations for carry on but it also is tough enough to go under the plane with the luggage. Effortlessly moves along. Can be used for planes or a weekend away. Nice rugged exterior is not only cool looking but very scratchy and damage proof. Great value for the money. Many other charge more for a lesser quality. Has ability to expand.9

Overall Great Product
As allot of reviewers have already notated, this luggage reeks of a chemical smell. It actually smells of moth balls. Prior to my trip I placed it in a separate room and let it air out for several weeks. Closer to the trip I used a box of baking soda to "suck up" some of the odor. On my trip I included a dryer sheet along with my belongings and didn't have a problem with my clothes smelling. After about three weeks it still has a slight smell of moth balls. If this is an odor you can not stomach, I would just walk away now. I don't take umbridge with it as I took the above precautions, but it did reflect in me giving it one less star. Now, as far as the over quality and durability of the item,it works fantastic. I fly out of a smaller airport since I'm in the Midwest flyover part of the country, thus, smaller airplanes. Anyone who has ever flown on a Canadian Regional Jet knows that the overhead compartments are tighter than tight. I had a full bag (although I did not need to use the expansion zipper) and was able to squeeze it into the overhead bin like a glove. The flight attendant even doubted that it would work and once I was able to maneuver it in, some applause broke out in the cabin. I normally used a backpack on my previous journeys, I was able to get double the amount of clothes and belongings in this bag. I'm an obese guy, so my clothes are double the size of a normal person, I was able to get a weeks worth of clothes, my hygiene kit, a pair of sandals, and a set of shoes in there comfortably. I actually had additional room. The luggage is extremely lightweight and rolls around smoothly on smooth surfaces. The only issue I have with the construction is the handle feels a little flimsy once it's extended all the way (it's of the telescoping variety). If you are a shorter individual, this won't be an issue as you won't need to extend it all the way, but if you're over 5 ft 10 in, then you'll need to telescope the handle. As long as you're pulling it from behind, there shouldn't be an issue, but if you tweak or twist the handle more than just enough pressure will probably break the thing.Another bonus I was not expecting was a luggage lock is included. The zippers work smoothly.[UPDATE: I have had this carry on for an entire decade now! I've bumped the rating up to 5 stars because of its resilience and durability. I've flown around the world to several countries several times with it (and it has the scars to prove it) and it has not failed me once. I'm happy to report the initial moth ball smell dissipated after the first year. Unfortunately, the last year or so the wheels are starting to become a little wonky with age. I'm assuming the wheel bearings are probably going bad, but with as much use as I've received from the old workhorse, that's to be expected. I absolutely love the old gal, we have so many memories together across several continents. The day those wheel bearings finally give out will be a very sad day for me.]

Excellent choice
Good size. It fits perfectly in the overhead compartment. Lightweight. Looks geat. Zippers open and close softly and wheels glide smoothly. Great purchase

Good value for price paid
I was looking for specifically: a hardside, spinner castered, expandible, compliant carry-on. It needed to have pads on its hinge side so that if can stand on it side (say in a bus or train baggage shelf), and the relevant handles on two sides, in addition to the extendable handle. Robustness/durability/quality of build and materials is of course an important factor, but hard to assess when shopping online. The look of it is important to me, and I was looking for some think with a generally orthagonal design (as opposed to having any diagonal or wavy design features), color needed to be a solid color, needed to have textured or matte surface, as opposed to smooth and shiny. The interior fabric lining needed to have little to no pattern. It of needed to maximize interior storage space while still respect the maximum overal dimension permitted by most airlines for carry-on. The Rockland 'Melbourne' generally meets this criteria, with the following caveats: I would say durability is TBD, from what I can tell, not having travelled yet with this, expecially by plane, I think this bag feels a little flimsey; but for the low price I paid, still good value. I predict it wont do particularly well if rough handled, say, if checked at the counter of an airline. As long as it stays in my posession, I believe it will do okay. Similarly, I think interior fabric lining feel a little on the flimsey side (stitching as well as the textile itself), and so I think I need to be a little careful, but I think it will be okay. Again, given the price I paid, I think still good value, and as such, I still rate it 4 stars out of 5. I will say that, when I have looked even a name branded carry-ons at stores such as TJmax or its sister chains, I have not been terribly impressed with their builds either, especially considering their premiums. i would need to re-visit a store now to definitively say whether or not their builds are better than this Rockland. Finally, as noted by others, the dimensions may be inaccurately reported on the website. Strictly speaking, the maximum dimensions (including protusions, of the example I have here) are 22.375" high (floor to top of handle), 14.75" wide (side handle to side pad at the wider base of the bag - the bag flairs slightly at the base) and 9.75" deep (including a pad on one face). If one applies a tape measure quickly or casually to the bag (as one one likely and normally does), the 'main' portions of the bag (proper) will fall into 21.5" tall (not including handle) x 13.5" wide (not including pads) x 9.5" deep (it fairly easy to squeeze the depth down to 9", however). Each airline has their own standards, and I would also say that each airline employee will apply the rules differently. I expect the bag will (usually) pass for carry-on, but we'll see.

I genuinely adore my compact luggage. It is of excellent quality and the ideal size for carry-on. I appreciate how it expands, allowing me to pack more belongings. Additionally, it is scratch-resistant, rolls effortlessly, and has a pleasing color. Due to its adaptability and comfort, I highly recommend this luggage for purchase.

Congrats on your retirement faithful carryon
This carryon deserves a review. I’ve had it for 5 years and am just now retiring it….but definitely keeping as a backup. It’s seen 20 states and two other countries. Its now scuffed, the inside compression straps are stretched, the handle is a little janky and temperamental, and the piece of metal you use to open and zip the zipper on the inside broke off and is now replaced with a Bobby pin BUT WOW HOW THIS <$50 carryon has held up!It holds a lot…only have used a checked bag twice in the last five years. At 7ish pounds it’s relatively lightweight compared to popular carryons out there. Loved the champagne color.Well done rockland, enjoy your retirement. You’ve been a faithful, hard working carryon for the last 5 years.

I measured it at my airport!
I think this suitcase should be good to go as a WestJet carryon if you do not expand the case. I did have a bit of an issue getting it all the way down but I think that was due to the sort of pad on the back (circled in 3rd pic) and the plastic packaging getting caught (I was keeping the case protected in case I had to return it). This is definitely a "bring at your own risk" but it's seems within the realm of reasonable to me. 🤷🏻♀️ The suitcase itself is as adorable as it is in all the pictures. The wheels spin freely and the handle fully extends to my hip (I'm 5'8") making it comfortable for adults to use. All the handles, zippers, etc, are plastic so it probably won't last for ages but it was only $100 so 🤷🏻♀️
