Side spikes are thin hollow tubes that screw in and snap off easily.
Not very useful for self defense. The side spikes screw in (not terrible) but it turns out they are made of hollow aluminum tubes, like thin straws. Why would they do that? To save a gram of aluminum? I tried punch a board thinking it was durable and noticed it immediately bent. I pushed it a bit more to straighten and it snapped off in my fingers leaving the threads inside. Not very useful in an emergency and may actually endanger you when it fails. Flimsy is the tldr.

Broke first day.
The two small spike that screw into the larger spike use a hollow chambered section to screw into the holes, making them very fragile. Mine broke within 24 hours of sitting on my keychain on my hip. It is still usable as a single spike, which is why it is getting 2 stars still. I am returning for a refund, however.

a cheap, safe, compact, & inconspicuous way to feel safe
I know it's not much, but it makes me feel a little bit safer. It's nice that it's so cheap too. I went to the Statue of Liberty & security took it away from me because of its glass breaking potential & I was really bummed out but I knew that getting a replacement would be fast & cheap. It's also nice because it doesn't really look like a weapon so when you're walking around with it someone won't assume you're looking for a fight. I don't keep it on my key ring because I find it too bulky- I just put it in my front pocket & it fits nicely.

Would not stay together
I was so excited when this arrived- it feels so strong in your hand! I felt like I could swing this behind me and knock someone out! It was easy to reach for and easy to keep in my hand should someone attack me. The only problem was both sticks would fall out constantly. They screw in to the base, and I would constantly find them in the bottom of my purse or on the ground. No matter how tightly I would screw them back into it, they always fell out. Eventually I had to remove it from my keys because I could no longer depend on it to protect me.

Meh. It’s... okay I ‘spose
It’s okay. A bit lighter than I would like. Feels hollow but it’s peobably solid. Looks solid when looking at the key ring hole up close. It’ll do the job if need be; however, I bought this as more than just a self defense tool. I bought it as something to fiddle with when feeling antsy but the weight and finish isn’t great. I guess that fiddling isn’t it’s purpose so I shouldn’t critique it based on that; however, if you’re going to judge it based on looks and feel, then it’s a three star item.

Okay
It was great when I first got it but after 2 months or so it started to fall apart. I would twist it back in and try to glue it, etc and it just kept falling apart. If you are using it for self-defense, then just opt to get something more durable.

Great for men & women
This is really a great self-defense tool! No training needed, you can use your keys to swing the Kubaton or the Kubaton to swing the keys. Developed by one of the world's greatest martial artist's Tak Kubota.

Light weight, machining is poor
Very light weight (this is a plus), however the machining on ours was very poor. Several areas could have been sanded and they were not, and then painted over. QA control could be improved. Overall you get what you pay for.
