LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT
I've had it for over a month now. I use it for work, school, and gaming. It upgraded to Windows 10 with no problems and runs smooth. There were a few times that after waking it from hibernation, I was greeted with a garbled screen, but that was fixed with a hard reset--many bugs left in Windows 10 I suppose. Well if you have read this far, might as well give you the full review. I will update as necessary with any pertinent developments as my experience with this new baby continues. The specs in this case is well balanced with a humble amount of RAM/HD/VRAM/Ports and CPU power. I have never been the type to have the latest and the greatest mainly do to the lack of testing by real world applications from real world users. This CPU is powerful enough to handle whatever you through at it and still have plenty left over to laugh at your face. I will probably never actively use all 24GB of RAM. 4USB 3.0 Ports is just enough to satisfy the majority of the people, including myself. I am looking forward to testing out the Thunderbolt connector that is also a mini display port. I can't find anywhere that states what Thunderbolt version it is but I am guessing it is the first generation. The multimedia card reader will ultimately come in handy from time to time. I was an early adopter of the high capacity SD cards though. It was around $169 for a 128GB stick which you can find for half the cost today. Many people have complained that the storage drive partitions are a bit excessive, but that problem can be easily remedied with a disk space management software of your choice.Booting up from the off state is blistering fast. Any applications or games you decide to place on the solid state partitions will load extremely fast while the 7200RPM partitions will not lag very far behind. For programs you plan on using regularly, it is pretty clear where you should place them. For ones accessed a few times a week or less, the 1TB storage drive will server you perfectly. Pictures and videos can go on the 7200RPM drive as well.I do not foresee myself doing any upgrade to this laptop at all as it is perfect in it's current state, hardware-wise. If you do plan on using it on your lap but wish to use a mouse with it as well, invest in a quality portable laptop table. Otherwise, go cheap like me and just use the big fancy box it came in for the time being while you build your own mini table to your specifications. Most of the time, you'll be using it at a regular table of some form or fashion anyways.Keeping this baby clean has been not too daunting. I recommend a medium size paint brush with soft soft bristles to brush off any dust particles. A minivac will be nice to use over the keyboard from time to time, paying close attention to not scratch or damage any keys. Keep in mind that the underside as well as the keyboard are the "intake" for your cooling fans.I'll wrap things up with a list of things I like and dislike about this laptop:Pros-Works like a workhorse but plays like a FerrariCan take a beating--long hours of hard core gamingRuns multiple apps with no issuesRuns cool and quiet, no matter whatBuild quality is unquestionably highSexy design, ending with fierce red exhaust finsKeyboard is fantastic! Sturdy, good travel and layout (aside from a few keys, noted in the cons section)The screen rocks! Bright with almost perfect viewing angles even when not looking at it directlySound is clear, can fill a room, and the base is modestG-SYNC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Smooth as butter gamingCons:Eject button for optical drive is easily pressed on accident when handling the laptop on it's sidesBattery life (but that is expected with a laptop of this magnitude)Shadowplay quick launch button is too close to the escape buttonTo sum it all up, this laptop puts my desktop to shame. Albeit, my desktop is a 2009 ASUS model with the only things upgraded is the PSU, additional RAM, HDD, and graphics card to a EVGA Nvidia Geforce 760 GTX OC. Basically I have a portable desktop at my disposal, which is a phenomenal feeling.

Best Windows Laptop I've Owned
It's not often I give any kind of computer five stars. It takes a lot of effort to get a PC right. Laptops are even harder to pull off correctly. The G751JY-DH72X has some shortcomings, but overall it's the best windows laptop I have ever owned.PROSScreenThe screen is clear and looks great. The viewing angles are good and resolution is good. Some people complained that this laptop didn't come with a 4K display. Those people are flapping their lips without thinking it through. To run a 4K display in a game setting would require two or three high end graphics cards. That's not feasible in a laptop. Also, if you can tell the difference between 1080p and 4K on a 17" screen, you must be part eagle.PowerThis thing is a beast. It can run almost anything out there at a rate of 50+ FPS. To pull that off in a laptop that costs under 3K is amazing.Card ReaderWhy is this in here? Because of how well they designed it. You can take a standard SD card, put it into the slot, and it clicks in. It's also flush to the side of the laptop. Often the card sticks out of a card reader. This is impressive because this allows you to basically add a third, high speed, hard drive. For $80 you can have an additional 256 gigs of storage.User UpgradesBy taking out one screw on the back, you can access the service port. In here you can swap out the blu-ray drive with a hard drive caddie, swap out the hard drives, or replace the memory. That's a great bonus in a laptop.PortsThey did not skimp on the ports. I love that. There are plenty of USB 3 ports, a VGA, a Thunder Bolt, and more. That gives this machine a big boost on it's flexibility.HeatIt's simply amazing that they manage to keep this laptop cool. Granted, the back of the laptop looks like an afterburner, but it does an amazing job,DesignThere are a lot of small tweaks in the design of this laptop. For instance, the keyboard slopes towards you, instead of laying flat. That makes it more comfortable to use. The more you use this, the more you realize that someone spent a lot of time trying to get it right.CONSSoundThis is a very minor con. I really don't care the speakers on a laptop. I use ear buds or a headset. I think most people do, especially if they are traveling. If you want to use the speakers for watching movies or listening to music, you will be somewhat disappointed. The quality is only marginal.Windows 8.1This doesn't detract from the number of stars, because it's not Asus's fault. Windows 8.1 is not good. I really hate it. It takes too much effort to get from one place to another or a lot of tweaking to put shortcuts in. Hopefully windows 10 will be better.Back LightingThe back lighting is cool, but there are some annoying aspects to it. First you can't change the color. Second it's on a timer. I'd rather they did it like Apple. Apple lets you set it and forget it. It'll only shut off the Mac powers off, goes to sleep, or you turn the back lighting off. With this laptop, if you stop typing, within a few minutes the back lighting shuts off.No Recovery DiscI know this is a small thing, but it's annoying to have to create your own recovery disc. How much does on blu-ray or DVD cost? Instead I have to use one of my USB flash drives. That's it. The cons are small with this rig. Overall it's a great gaming laptop. It also looks better, costs less, and matches the performance of the MSI equivalent rig.

Best laptop ever
Best laptop ever. Some issues, but nothing unfixable. I recommend tweaking the speaker with the realtek mixer that comes with the laptop. Windows 10 runs well once you update to it. If you get it, make sure to turn of battery saver in Geforce Experience, otherwise you're not gonna get more than 30FPS on battery power.

Webcam was not working
Product is good. Everything is fine. However, the webcam was not working while I get the laptop. I sent it back to ASUS they fixed it but I payed so much money to postal service...

A great experience with some big performance concerns.
To be clear, this is a review of the laptop, not the vendor I bought it from; I have high regard for the vendor. This is certainly a very nice laptop. The fit and finish on it is very good and I appreciate the attention to details like the dedicated Steam button which launches steam from a powered off state, and the dedicated video record button which sets this device in the professional gaming category in my mind. The huge and frankly unforgivable downside to this device is the SATA2 connexion for the second hard drive. I immediately replaced the mechanical drive in it with a solid state drive and saw very small performance improvement. Even my previous ASUS ROG G750 had SATA3 on both its drives. From a price point perspective, the G751 is significantly more expensive than an Alienware with similar graphics and CPU specs. This purchase has been a wake up call for me. I've owned 3 ROG laptops so far, and next year I will look much harder at other manufactures before purchasing. I play Civ V, Civ Beyond Earth, Skyrim {with RealVision enb} and Witcher 3 on this laptop.
