Best bag I didn't keep
I use my bag constantly (work commuting, gym, grocery runs (walking or on my bike), carry-on for 30-40 plane trips a year), and have tried several the past few years, and then researched heavily, including wirecutter, and then ordered and tried out several finalists and returned all but one. And man, it was close. I was torn between this and the LL Bean Quad, and alternated them for a few weeks. Broke my heart to return this, because I love so much about it, and for many it would be the right choice, but I decided I loved the Quad more. (Incidentally, wirecutter recommended a similar LL Bean model as best, but I upgraded, for more size and more pockets.) I usually start with pros, but since I returned this product, I'll go right to the reasons why: 1. Heavy: At 3.5 pounds, this is the heaviest of my finalists by far, more than a pound heavier than similar bags, including the Quad. (I tried some ultra-light bags 2 pounds less.) I pack a lot, and often have the bag all day, and want to keep as light as possible, and an extra pound starting weight is a big minus. 2. Size: this is a hearty size, but about 5 liters less than the 35L Quad. That's about 15% less capacity--not massive, but enough to tip the scale for me. 3. No waist strap! This was really the dealbreaker for me, and seems insane. It was the only highly-rated bag I even considered without one. What were they thinking? It DOES have chest strap, which is great in some situations (especially on a bike), but that's nearly always the add-on AFTER the waist strap. This is mostly an issue if you're loading up heavy, and/or for long. The waist strap makes a huge difference in shifting much of the weight from your shoulders to hips. When the shoulder straps start digging into your muscles up there, you will really curse it not being loaded onto your waist. (Also: this bag was about 50% more expensive than the Quad (LL Bean constantly has it reduced from the list price, and then another 20% to join their email list). This was not a huge factor for me, because I decided I've wasted so much on getting inferior bags, and use it so much, I'd pay to get the best solution. It may be a big factor for others. If those are not big concerns, this might be the bag for you. Pros (SO many) 1. Spacious (compared to most) 2. Great materials, feels solid, and good reviews all around on lasting. 3. Soooooo many pockets and great organization! This is a big deal for me, especially on plane travel, where I like to pack all sorts of things that I can get to quickly when I get there, and also which I can pull out quickly while boarding the plane to keep what I need in my seat (book, laptop, water bottle, pen, sometimes notes, snacks, sometimes pills), while stashing the bag in the overhead. This bag actually slightly exceed the Quad. They have a similar number of external zippable compartments (around 10!) but so many I have found it hard to keep track of which is which--(amazing problem to have)--and this one has them in a more systematic layout. 4. Great fit, great feel, smart ventilation system, etc. Stands up by itself, at least to start. (Not flopping over makes a big difference in loading it up. Note that many bags stand up at first, but that doesn't last. Some don't stand up day 1.) 5. So many extras. There is a hardened small area where you can stash your glasses, sunglasses, phone etc, without them getting crushed or scratched. (Not really necessary for phone--huge for glasses.) The separate laptop zipped area in back is incredible. (This was nearly a deciding factor over the Quad, which also has this feature, but it's has a slightly smaller opening, which doesn't quite fit my 15" Macbook Air. This one zips from above, so it CAN slide in to the same sized space.) I also liked a unique feature: nearly all top bags have water holders on both sides, which is great, because I always need one, but never two, so one is wasted. This bag offers that, but zippable top, so it can easily work as a bottle holder, or another compartment for keys, pills, various small things. Very versatile! In terms of design features, this bag and the Quad were really evenly matched. The Quad has two fleece-lined smallish compartments for phones and whatnot, that are REALLY nice--way nicer than this--but doesn't have the hardened area. There are lots of little design features where this and the Quad rival each other, each a little better on one than the next, but both superb. I would limit the finalists to these 2 bags, and then depending on your priorities, pick one. (Or try both.)

3 years later… I still love this bag.
I’ve this bag for about 3 years now and I still love it. I primary use it for work and travel. It’s showing a few signs of wear after daily use (I’m not gentle on it) but still looks great. The zippers still feel smooth. I love how many pockets this thing has! It’s so easy to keep things organized. The glasses pocket is big enough to fit at least 2 pairs of glasses. I can’t recommend this bag enough. It’s perfect as a daily backpack and for travel.

The last laptop bag you'll need
I'd been eyeing this bag for months waiting for the dark static color to get back into stock. When it finally did I immediately pulled the trigger and haven't regretted it for a second! This bag is high quality and stylish. Roomy, but compacted. Mine main work computer is an Asus G14, which easily fits into the computer sleeve on the back and keeps it well protected. I also have a 15.6" Asus Zenscreen I carry around as a second monitor in the main compartment. Even with that chunky portable screen there's enough room for few note pads or any other goodies I may need. The other pockets are a perfect size for charging cables and my Amazon basics 100w portable charger. I rarely use the sunglass pocket for glasses, but instead keep a small 8BitDo gaming controller in there along with my medicine pillbox. The other top pocket contains pencils, pens, typical office supplies. The side pockets are stellar as well. One contains my Leatherman, while the other perfectly houses my G305 mouse. I've been caught out in the rain a few times and while the bag does retain the dampness, I've never had anything soak in completely. However, I do have an external rain cover I carry just in case things get really wild. This pack is extremely comfortable and breathes well. I got it during the winter months, but so far with the raise in temperature, my bad and shoulders have stayed cool. For a backpack this is on the pricy side, but you 100% get what you pay for! This was an excellent investment that should last me for years to come.

The best possible solution for the Road Warrior, whether a daily commuter bag or for air travel.
I spent an extended period of time looking at backpacks to carry my Lenovo W541 I use for work. I finally opted for the OGIO Renegade because of the numerous reviews and build quality that OGIO has put into their products. I was originally using a Logitech KINETIK 15.4 Backpack that began to fall apart at the seams, literally; the main zipper compartment began fraying at the zipper in the corners. This was when I looked hard at OGIO but was reluctant because of the cost of their products, however after watching numerous videos and watching numerous road warriors stick copious amounts of gear in the bag effortlessly, I was pretty convinced and took the plunge. When I received the bag I was very satisfied with my purchase because of the build quality I had mentioned earlier; the entire construction of the bag was better than most of the other backpacs I've used over my lifetime, including Jansport's and Eastpak's. The layout is very dynamic, having specific pockets that were designed for things like a water bottle, your AC adapter, a dedicated laptop pocket that did not require opening up the main pockets, a isolated and protected eyeglass pocket, a table pocket, etc. The design of the bag is such that each pocket allows you to put lots of additional gear in them without occupying too much space in other pockets, especially the main front pocket which is made for your personal items, small accessories like wireless mouse, wallet and keys; I keep a large pair of over-ear Denon headphones (Urban Raver) in the very front pocket and still have lot's of space in the secondary pocket where the tablet pouch is. I also keep an 18650 battery charge and small screwdriver toolkit as well as an Amazon Basic's Universal Travel Case for Small Acessories and Electronics which holds all my vaping gear and still have lots of additional room. The suspension system that is used for the laptop pocket is one of the more intelligent designs I've seen for laptop bags, allowing the carrier to have a dedicated pocket that doesn't intrude to the other storage areas and protects the laptop from drops. The bag was obviously designed with the 'Road Warrior' type traveler, having lots of options for storage that the carrier can decide how to use. The other great feature of this bag is the stitching and riveting; the bag has double stitches in high tension areas as well as rivets for the main bag handle at the top, something that is lacking in many other bags of similar design. My only negative about this bag would come down to the straps; I'm a short, stocky guy who must pull the straps to their longest position to use this bag effectively, however the quality of the straps is of high grade materials and I have no fear that they are going to give out at any time. There is also some good design implementations on the straps themselves having a dedicated pocket on the straps for ear buds and an mp3 player (and the small gap that allows the wires to be threaded through) as well as a small logo strap above the earbud pocket that a cellphone holster can be attached to. All the materials for the straps are solid and distribute the load of the bag evenly without tugging on stitched points causing unnecessary wear and tear. TL;DR summary; this is the best road warrior bag you can currently buy without spending hundreds more on an all-leather bag or major luggage brand (think Tumi, Ricardo or high-end Samsonite). Tons of pockets to carry everything imaginable and lots of built in features to make traveling, whether local commuting or air travel, very simple and convenient. Would recommend to anyone that uses a backpack daily, especially in IT fields.

The best business / gadget / travel bag I have owned.
Around some years ago I had the need to replace my laptop/travel backpack (Samsonite) which actually was quite useful since it was big enough to hold a lot of stuff and had a lot of compartments... however the straps were somehow losing their cushioning so it really was a pain on my shoulders and back. Then in 2013 CES Exhibition at Las Vegas, I ran into this bag at the OGIO stand, and the sales guy told me that the bag was recently released and allowed me to have a try and check the bag around. My first impressions were that it was very well built and with a lot of pockets and features. So after some months of research reviews and comparing with other bags in youtube reviews I decided to purchase it through Amazon. Now I have been almost 3 years with this bag and I am very pleased. I have traveled with it at least 20 times for business mostly. Even when I moved to Mexico for 1 and a half, I was able to fit in almost of all the electronics and gadgets that I needed for my job post there, laptop, hard drives, two iPods, Bose Noise Cancelling QC15 earphones, Bluetooth speaker (UE Boom), notebooks and files, assortment of pens and markers, two sunglasses and reading glasses, water bottle, point and shoot Canon camera (S95), chargers and cables for mobile phones in a dedicated pouch, etc. All in all I can tell you from experience these are the key features of this bag: - 1 dedicated compartment that fits a 15" inch laptop at the back of the bag, and has a suspension at the bottom that allows to cushion the laptop in case you drop it to hard to floor. Also this compartment is placed for easy access when passing through those annoying X-Rays at the airport where in most cases they require to take out you laptop. - It has 3 more separated compartments, being the first one the biggest one that holds larger items like headphones, jacket, books, etc. Then immediately you'll find another compartment which has a built-in "jacket' or sleeve to hold you tablet as big as 10", also you can place other thin items here like folders, medium sized notebooks or magazines, point and shoot camera, etc. Then the front compartment which is the smallest one is quite useful since it has also some mesh zippered pockets to fill in with the items such as business cards, cables, flash drives, keys, cables chargers etc. - Then in the outside at the top there is two pockets, one that is hardened internally so it can hold your glasses or maybe your precious smartphone without the risk of being crushed by weight may be put atop the bag. Just beneath this hardened pocket there is another small pocket also with some mesh divisions inside for you to place more items that you might want to have at hands reach, like business cards, candy bar, lip balm, flash drives, IDs, keys, etc. - Now, still the bag has more places to store your gear... it has 4 more pockets placed at the sides (2 in each side) for storing more stuff like gadgets that you need to grab on the fly... like a point and shoot camera, a battery power bank, iPod, mobile phone, GPS, you name it. In fact one of those pockets can open up to hold also a water bottle. - The zipper are very heavy duty, and the stitching of the bag is the best quality. - The straps are well designed and have an adjustable little belt that connects them in front of your chest for better stabilization of the bag once is worn. The only real complain or observation that I have about the bag, is that the cushioning of the shoulder straps could use some improvement and the straps them selves could be a little wider to grab more space in your body and stabilize the bag more especially when is really really loaded because believe me this bag CAN HOLD STUFF.

Best overall travel backpack I’ve ever owned!
The quality and functionality of this backpack is amazing! I travel often for work and pleasure all over the world. I’ve had this bag for a full year and it has held up amazingly! It has served as my backpack on 4 trips to Hawaii from the east coast, 4 trips to Europe, 3 Caribbean vacations and over a dozen smaller trips. I also carry this to work every single day and use it as my gym bag. Suffice to say it has held up incredibly throughout! It is comfortable and provides plenty of organization options for anyone’s packing needs. I particularly love the small touches like the rigid eyeglass pocket on top and the strap for putting it on my spinner handle. I travel carry-on only for every work trip and vacation so that feature is a must have. After a full year of heavy use it only has a couple of minor cosmetic blemishes. Extremely impressed! The only negative (if it’s even really a negative) is that the laptop pocket is almost over engineered and eats in the the main storage compartment a bit more than I would prefer. However, your electronics are incredibly protected in there and that is clearly what Ogio was going for. All in all this is the best daily and travel backpack I have owned to date. Highly recommended!

Great purchase, you will not be disappointed!
First OGIO bag ever and by far best ever. Fits my 17” Lenovo in rear compartment, great storage space in 2nd large zipper area where I keep my portable monitor and other misc items, iPad storage space is large enough to keep iPad Pro with keyboard and case, plenty of room on side storage pockets for extra mouse, misc items, front storage hold my old TI calculator perfectly (old school had since 98 in high school but yet still reliable) other pockets within. Reviewed on both OGIO webpage and Amazon, please note the the description may be a little off, my Lenovo overall is 17” and they mentioned will only hold a 15” this is not the case. 17” will fit. The laptop pocket is suspended and the bottom of the backpack is hardened for protection if dropped. I previously owned the Swiss backpack and thought it was great but this one is cream of the crop. The RSS renegade bag is the best. I have in black so it hopefully will not show that much wear and tear. I’m 6’-1” and fairly fit and have to say it feels weight displacement on back is evenly distributed and not tugging directly on the shoulders. Hope to have for quite sometime. It’s not a cheap bag and have to say it’s not built cheap either, quality materials bit inside and out. Definitely worth the money, don’t 2nd guess yourself. If any questions please post and I’ll try to answer.

OGIO has taken business backpacks to a new level
I had the large predecessor to this bag for several years and the zippers finally gave out. I read the reviews carefully before buying this one. One of things I liked the most about the last bag was that it had 3 top compartments, but this one only has one. The top compartments are extremely handy for glasses, calculators, electronics. I think the reason they cut down to one on the Renegade was to make the bag more compact. The base is not as large at the base and it is easier to get into overhead bins on planes. What they lost in the top compartments they made up for with the side pouches. There are four side pouches that are extremely functional and are padded. I carry a PC power supply, camera, glasses cleaning gear and financial calculator in these. The laptop slot has moved from the side to the top which is more convenient. It is large, well padded and very secure. The middle storage pouch is very large. I carry project documentation, binders and headphones with no problem. This pouch keeps its size as opposed to bags that look as if they have many useful compartments, but compress to nothing when you start to load them. The next compartment forward has a pouch for electronics and has enough room for my various chargers, headsets, etc. The final forward front pouch has the pencil/pen pouches and slots for business cards, etc. This area probably shrank the most, but it is adequate. I carry too much stuff since this backpack is my mobile office, but I get everything in it and it is a great looking bag. There is enough room to do an overnight with a change of clothes, etc. One of the comments I saw in other reviews that I agree with is the inadequacy of the straps. If you load the bag the straps are not as wide or comfortable as they should be if you are hiking end to end at Denver International. But having used the bag for months and already put a lot of miles on it, I would not trade for any of the other bags I've had and there have been many. In comparing to many other bags in stores and online, it is apparent to me that the Ogio designers are giving a lot of thought to the real issues of how to build a backpack that is actually functional, does not have wasted unusable space and provides storage that is easy to access and organize.
