Tripp Lite review
It is heavy and bulky, but I guess that is what electrical backups are supposed to be?It was not for me, I bought for someone else, so could not tell you about the quality

Using a 27" inch iMac late 2012? This is for you.
I shopped around, in stores and online. I was so confused, quite frankly frustrated. There were so many brands and models, w/ so many Wattages. I'm familiar w/ Tripp lite, I've bought from them before for an older AMD Athlon 800mHz PC and I've been through a few power outages to know their UPS products work solid and are reliable. I was on Tripp Lite's website and found they had an online live chat feature. I talked to a very knowledgable rep, and he looked up the wattage for my iMac. It's about 310 watts, and it usually idles around 120-150 Watts. I told him I also had a older external monitor (Samsung Sync master 204b w/ 36 Watts) and only needed a few minutes to be able to save my work (documents, photos, etc) and then perform a safe shutdown. He said this UPS model would be perfect for my needs. Needless to say I learned a lot! I bought it off here from Amazon, it came really quick and good price. Tripp Lite has a few different distributers to choose from. I just prefer Amazon. This UPS supports up to 375 Watt load on battery. Also found out that you do not hook up a printer to any UPS units, as printers consume high amounts of power. Just plug in your essentials- computer, monitor, and if you have a powered external HDD. **Most importantly,iMacs also started using power factor correcting power supplies a few years ago, which now require a pure SINE wave output on battery.** Do not just buy any UPS before doing your homework on what fits your needs. This unit is also not fancy in the way that it has a LCD screen. Its a simple on off button w/ a green light so you know if on and fully charged. I like simplicity! It hooked up in five minutes and MAC OS 10.8.5 Mtn Lion recognized right away that I was on UPS. There is an indicator next to the wifi icon that gives you the % charge and if you can modify Shutdown options in the Energy Save Preference Pane under System Prefs. I didn't install the software that came with the UPS.When I get a power outage, I will update and rate this a 5!Update: 1/1/2014: Had a blackout last night. Power surged though the entire home and anything plugged in and ON got fried (i.e. Microwave, nightlights). Good thing I had surge protectors on the home theater system and this trusty Unit fulfilled its duty! I'm trying to figure out how to get it to stop beeping though so I'll contact Tripplite. My iMac was safe! It said I had about 30min power left in the upper menu/icon bar so it was plenty of time to save my work and perform shutdown safely. My brother lives in a different place and his stereo, microwave and plasma tv were cooked. 5 stars! Will update after Customer Service Call.Update: 1/2/14: I plugged in the UPS after the power outage yesterday and left it plugged in. After a few hours I fired it back up again- no beeping! I believe the battery had to charge itself first after it was drained.Update: 2/1/14: Our building had another brownout and surge- the trusty UPS kicked in again w/out a problem. This time the beeping didn't last long. Its back up and running full charge. Keeping the 5-star rating. No damage to any of my pc equipment and I was able to save my work with no data loss!

Tripp Lite BC600SINE UPS, OK IF you need a 60-cycle sine wave
Updated review 10/1/2011:Would have been 5 stars if it weren't for the strong burnt odor while new.Good points:(1) It works as advertised - while on battery it outputs a fair sine wave of 114 VAC RMS at 62 +/- 1.5 cycles, an enormous improvement over the coarse stepped square wave AC output of non-sine UPS's. It's pretty clean with a 35-watt load, and only somewhat distorted with a more typical 175 watt load of a single computer + LCD monitor, so even PC's with newer PFC power supplies should work OK with it (for waveform illustration I uploaded 2 scope photos to Amazon's product web page). Switchover time is acceptably fast, no blips seen on a computer.I did not test the USB auto-shutdown software.(2) Decisive factor in choosing this Tripp Lite: their tech support is actually located in the U.S. and gave prompt accurate answers to my questions. Another U.S. brand I contacted had overseas "support" which gave me a completely erroneous answer to a simple question; when queried again they said they would get back to me, but never did. One prays that Tripp Lite will not someday yield to the sorry practice of outsourcing support to unqualified answering services abroad.Caveats, first 2 minor & the 3rd more major:(1) The owner's manual is oversimplified to the point of being insulting, without such essential information as the battery type, runtime table (available online), and steps for replacing it (the battery door is locked by an unmarked screw). Their ads say "Hot-swappable, user replaceable batteries" but the manual states that "There are no user-serviceable parts inside" and "Battery replacement should be performed only by authorized service personnel". Further research shows that its single 12-volt RBC51 battery can indeed be replaced by owners, and that this excuse for a manual is likely the result of technically-illiterate legal personnel overruling the tech writers in a sad effort to avoid any kind of responsibility.(2) Not a green machine: it runs warm, drawing 15 watts even when the battery is fully charged and nothing is connected. By comparison, a non-sine UPS of similar capacity draws only about 2 watts when not in use. If in service 24 hrs/day, the BC600SINE will add about $1.50 a month to your electric bill even while on standby.(3) When new it gives off a very strong, unpleasant, penetrating odor like burned plastic, fumes that built up in a small computer room and greatly irritated my nose and eyes - I had to put it outside for 21 days, powered on with a fan blowing through it, before the smell decreased from being intolerable to just annoying. Googling now turns up similar complaints for other UPS makes - evidently the Chinese factories are using materials that are inferior to those of times past when manufacturing was done here. For many years I worked with electronic equipment in the military, industry, and at home, and never encountered such a long lasting bad smell except in devices that had burned up components in overloads. So, be aware that if you have a functional nose and intend to use this UPS in a small room, you might not be able to stand the odor for 3 weeks or more after delivery; on the other hand, in large well-ventilated rooms like offices it may not be so overpowering.

WORKS!
I use this as a backup on our freezer. Sometimes the Ground Fault Interrupter gets tripped in the garage and this will notify ( beep... beep... beep ) when the power is out or the GFI trips. Can't imagine losing ALL THE FOOD in the freezer because you didn't know the GFI popped. Depending on the season... your talking $400 + in food! This is peace of mind. WORKS PERFECTLY! Expensive for a battery back up... BUT it's "PURE SINE WAVE"! HUGE DIFFERENCE in quality of power and product... You get what you pay for and I recommend and would buy again.
