Produced in association with Marvel Television, and set in the "X-Men" universe, family adventure series The Gifted's first season ended with the Mutant HQ Atlanta Station under attack and ultimately destroyed. With things coming to a breaking point, two mutant factions formed, alliances shifted and relationships were put to the test. Sentinel Services, though weakened by the destruction of the Hound Program and departure of agent Jace Turner, is still hunting mutants. Season Two picks up six months later, with the Mutant Underground at their new HQ in Washington D.C., stuck in the middle of an increasingly polarized nation, as both anti-mutant sentiment and the mutant rights movement are on the rise. The X-Men believed that mutants and humans could live together in peace -- now that dream hangs in the balance. The second season introduces Reeva Payge, a powerful and ruthless mutant who takes over as the leader of The Inner Circle and can emit sonic blasts that scramble minds. Also featured are the Morlocks -- known by Marvel Comics fans -- a shadowy group of mutants who live underground. In the dawn of a mutant age, new powers emerge and conflicting ideologies determine the future of Mutant-kind. Review: An excellent and deeply felt science-fiction series - The Gifted is a well-done series that is serious, intelligent, and deeply-felt. The cast members give uniformly excellent performances playing nuanced characters who cope with trauma, and persevere while facing tragic dilemmas. It is unfortunate that this series was not continued into a third season. However, (without giving away spoilers) Season 2 ends with a satisfying conclusion for almost all of the story lines of the two seasons, while hinting that the series was about to go in a brand-new direction. Regarding the DVD set, all 4 DVDs played with no problems on my TV's DVD player (an older model LG Blu-ray disc player). Each DVD has a simple menu for episode selection, and while no additional subtitle or alternate audio options are available, I found the video and sound quality of the episodes to be at least as good as in the Season 1 DVD set (My understanding is that this is a Manufacture-on-Demand DVD set, where sets for certain TV series or seasons are only produced by a studio when they are specifically requested by a purchaser. As someone who keeps a DVD/Blu-ray library of his favorite shows and movies, I’m glad that these official DVD releases of The Gifted’s two seasons are available). Review: The Gifted - It was good series. Wish it would have lasted longer.

An excellent and deeply felt science-fiction series

A decent, but bittersweet end to the series
++++Warning, this contains season 1 spoilers, but no major season 2 giveaways++++ This ended up being the final season of The Gifted. It is a bittersweet end because the show was clearly setting up a third season to go in a different direction, but the show was canceled after the season airs. It did, however, provide a decent ending to the initial story which started with season-one. This season can best be summed up by mutants vs. mutants vs. humans. One team of mutants consisted of the inner circle, which formed after Lorna and Andy decided to go with the triplets and split from the mutant underground. Both groups faced a threat from a group of anti-mutant humans eventually lead by Jace after his dismissal from sentinel services, who are basically a group of vigilantes who hunt down mutants. Peter Gallagher (of The OC and Covert Affairs) comes in part-way through the season to play an anti-mutant television personality who stirs up trouble. In large part, the entire season is a metaphor for today's political climate. Every episode provides a back-story for each main character told through flashbacks. It is the main vehicle for character development this season. I will not give too much of the story away, but the crux of the season is about stopping an all-out war between mutants and humans. For those who get the DVD set, it is a basic MOD set. No extras of any kind, and not even subtitles. Just the 16 episodes which can be played individually or in a play all mode. So, the only reason to get this is if you bought season-one on DVD and want it to have both seasons. Otherwise, there is no benefit that you will get with the DVDs versus streaming it.

Great show, definitely would recommend!
A friend of mine got me into the first season and I became hooked with the second. Been craving more of this! It’s set in the X-Men universe, at a time after the characters we know and love from the original movies are long gone. The character development is great, each in their own arcs and the mixes in the story rich environment stemming from everyone on how their group came to be, what their purpose is, and how they stand together is this world torn between good and evil. I thought the series was amazing! Definitely would recommend it! Sadly, don’t get too attached - they discontinued another good show. It leaves us hanging after the second season.

Outstanding series that ended too soon
Great tv series! character development and the plot and sub plots were easy to follow and enjoyable. So sorry that it only went a few seasons.

Great Season
I am an X-Men comics and movie fan and I love this season. Too bad it was not picked up for a third season. I love Thunderbird, Blink, the three triplet telepathic sisters (how they complete each others sentences) well just all of the characters. Thanks

Arrived in perfect condition, quite quickly, and the quality is exceptionally good. I bought season 1 in the local shopping mall when it released and waited literally years before finding out there wouldn't be a studio wide release of season 2. You've probably read a few reviews that comment about these being dvd-r and not a traditional studio release. I have to say however that these are exceptionally good quality and nearly a seamless representation of a studio release. The case and disc's look very professional, the only way you would know they are not a studio release is the read side of the disc's is dvd-r and not a tradional manufactured product. Each disc has an interactive menu that lets you select each episode independently, or play all to watch each episode one after the other. Within each episode you can skip chapters forward and back like any regular show released by a studio. I didn't notice any fault in the quality of the footage itself while watching them and they appeared better than some shows I have that were released by other studios, I'm looking at you Paramount. The case looks as shown in the Amazon picture with the front cover having The Gifted the Complete Second season, and the side with the fox logo on top and a mini picture of the front. The back is what you'd expect for any show being sold as an independent season of a series. A few pictures of the episodes, credits, etc. As mentioned if the disc's didn't look like dvd-r then I wouldn't know I'm not getting a studio released product. This was made with exceptional care. If your a fan of the X-Men and enjoyed this series as a live action version, featuring some origianl side characters as well as new ones introduced for the show, then this is definitely a good one to go for. It seems as if it takes place just before the Days of Future Past movie that released around the same time. I think I prefer season 1 but after rewatching season 2 it definitely holds up.

One of the best X-Men spin-offs ever produced. (Check out the others: Mutant X and Legion). Great serialized writing, interesting characters including a cohesive (although sometimes challenged) family dynamic between 4 of the characters. I was glad to see the whole series finally released. I'm hoping they'll do the same with Marvel's Runaways and Cloak & Dagger shows too. They're way ahead of DC in writing style and tone at the moment.
