Good quality socket
The joke is that you can never find your 10mm wrench/socket when needed as it’s one of the most common metric sizes on import vehicles. I have a couple metric socket sets, but none were deep socket. I needed one in order to remove then reinstall battery hold down clamps on my vehicle and this one worked perfectly.

Marzocchi bicycle fork 12mm foot nut tool R5165/c
1) If you are looking for the marzocchi foot nut tool read on. 2) If you are looking how to make your own thin wall sockets, read on. 3) If you are looking for the actual outside diameter of these sockets before and after being grinded down, via dial calaper readings, read on, and check the photo's. I purchased this socket for a specific purpose. The purpose was dismantling a 2007 Marzocchi Z1 RC2 ETA - TS 150mm Anniversary bike suspension Fork. This requires a special Marzocchi tool, a 12mm foot nut tool # R5164/C. WITHOUT THE TOOL I needed a very thin walled deep socket to reach the nut I needed to get to. The walls of even so-called thin-walled sockets were too large and thick to reach the depth of the recessed nut. I was able to carefully put this socket on a bench grinder and grind it down so that it would fit into the recess. Keep in mind, I only needed about 10 to 20 newton meters of torque to remove and install this particular bicycle recessed nut, so I'm not sure how durable it would be if using it on a car, now that it is grinded down to a thinner-walled status. On a bench grinder it took me 10 minutes or so to grind it to the proper thickness. In order to hold the socket, I simply used an extension and some gloves to prevent my hands from getting hot. I used it in place of an Marzocchi bicycle fork specific tool, the 12mm foot nut tool, which is impossible to find anywhere on the internet. This tool is required for several marzocchi Forks, in order to remove the lower slider assembly. You must remove the lower slide assembly to replace oil seals, and bushings. This socket is cheap enough thought it was worth experimenting on. Worthy to note is that is a 1/4 inch drive, not a 3/8 inch drive socket, which made it a little thinner to start with. Overall I would say you can grind down any brand socket to make it thin walled if you need to very easily. You could probably use a hand file if you wanted to, but it would take longer than using the bench grinder. I think I used a 60 or 80 grit grinding wheel. Although even a 100 or 120would probably work fine. My grinder is a Jet JBG-6A. I would like to note that if you don't have a bench grinder, and you don't want to hand file, that a Dremel tool would probably work just fine. Maybe even a belt sander! If you don't want to spend the money on thin wall sockets and you have access to a bench grinder, you could make very easily thin wall sockets to suit whatever your needs are, and these Craftsman sockets, at least the one I tried, was cheap enough, and forged well enough, to do the task.
