Day I Stopped Drinking Milk

Simple and honest
Sudha Murthy has always been someone I had admired because of her simplicity and genuineness. And more than that her believe in giving to the society has always been admirable. This book is all about her experience as a philanthropist. Well not all but most of the book talks of the various selfless , people-serving individuals who made a mark in other people's lives. This compilation of real life experiences of Sudha Murthy inspires with the tales of selfless service, amuses with a scattering of human-life anecdotes and leaves you happy about reading what you read.I had never taken Sudha Murthy as an author in the league of of some well known story tellers, neither does this book put her anywhere at the top of the list but the honesty of the book won it's reader in me... So much so that I recommend this book for a satisfying short read to all who want to feel good about what they read.

My first Sudha Murthy Read and a good one!
The day I stopped drinking milk is about people the author has come across, heard about or interacted with who have made an impression on her, good or bad, and gave a lesson of life. Every chapter teaches you something that one should follow. These are lessons about selflessness, honesty, simplicity, sacrifice, trust, courage, etc. The book is a reminder that we have a fair share of both good and bad experiences in our life and I would say more good than bad (even in this book most experiences were positive). Even though we tend to hang on to the bad experiences more often than the good ones. My favourite chapter is 'Shraddha' and it's about making a change and taking a stand for yourself as a woman. I am definitely going to continue reading more Sudha Murty stories.

Simple and delivers!
I recently installed Kindle for Android in my mobile and whenever I am made to wait for sometime, due to circumstances beyond my control like eye-testing or school pickups), I make it a point to read this book as well as the others by her. I liked the story telling style and I am seriously considering writing something along these lines - light, crisp and heart-touching tales.I did not know that my son would be reading a lesson in his English CBSE textbook which was an excerpt from this one. When my son saw this kindle book he was pleasantly surprised and took to reading it from the fuller version that I had in my Kindle.Thank you Mrs. Sudha. Please keep writing for us... Your writing style is a pleasure!

Good to read book
Sudha Murty's "Wise and Otherwise" was the first book I happened to read of hers and that was truly touching and soul stirring. I had recommended and lent that book to many of my friends and few had even grabbed a copy of their own after reading that book. The main reasons for liking Sudha Murty's book are they are very simple and good to read. They depict the real time stories and not cooked up. Most importantly the way the author narrates the story it helps you visualize and experience virtually!I definitely enjoyed reading this book and this book is no exception to that impression of Sudha Murty.I thank the author for giving such great books! :)

Very ordinary experiences
the language is lucid. But, the experiences are not very uncommon. Especially the title story "The day I stopped..." is very touching but, that should not be really the reason to stop milk. It;s inhuman to a cow that we make her give milk and we enjoy it by doing so many recipes out of it. Imagine that you are a lady and you are made pregnant just because someone wants your milk. It's ridiculous!! I stopped milk due to this reason. Being a lady, I will not drink milk and milk products and will make the cow happy!!!

Experiences I too experience
I have read few of these stories in Kannada language. Reading again, I felt that Sudha Murthy is a simple writer whose writings can be read by all ages.In one of her stories, "Too many questions", she expects a gift in the end of that story. A philanthropist never expects such. May be writing has been in such a way. Many stories have context of people coming to her asking for financial help. When you have started it, obviously the needy or greedy comes to you. Keep on helping without analysing much.
