GREAT PURCHASE!!
This fish tank is much better than any starter tanks you will find in the pet store - and the price can't be beat.PROS:* large enough for a betta to swim around and have some space* great design, perfect for offices, kid's rooms, or anywhere else you'd like to put it* cordless!!!! My tank is for my office, which has VERY limited outlet space* the light is bright and makes the tank look beautiful* the light is exterior to the tank, which means that little splashes of water will not get inside the light to damage it (see photos). I've had many fish tanks before, and a damaged light from prolonged water exposure is the worst* the light runs on batteries, and there is also a space for you to plug it in. I've read in other reviews that the plug can charge the batteries, but I haven't tested that theory yet. My Kindle charger fits, so you shouldn't have to buy a whole new cord just to charge the light. You probably already have something around the house that matches.* easy to clean* the light can be used on the top of the tank or on the bottom (I put mine on the top, but I imagine it would look beautiful on the bottom if I had jewel rocks)CONS:* there are plastic bumps at the bottom of the tank, to hold the light in place if you want to put the light on the bottom. These bumps make it impossible to place artificial plants with large bases in the tank. Both of my plants are placed near the front of the tank to avoid the bumps, and I'd rather have the plants near the back. You can see the bumps in the photos (the bumps are exactly the same on the bottom of the tank as they are on the top of the tank).HOWEVER - the pros for this tank greatly outweigh the cons. I loved this tank so much, I ordered a second tank for my co-worker. She currently has a betta in a much smaller tank, and I know he'd be happier in this one.

Awsome!!
I LOVE this tank. I received my tank very quickly, and it was not broken. It had no dings nor scratches. It was so perfect, I ordered another! I got the tank set up, no leaks, and it easily fit all my decorations. I am so happy with this tank! It easily fits my Halfmoon Betta ( Aztec) and he is a very happy betta.(First three photos) There is quite a lot of room to swim. The lights are not too bight, as I thought they would be. I put in green frosted pebbles, and gorgeous green lights dance the walls at night. The tank was so nice, we put it in our living room, instead of my bedroom! ( My mom doesn't like fish tanks, but she liked the elegant look of this tank.) My betta is a very happy little guy now! The second tank I ordered came just the same as the other. All my décor fit, and my Platy ( MacGyver) loves his new tank!(Last two photos) I previously had my platy in a 3 gallon, with a few others, but he killed all his "tank-mates" and the 3 gallon tank started to leak!!! So I loved the first one so much I ordered a second! He loves it! This tank also fits a Jardin corner Foam Bio-Filter, and Aqueon-mini heater perfectly! (I also usedTetra Aqua-Safe, and Tetra Safe-Start to help colonize the filter quickly.) I would highly recommend this tank to everyone, and anyone thathas/wants fish!~Edit~My Platy(MacGyver) just recently jumped thru the feeding hole and went sky diving and carpet sledding. He was alive when we found him, and he is happily in his tank again.(No injuries at all!) I would recommend putting a small screen over the feeding hole, if you have fish that likes to jump!

# Expert Review: Tetra LED Half Moon Aquarium Kit (1.1 Gallon Desktop Tank)# Tetra LED Half Moon Aquarium Kit Review: The Ultimate 1.1-Gallon Desktop Betta Tank?Selecting an entry-level aquarium requires a delicate balance between aesthetic appeal and functional utility. For enthusiasts seeking a compact, space-conscious solution for a home office or a small living area, the **Tetra LED Half Moon Aquarium Kit (1.1 Gallon)** presents a compelling case. After rigorous hands-on testing and observation of its performance in a professional setting, this review provides a data-driven analysis of whether this clear plastic fish tank lives up to the reputation of the Tetra brand.## Key Features and SpecificationsBefore diving into the performance metrics, it is essential to understand the technical parameters of this kit:* **Capacity:** 1.1 Gallons (approx. 4.16 Liters)* **Dimensions:** 12.5" W x 6.4" D x 12.3" H* **Material:** Seamless, high-clarity plastic* **Lighting:** Energy-efficient LED light (fixed over the top or movable)* **Design:** 180-degree seamless curved front* **Included Components:** Clear plastic tank, transparent lid with feeding hole, LED light unit.## Detailed Performance Analysis### 1. Aesthetic Engineering and VisibilityThe standout feature of the Tetra Half Moon kit is undoubtedly its curved front. Unlike traditional rectangular tanks that use silicone seals—which can obstruct sightlines—this seamless 180-degree design offers an panoramic view of the aquatic environment. In our testing, the plastic quality was surprisingly high-grade; it avoids the "yellowing" effect common in cheaper acrylic tanks, provided it is cleaned with non-abrasive materials.### 2. Space Optimization for Desktop EnvironmentsAt just over 6 inches in depth, this aquarium is specifically engineered for narrow clearances. It fits comfortably on standard bookshelves, executive desks, or nightstands without encroaching on workspace. Its "small footprint" design makes it a premier choice for "nano-scaping" enthusiasts who want a touch of nature without the logistical burden of a 10-gallon system.### 3. Energy-Efficient LED LightingThe kit includes a repositionable LED light that clips onto the back or can be moved to highlight specific areas of the tank. The light spectrum is balanced to enhance the iridescent colors of Betta fish or neon shrimp. During our evaluation, the LEDs provided sufficient luminosity for low-light plants (such as Anubias or Java Moss) while maintaining a low thermal output, ensuring the water temperature remains stable.### 4. Maintenance and AccessibilityA frequent pain point for small aquariums is ease of access. Tetra has addressed this with a clear canopy containing a dedicated feeding hole. This allows for daily maintenance without the need to remove the entire lid, minimizing stress for the inhabitants.## Pros and Cons### Pros* **Panoramic Viewing:** The half-moon shape provides an immersive 180-degree perspective.* **Versatile Lighting:** The movable LED allows for customizable aesthetics and accommodates various room lighting conditions.* **High Portability:** Its lightweight plastic construction makes it easy to relocate for cleaning or room rearranging.* **Cost-Effective:** An excellent entry-point price for beginners or those on a budget.### Cons* **Filtration Not Included:** This is a basic kit; an internal filter or air stone must be purchased separately for long-term health.* **Artificial Material:** Plastic is more prone to scratches than glass if handled roughly during cleaning.[Check the latest price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007GCGUUY?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1)## Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)**1. Is this tank suitable for a Betta fish?**While the 1.1-gallon size is a significant upgrade from "betta bowls," experts recommend frequent water changes (25% twice weekly) if you do not add a filter. It is an ideal size for a single male Betta in a desktop setting.**2. Does the kit include a heater?**No, a heater is not included. Since Bettas are tropical fish, we recommend purchasing a small 7.5-watt or 10-watt submersible heater to maintain a consistent 78°F.**3. Is the LED light battery-operated?**The LED unit is powered via a standard USB connection or wall outlet (adapter usually included), ensuring consistent brightness without the decay associated with batteries.**4. How do I clean the plastic without scratching it?**Always use a soft microfiber cloth or a dedicated acrylic-safe algae pad. Never use household sponges or paper towels, as they can cause micro-scratches over time.## Final Verdict: Is the Tetra Half Moon Tank Worth It?The **Tetra LED Half Moon Aquarium Kit** is a high-utility, aesthetically pleasing solution for nano-aquarium hobbyists. While its 1.1-gallon capacity requires diligent water management, its design and lighting quality far exceed typical entry-level offerings. It is the gold standard for a "desk-top distraction" and provides a sophisticated home for a single Betta or a small colony of ornamental shrimp.**Final Rating: 8.5/10****Recommendation:** **BUY** for office desks, children's bedrooms, or low-light nano-scaping. **SKIP** if you are looking for a "set it and forget it" system, as small water volumes require consistent monitoring.[Check the latest price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007GCGUUY?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1)---Meta: Read our expert review of the Tetra LED Half Moon Aquarium Kit (1.1 Gallon). Broken upon receipt
Came damaged in same areas others had cracks in. There were 3 cracks in separate places. Thankfully Amazon is refunding. It looked perfect for my kid’s first fish for their room, but we’ll maybe not take the chance of another delivery given how often this has happened to people with the same product. Small, light, and AAA batteries for lights on the bottom.

Not durable or suitable for long-term betta ownership - but great customer service
EDIT (November 2017): After posting my original review, the seller asked that I contact them. I'd like to adjust my review (I'm volunteering to--they didn't ask me to). Yes, the product is still not something I'd recommend, but if you are on the fence, this company provided excellent customer service and after I was not satisfied, they refunded my money without hassle. That raised my confidence with the brand and I appreciate that they made good on their word to make sure I was satisfied with the experience. This boosted my review a star since it made for a risk free, hassle free, net positive experience even though I didn't keep the product.Original review (October 2017):I was new to betta fish ownership and bought this tank due to the good reviews. It has been about 8 months now and I have learned a few things that have made me less happy with this purchase. I thought I'd share what happened so new buyers and betta fish owners can take these lessons into account when deciding to buy.I bought two of these tanks and used them for about 8 months for two new bettas I purchased. One of the tanks came with two scratches that I thought were superficial, but they eventually deepened and grew so I no longer use it for fear of leaks. The other tank is fine. One of the LED lights no longer works even after a battery change. Therefore, I cannot recommend these tanks for durability. One of my fish ended up committing suicide and jumped out of the feeding hole, which was terrible. The other one did well, but after about six months, he grew lethargic and never moved anywhere. After a lot of online research, I identified the problem. He was simply too large for his tank. In the 7 months since I purchased him, he TRIPLED in size. He no longer swam about and was just sad in his tank (no signs of illness or water quality issues). I have since moved the betta into a 2.5 gallon tank with a heater, sponge corner filter, and thermometer. Within 2 days, the betta was happier than I've ever seen him. He never stops moving, his color is vibrant, and he builds large bubble nests. Folks, I never saw this behavior in the 1 gallon tank.In summary, here are the lessons I learned:1. If you choose this tank, be prepared to change 80-100% of the water every 2-3 days. In such a small system, toxic ammonia will build up and your fish's health will decline if you don't keep up good maintenance. Do not expect to put more than a single betta in this tank. It is too small.2. Consider covering the hole over the feeding area because one of my fish did jump out and suffocate.3. If your tank comes with superficial scratches, RETURN IT. They won't stay superficial and it will eventually become unusable as it did for me.4. The LED light won't necessarily last.5. Be prepared to buy a larger tank. I now use the 1 gallon as a hospital tank and as a bucket for water changes. I just wasn't happy with the maintenance required and how inactive my fish was.I am not happy with this purchase. I had scratches on one, it wasn't safe for jumping bettas, and it ended up not being a suitable habitat for a fish long term. I cannot recommend this product with the problems I had and the unsuitability it ended up being for my betta.

Simple tank, easy to clean
Perfect starter tank. Your Betta will be happy and have plenty of room to swim around. The light is enough to light the entire tank and is very handy in that you can have it either on top of the tank or the bottom. The light also takes batteries or you can plug it in. It does not come with a cable to hook up to the light but it is the same micro USB you have laying around the house to charge your android phone.Be nice to you fish and get them some plants to hide in. The tank does not come with any plants, rocks or filter so you will need to get them separate. The rocks and plants are cheap and they will certainly enrich the life or your fish.Without a filter the tank does get cloudy. This is normal for a tank without a filter. Your betta will be fine without a filter as they swim to the top to get air but they do need a clean tank. I tend to clean my tank about once every two weeks. If you over feed and your food settles at the bottom you will need to claim about every week. Cleaning is very easy. I just grab a glass and scoop Morty into it and set him on the counter. I empty the rocks and plants into a strainer and rinse them without any soap as you may have residue that will harm your fish. I use a cloth or paper towel and get all the surfaces clean so they dont seem slimy. Let your water sit for a bit before putting your fish back to avoid shock. You will also want to get water conditioner specifically designed for your betta.Good product, this will give you a happy fish!!
