Judy & Brad Niemeyer have designed a new foundation paper piecing tree skirt. Floating spikes, floating geese, curved piecing, traditional piecing and template layout sheets are all design elements used to create this tree skirt for foundation paper piecing.

It Just Takes A Lot If Time
I have never paper pieced anything this elaborate before. I took someone's advice and put the directions in a binder. I put a swatch of fabric where it has a space for you to do so. And I bagged the actual foundation pieces into ziplock bags. I also bagged the small pieces after cutting them. Everything is in a box, including the fabric so I can pick right back up on it as I have to finish a quilt that I was making. This skirt will be beautiful when I'm finished. I plan to have it custom quilted.

Must be organized!
Judy's patterns make some BEAUTIFUL quilts. The instructions can be intimidating at first, so you must be organized and read thoroughly before beginning. I found that a 1/2" binder with sleeves helps immensely. I cut the directions into individual pages and place them into the sleeves, and put the cover picture into the sleeve on the cover of the binder. Take one step at a time, organizing your pattern pieces and fabric cuts into freezer bags using binder clips to keep pieces together. And don't forget to clip a swatch of your fabrics and glue them to the guide she provides. I put that page in the sleeve on the back of the binder. You'll be glad you were organized and you'll have a fabulous quilt when you're done! I've used other designer's paper piecing patterns, and they weren't nearly as organized, not to mention some of them don't include pre-printed foundation papers. You're stuck tracing the pattern yourself. Now that's a real pain.
