2013 Greatest Pop & Movie Hits: The Biggest Hits * The Greatest Artists (Easy Piano)

This is a nice selection of recent popular songs and TV/Movie themes. The 18 "hits" included are a reasonable selection from 2013. One might quibble over the choices, but that's why checking the contents list is important. This collection was arranged by Dan Coates in "easy piano" form. I've have some other song books that used his arrangements, and they are certainly suitable for the moderately experienced musician who simply wants to have access to a few contemporary songs. The music is set at a fairly large size, which is handy for the musician who needs reading glasses with notation in smaller sizes. As with most song books, the glued binding is somewhat annoying, but a variety of paper clamps will overcome the tendency for the book to "snap shut" while trying to change pages. (Hint: for some of the pieces I wish to play more frequently, I make copies so I can tape the sheets together to make a long single page...)

I loved all the songs in this book, but my only complaint is that most of them are clearly not meant for piano music. The harmony is repetitive and would be better benefited by a guitar or bass line. Recommend this for 2nd or 3rd level year piano students (I've been playing for about 10 years and this was a very easy set).

I enjoy playing the piano so much, and always look for Dan Coates Easy piano. I wanted to be able to play some of the more recent popular music. This is the perfect book! My daughters are also learning to play, and hearing Mom play songs they sing along to on the radio encourages them to keep up their lessons.

Great book with thoughtful arrangements. The arrangements are intermediate. This actually works well for me, because I like to do my own improvised arrangements on pop tunes.

I bought this because I need to learn more current songs. The stuff I like to play is older: John Denver, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Glen Campbell. After getting it, I listened to the tuned on YouTube to see which would interest me. Now, my idea of simple chords are major, minor, and (dominant) 7th. Guess what:This book doesn't have any 7th chords at all. All is not lost, though: for the songs that interest me, I can just get better chords off the internet, and write them above the music.

Pros:Once you know your chords and scales, this is a perfect next step!Cons:Must know chords, scales and notes well.

Easy music for a simple player.

We were looking for pop music at a beginner level, and this book isn't too bad. It's definitely not for absolute beginners - my daughter has taken lessons for three years, she's 10, and is at about Grade 2 level and this is just barely within reach - maybe a smidge too hard, but she'll be up for it within six months or so. I like that it's just two lines - right and left hand - so it's a full piece that sounds like the song when you play it, not just accompany music for a singer. Most songs do involve hand shifts, complex rhythms on the right hand, and multiple pages (about six pages each).Still, this is one of the few books we ordered online that is remotely possibly within my daughter's reach so it seems this is your best choice if you're looking to move beyond the usual piano exercise books into something more fun.

My teenage students love this book, it has a nice variety and the arrangements are well written by Dan Coates, as usual.

its one of those crap books that gives you only instrumental versions of songs
