Yea. Just type in nintendo switch controller cable. They're not expensive. Be careful though as the port on the joypad could be faulty now

Will this work in place of a pc controller for steam games etc?

I see no reason why it wouldn't, though not tested it myself, however trying it and returning it if it doesn't seems like your option, or buy one that's for PC compatability confirmed such as a xbox/PlayStation specific controller, as you run the risk of it not being compatible. If it helps a quick Google suggests that Nintendo has made it compatible.

You can. I have purchased this and seen people say you can't use the controller when the switch is not docked. You can, all you need is a USB A to USB C adapter. I've tested it on my switch playing fortnite and worked with no issues.
