My personal journey with The Pirata Series ends here
After having read the first book in the series I could not help but want more, so I coughed up the $2 and got part 2. As that book quickly came to a close I just bought the next 3 so I would not be interrupted again. The reason I enjoyed the series is because the main character, Telemachus is so likable. Even though he was on the wrong side of the law, his street smarts and cunning found a way through every obstacle he confronted and that made the story fun!Unfortunately the antagonist Hector somehow gets woven back into the plot line like a bad smell. He is just a bully who makes bad decisions and blames everyone else for it. I kept hoping Telemachus would simply outsmart him and leave him by the wayside so we could get on with the good bits. When Telemachus trusted Hector with his loot, I just couldn’t read any further.Sorry, Simon. Although I am a huge fan of all your other works, both the “nickel and dime” marketing strategy of Pirata and the mono dimensional antagonist Hector fall flat for me.

Excellent Scarrow
Scarrow once again portrays his ability to excite and confound his readers. This is just another series that he has as "once you start, you won't stop" type of read.

Swash and Buckel be what you want with Daring and Do? Here it is!
Pirates as they were, not romanticized, sail here on ancient seas . Mr. Scarrow writes tight stories set in violent times. The stories are gripping and about interesting people trying to do what is necessary to live in hard times. I enjoy his books.

Scarrow sold out his fans- very poor value and story telling
Having ready many of the Roman era books and really enjoyed them, I have found this series of very short episodes well below the standard of all his other books. Additionally, I will never be buying a book in 4 parts again - small parts at that. I read this 3rd book (chapter as that is all it amounted to ) in an hour and I do not believe I am a fast reader. Scarrow has (had?) a large loyal fan base - poorly written stories spread over 4 books/chapters that have to be bought separately over several months will not help his reputation. I feel conned over both the quality and the method of selling.

Interesting but Frustrating Book
The book is typically Simon Scarrow knowledgeable regarding roman methods but made into a work of fiction . Enjoyable but far too short. It is obviously a concept to partition the book and sell it as a few chapters each with a mini plot to get a higher price. I would rather buy a complete book and may not buy any more short stories. Very Frustrating to read!

Plodding
This story seemed to be a struggle for the author, a pedestrian read not as good as the first two alas!

Disappointing
I am a massive fan of Simon Scarow but been disappointed with this. Not up to his standard, so I will not be buying the next installment.

Avoid
Refer to comments on Pt 2 - not a second book in the series but only a portion of one book. If you must, just buy the novel but avoid any part with a number as these are all parts of the same book. Not the next book in the series.
