I think it's a good investment
I'll admit that I have a hard time feeling if my kid's toes are near the end of their shoes, so measuring them seems to be the only way I can get a good idea if they have outgrown their shoes or not. At the same time, I sometimes feel pressured to buy shoes if I take them into a children's shoe store to get measured. This tool allows me to easily measure their feet before we head out to the store in order to make sure that they haven't grown overnight on me.In order to get a truly accurate fit, it's more than just looking at the line where their longest toe ends up. There is also a device that you slide to the "ball" of the foot (behind the toes) that also gives a measurement - sometimes they aren't the same. Despite that, and the slide on the opposite side to determine the foot width, it's easy to use and for the $$ spent, I feel a bit better about being able to tell on my own if the kids need new shoes or not.It is made of plastic (so it's lightweight) but I also have to make sure that my 4 year old doesn't get his hands on it and start playing with it. It's not flimsy, but it's certainly not as durable as the metal ones that you often see in a shoe store.

convenience of "doing it at home" makes it worth every penny!
I have 2 children that I planned to use this for - I should've bought this long ago. Its so convenient to be able to measure my children's feet at home! I shop online as much as possible to save time (time is at a premium at my house). You can use it to measure both left & right - but additionally it can be used to measure the width of your child's foot. It comes with directions for how to correctly use it, as many store employees do it incorrectly. FYI - This device is made of plastic, not metal. It is sturdy, good quality plastic and I'm sure it will last well beyond the time I'll need it.

Tired of guessing shoe sizes around here
I finally tired of guessing my kids shoe sizes since I order all their shoes online. This thing is great. Measures perfectly and allows me to pick the right sizes for each of my kids. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it's made of plastic and not metal. But that's why the price is cheaper. All in all, completely satisfied.

This device is Wonderful for correct measurements for kids' feet and the correct shoe size to buy!
This arrived a bit earlier which was nice. The device is sturdy and well made, and looks nice. I learned a lot about measuring a child's foot (or even an adult's foot) correctly in order to be able to purchase the right shoe size. I feel very confident that I will be much more successful in buying shoes for my grandchildren - just looking at their feet, it looks like they would wear the same size, but after reading the directions and explanation that came with the measuring device, I did measure both children and found to my surprise that they definitely do not wear the same size. I thought these were only available to stores that sold shoes, so I was very happily surprised to find this was available for home use. I recommend it especially if you have small children and can use it for several years. Mine are 4 and 6 but wear the same size in clothing and, as I said, just looking at their feet side-by-side, it looked like they should wear the same size shoe; now I know better!!

Plastic, but useful - How much are shoes?
Wish we would have gotten it sooner. Wife still annoyed that shoe manufacturers have different sizes with the same label. Can't fix that with this, but at least we have a consistent baseline. With two kids I think it will pay for itself in two sets of shoes (cheaper prices on-line). It's not the heavy metal one, but it has the T-bar slider. I don't think they make the metal kids one with T-bar anymore (it was apparently red).

Lousy
The previous reviewer who gave this product 1 star was right. This product is all plastic, which itself is not bad but when our family placed our order in March of 2011 the product description here on amazon clearly stated "Made of Metal."Since that time the company has changed the description to take out their lying claim that it is made of metal. (Hey, it's easier than just keeping your promise and delivering a product actually made of metal, right?)So, it's made of plastic, we were duped, and it's REALLY CHEAP plastic. The description of the product has been changed to "Made of Lexan." What's Lexan? Plastic. Seems that this company is bent on making sure they mislead people about their cheap plastic product. Don't know why. Some companies are just inherently dishonest, I guess. This shoe sizer couldn't possibly cost more than one or two dollars to make, so $55 is a complete and total rip-off. Of course they know that, which is why the tell you lies about it being made from metal or Lexan. They don't want to admit it's made of plastic and are purposely trying to mislead consumers. Why two stars? It measures feet. That claim is true.

Ultra Fit Jr Brannock Device
Ultra Fit Jr Brannock Device was used to measure my grandson's feet accurately and we had to give away three new shoes and buy him a new pair of school shoes. It saved his feet from poor measurements at the shoe store and from probably deformed feet. The price of the device was well worth it, knowing his correct show size. Buying the device also was an education on how to properly measure a child's feet. It was easy and a very short learning curve. The service provided by the company was very professional, item came on time and securely packaged.
