Advanced Drawing of Scrolls: For Engraving Artists, Designers, Craftsmen Hardcover – January 1, 2007

Love this book. It is a huge help with my scroll drawing. I got it used and it was like brand new. Still cracked when I opened it.A must book for some one looking to learn about drawing scrolls of many kinds.

My husband lived this book as an engraver! When he posted he received this highly coveted gift on his engraving blog some members asked him to post some pictures of the pages. He didn’t but it goes to show how loved this book is in the engraving world!

I love this resource guide

This book is only marginally useful (at best) for learning how to draw scrolls. Most of the text of the book is the author lamenting about modern society, today’s children/teenagers, his relationship with Jesus, and a bunch of other topics that really have absolutely nothing at all, whatsoever with understanding how to design scrollwork.I honestly don’t understand what the point of the book is. He doesn’t really explain the construction of the scroll in very much detail, nor the differences between the various “types” of scrollwork. He mentions different types VERY briefly, but certainly not with enough explanation as to how to design in each style.There really aren’t that many exercises of worth in the book. They are scattered here and there, but they are extremely rudimentary and really not very useful at all.I will probably sell my copy soon. I’ve already read through the two or three pages of text that actually pertain to scroll design and the rest are pictures of work the author did at some point and a bunch of colt army single action profiles if you want to practice designing to engrave those. I have zero interest in that, so most of the book is pretty much worthless to me. He rambles on for somewhere around FORTY PAGES whining about how you should always do the best work you can and you’ll offend Jesus, God, and him if you don’t. That’s what I got out of it. That and engravers don’t charge enough for the work they do.I believe this book was a waste of money and I will be selling it off soon. I bought this book to learn how to properly draw scrolls...not to be preached at by some random engraver that’s full of himself.

Very well written. Learned a lot from it. As a beginner I recommend this book
