I ordered 5 or 6 of these kits after finding a substantial amount of aluminum in a hair test. Test 1: Naturally, I tested my urine. The results were indiscernible between 0-.01, but as far as I could tell weren't .05. Test 2: I tested a can of carbonated water that was shaken for about 30 minutes that had sat at room temperature since purchase for ~3 months. Same results. Test 3: I tested water from the reverse osmosis system after being boiled down in my standard cookware to a little more than the test tube volume. Same results. Test 4: I took a bowl of reverse osmosis water and used my Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) meter to test the solids in the water. There were 25ppm of solids (minerals, etc.), which is about 10% of what the tap water itself tests at - this is normal. I then placed aluminum foil in the bowl moderately crinkled up to maximize water-to-foil contact, covered with foil, let it sit for several days, then microwaved it. Once done, the TDS tested at 124ppm. Since adding 100ppm of guaranteed aluminum to the water, I tested again. This time the results tested between .2-.3ppm... Yet I have ample evidence to support that the test should've been darker than dark purple. Test 5: I tested distilled water with 0 (zero) TDS, meaning there is absolutely no possibility that there could be any aluminum in the water - I got the same results as the first three tests. I saved each test and compared results from one to another and couldn't tell a difference in most. I should've taken a picture to post here. Needless to say, this test kit is completely worthless, since it didn't even register 1% of the verified aluminum in the water. It was fun while it lasted and gave the kids a good science lesson, so maybe not COMPLETELY worthless, but definitely worthless if any valid aluminum test results are desired.

Unclear if this test kit works or not. Nothing shows up on results despite having evidence of copper staining in sinks. Not worth the money if you are interested in really understanding the amount of copper in your water

This test is reminiscent of old soil test kits and does require reading the directions several times and a steady hand, The strip is supposed to react only to the gases in the tube and not get wet and touching side of test tube so be careful to bend it or position it correctly. My 2018 result was 30 ug/L or 0.03 ppm which is about what I expected and certainly what I hope for since the instruction sheet suggests that anything between 50 and 200 ug/L would be a matter of concern. The reason I took this test is that I eat rice at every meal. Also, I have turmeric and greens and vegetables with every meal which supposedly counteracts any effects of arsenic. Anyway, I feel I am in the clear to continue my healthy whole plant food diet with plenty of rice with no worries. I repeated the test again in 2025 and results were similar. I ignored advice to use first morning urine on the second test so I could get specimen as close as possible to the largest rice meal. The result was slightly higher As...maybe 40 to 50...see pics. This useful information was on the Osumex web site and claims this is an accurate test, but read more. In very small amounts arsenic may even be essential and functional in humans. Organic arsenic as arsenates and elmental arsenic both found naturally in the earth and in foods do not readily produce toxicity. The inorganic arsenites or tivalent forms of arsenic, such as arsenic trioxide used industrially and found as a food contaminate, seem to create the problems. They accumulate in the body, particularly in the skin, hair, and nails, but also in internal organs. Arsenic can accumulate when kidney function is decreased. Absorption of arsenic is fairly low, usually less than 5 percent. Most of it is eliminated in the feces and some in the urine. "

Basic, but not well executed in packaging and design. The three reagents mini tubes were so wedged into the test tube I had to use a thin sharp object to pry the top one up enough to grip and hoped in the process the red cap didn’t come off, spilling the reagent. Once I got that one out, they were unjammed and the other two tumbled out. Then, the picture shows a small amount of specimen in the bottom but instructions said 10ml which is basically a full test tube- (but markings a little difficult to read unless you tilt is just right in the right light…and when it’s full of urine and you’re trying to read if you have enough or not, tilting it is not the best thing… Adding the first reagent, I didn’t see anything go into the test tube and looked like there was still a some left in in the reagent tube- had to tap it upside down to get its measly 2 drops out and a little got onto the counter and not into the tube. The second reagent seemed to almost be thicker and not coming out at all- had to use a toothpick to try and get it out and into the test tube. The 3rd chemical seemed to come out more easily, but I had zero confidence that I was able to get the full amount of all three into the test tube, and thus get an accurate result.

Waste of money, hard to use and unclear instructions. I tried to use this test to test myself for arsenic exposure and instead I ended up just throwing the thing away. They only give you "ONE" test strip! I mean come on not even an extra one in case you do get it wet.

This test isn't worth the time or money. The instructions are incomplete; I followed them exactly and it was Ineffective.

The fluids from the small test tube you are supposed to mix into the larger one won't come out. A Chemistry A'level student tried and failed.

Fairly straight-forward to use if you are careful and follow the instructions methodically. The kit contains instructions for testing both liquids and solids. It is a bit fiddly to agitate the solution without getting the test strip wet (it detects gas given off by the solution and so must be kept dry).

This expensive kit is useless. The three 'acid' solutions are contained in small phials that can only be emptied by vigorous shaking which makes it impossible to fully transfer the liquids to the test tube. Furthermore the colour test strip covers a range from 0.2 to 2.0 ppm whereas the EPA Action level is 15 ppb so the kit cannot indicate low but still dangerous levels of lead.
