a big game changer from the anime
as a continue reading fro Vol 11 where normally the anime should have ended this volume expands more on the story after the bloody battle of the north and its result this chapter of the story introduces us to a new cast of characters .enter the new blood a rising generation of battle hardened claymore that tries to prove that they are better then ones of old as the story now interestingly shifts after quite a long time from the last big battle that things are looking differently from those like me who followed the anime .also first time i see the 47 of the new generation as she is the new face of the story that was at the same rank as Claire and her quest with the organisation as they try to assess the conditions and heavy blows after the last grand battle .for those who saw the anime first i highly recommend following up with the manga as i was totally enjoying the new things im discovering in this volume .amazing art and spectacular panels as always .

Meet a new generation of Claymores...
This is the twelfth book in the Claymore series. It was well done and starts 7 years after volume 11 ended; dealing with a whole new generation of Claymore. In this book we follow Rafaela as she travels to battle her sister Luciela of the South. Then we follow the new 47, Clarice as she travels to the far north with some other Claymore to battle a pack of Awakened Ones. There we find out what happened to Clare and her fellow warriors and get a flashback into the last moments of that battle 7 years ago.As normal there is a lot of fighting Awakened Ones. We are introduced to new Claymore and their special fighting abilities. I was a bit distressed to find Clare and her fellow warriors completely absent from the story, but fear not they come into play later in the book.I thought the battle between Rafaela and Luciela was a bit anti-climatic and that is all I will say about that.We meet the new number 47 Claymore and her name is Clarice. She is surprisingly inciteful, but weak in the fighting arena (as expected of a number 47). We also meet a very unstable single digit Claymore named Miata that Clarice is charged with working with. Riful of the West makes another appearance as well. The storyline has started to get a bit complicated for this series; with multiple storylines and different groups of characters that we follow. However that being said there is always a little blurb about the story so far at the beginning of each book which is a big help. There is also a blurb at the end reminding the reader of unanswered questions and events to be covered in the next volume. The only downside to this series has been that sometimes I have trouble keeping all of the different Claymore straight. They all look very similar and now that we are jumping between different groups I am struggling a bit to keep all the names, faces, and events straight. It would be awesome if they had a grid of faces/names of Claymore at the beginning of the book so that I could cross reference when I get confused (this is something the Fables series does and it really helps to keep everyone straight).Overall an excellent installment in this series. I like where the storyline is going and enjoy the complexity of it. I do have some trouble keeping all of the different Claymore straight since they look so similar, but I am still able to pick out the important characters. I am eager to see where this story goes next. I definitely recommend this series to all the lovers of fantasy manga out there.

I wish it was in the show
I really hate the fact that the anime series ended where it did I think this could have at least been 2 more seasons

Amazing
Claymore is a manga about Yoma who pretend to be human in order to kill and eat the humans. The Claymore are the hybrid of the two stronger faster but still human with the ability to slay the Yoma which they do for a price. They travel from village to village slaying Yoma with nothing but the sword on their back using the Yoma abilities but slowly turning into a monster that they hunt. When the time comes a Claymore will send a black card to another claymore to be slain before the Yoma takes over and so they die as a human. In the 12th installment 7 years have passed the 24 claymore perished in the battle against the awakened beings. Only seven survived but in doing so they had to fake their own deaths knowing the organization would be after them otherwise. They spent the seven years training together to be a lethal team but the time has come for Clare to find Raki and seek the revenge she very much deserves from Pricilla. While in hiding the abyssal beings have been fighting each other, new claymores had to be created to replace those they lost one young claymore who’s weak unlike the others has taken over Clare’s spot. Will she survive to become a powerful claymore or just another pray for Yoma. Will Clare find Raki?I like Clare she’s a sword carrying slayer who isn’t afraid to die charging in risking her life. She may not survive every encounter but that doesn’t stop her from doing what has to be done protecting the humans. While most Claymore’s wouldn’t allow Raki to tag along she accepts him and maybe it’s partly because they are kindred but he needs her and she him to keep her humanity. I find Clare to be an intriguing character and can’t wait to see more about her back story as well as what’s going to happen next. We are given a little back story on Clare which introduces us to Teresa a Claymore whose life was changed by Clare.I’ve seen all of the episodes on Netflix a few years ago actually binge watched them over a long weekend. I love the concept for the Claymore the hybrids created using parts from the monsters that they have been created to fight. While I am familiar with the story it’s interesting to see it play out as I read it. The art is great it gives me just enough to create the story in my head as I read each detailed page. This is only my 2nd manga so I don’t have a lot to go on but so far I’m super exited to read the series. Claymore is a fast paced loaded with action series that is captivating right from the start hard to put down till the last page. Can’t wait to start the next one in the series they just keep getting better. I feel like a voracious Reader because I can’t get enough.

A transitionary volume
This is an odd volume, really. Readers who, like me, have come to the manga after experiencing the anime will be pleased (or possibly alarmed!) to find that, with this instalment, there are some significant changes to the format and cast of the series. This volume starts by tidying up one or two loose ends from the previous one. The battle between Isley and Luciela is finished reasonably speedily and Luciela's background is explored before being resolved in a way that raises all sorts of questions about just what happens to a Claymore emotionally when she crosses her limit and becomes an Awakened One.The real corker, though, is the seven year jump into the future. I'm not going to give too much away here, but the jump does afford Nohiro Yagi the opportunity to explain the final moments of the Battle for Pieta without actually having to show them and, thus, invite a series of awkward questions as to their plausability. It works and the interplay between the seven survivors of Pieta is nicely done. We're also introduced to a new batch of Claymores and given considerably greater insight into the inner workings of the Organization, all of which serve to deepen our understanding of the Claymore 'universe' and, presumably, set us up for the volumes to come. The artwork is of a customarily high standard, although the pacing of the story does suffer a little because of the new elements being introduced. Still good, though, and still recommended.

Seven years later
This twelfth volume of the Claymore manga reveals some of the backstory of the Claymore Rafaela and the Creature of the Abyss Luciela as well as revealing the result of the fight between Luciela and Isley. Once this is over the story fast forwards seven years to a time when a whole new generation of Claymores are fighting to defeat the Yoma and the result of the battle of Pieta is reviled. This is a good volume but it is more about setting things up for the future storyline than anything else, introducing new characters and giving a little exposition about the current state of affairs in the world of Claymore. Despite this there are a couple of good fights and some of the new characters could prove to be interesting. Overall this is a good volume that sets things up well for the future.
