An interesting read, but something missing!!!
I read several books a year about great sports people in American sports history. This book about Shaq is a good one if you are looking for the stats he compiled during his long career in the NBA. I am beginning to give four star ratings to books that leave out more in depth delving into the personal lives of the athletes. I just read about Terry Bradshaw's career and little was said about his married life. I think these type books should blend in as they go about the things that happened to these super stars in their persoanl lives. I read this book constantly thinking about how Shaq compared to Wilt Chamberlain. To me, Wilt was more athletic and accomplished things that will never be equaled in the NBA. Wilt averaged 50 points a game one year and no one will ever do that again. He also led the league in assists one year when asked to do so by his coach. Kareem Abdul Jabbar was also more athletic than Shaq, but Shaq certainly had a career he can be most proud. I do enjoy his sense of humor when I see him on TV and thank the auhtor for beinging out that aspect of Shaq. All in all, this is a good book and I recommend it to readers who want to know more about this great player.Dr. Norman Jones, author of Growing Up in Indiana: The Culture & Hoosier Hysteria Revisited.

Great book if you love basketball!
When you think of the most dominant big men in the NBA, who comes to mind? Most people would agree upon Shaquille Rashaun O’Neal. As he was growing up, this wasn’t always the case for him. In this book, one can learn of the hardships that Shaquille goes through. He wasn’t always a talented player, but he put in the work that was needed to become proficient. This book reflects on Shaq’s younger years and how he had to earn his role on his school team. It also shows that he did not give up on the thing he was most passionate about. This story covers his dominant NBA career and his time as an ESPN host. It also covers his struggles with his teammates and how he overcomes them. He eventually ends up winning 4 Championships, has one of the best NBA careers, and makes the hall of fame. The main character of the book is Shaq. He is a very hard working person and has a passion for basketball. He also is a very funny and smart guy. In college, he had the highest GPA on the team. He is not afraid of a challenge. An example is when he had a teammate who was better than him, but Shaq put in more work and earned his way into the starting lineup. Another character is Shaq’s Stepfather. He was a soldier and trained Shaq since his real father wasn’t around. He always pushed young Shaq to do his best and never give up. He was very strict and didn’t let Shaq make excuses. The theme of this story is to work vigorously at what you yearn for. Don’t let small, inconvenient things ruin your passion for something. One also has to work towards their dreams. Always strive to be better than the one above you and to put in the effort necessary to become the best. We can also learn to push pass grudges we have with people. One saying that I like that can be applied to this book is that hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.I really enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend this book if you are looking for inspiration to fulfill your dreams. It can inspire you to not give up what you're passionate about. If you like statistics I would also recommend this book, because there's a lot of stats. The structure of the book is also well put together. If you are a fan of basketball, this book is great!
