Great toy ... emphasizes reading and motor skills for toddlers with creating the LEGO characters!!
Love this combo toy...a little pricey I think but you get all the pieces for the characters and the story book to go with it....I have 3 of them to use with my students!!

Great for the right age group
If your kid is old enough to be interested in putting things together, but still too small for more complex model, this is great way to introduce them to the concept of following an assembly manual. Which is what most Lego models do these days.Yes, you can use generic Lego (or Duplo) blocks to build pretty much anything, but that is for MUCH older kids. The point of this series is to introduce the idea of following a drawn chart of assembly to build a small figurine.Hence the number of parts is small, the models are simple.I put the parts together by placing them on the appropriate (and properly sized!) place as drawn in the bookand then snap them together. My kid loves this, also loves to play with the resulting toys, which are - this a Lego staple - reasonably durable. He tries sometime to build them himself and with time he will succeed. As for the story - I don't read the book. I make up my own commentary (if any). You can use the text in the book for ideas, but you don't have to read it literally, you can (and probably should) use your own words. The version of this series that have animals are better, but this is still great.

More fun than I expected
I love these little lego books! Perfect for my 2 1/2 year old, we have a few of them. This one is quite cute, and the traits of the prince and princess are not gender typical which is pretty cool if you are trying to raise your kids to not be stuck in a gender stereotype. My son can mostly build them by looking at the pictures but it does provide a bit of a challenge for him now and we help him out some. We try to reserve these for nights when we make it through the bedtime routine early, but he is usually upset when it is time to put them away. He enjoys using the story book as a jumping off point for his own imagination. Last week we had a wedding for princess jake and his beautiful dragon bride.

Unexpected twist in the story
I didn't want to buy this one because well, we don't really do the whole princess 'damsel in distress' storylines around here. And you can look at it and imagine that the prince saves the princess from the dragon or something. BUT.. actually the princess is described as strong and she jumps in and builds the tower. Anyways, I'm happier with this purchase now that we've read it than I was just buying it. As a concept, it's perfect as my 3yo is very into books and not really into imaginative play. So, it's been a great way for me to reinforce imaginative play using something she loves - books. We have 3 sets of these 'read and build' and it's hard for me not to buy the other 2 because they are pretty fun.

4 year old played with for 3 hours straight.
I did not have high expecations for this item, but My 4 year old duaghter loves it. She played with it for 3 hours. I read the short book to her countless times and then she used the pieces and made up her own story. I also loved the packaking and the pieces and blocks fit perfectly into a resuable container. I was concerned how I would keep the pieces with the book and the package solved the problem.

She has enjoyed playing with the duplo bricks and reading the board ...
I purchased this for my 16 month old daughter because she was interested in her older siblings Legos. She has enjoyed playing with the duplo bricks and reading the board book, but is honestly still more interested in getting into the older kids' Lego stash. It's cute though and I'm happy with the purchase

Perfect duo!
I bought this for an amazing 3yr old for Christmas. She is at that perfect age where she loves to create and build things. Also loves to hear a good story. She is going to flip when she see this amazing duo that allows her to create the characters she is reading about.
