RevellCorsair F4U-4 1: 48 Scale, Green

I bought this for my grandfather’s birthday because this model is his favorite plane. Looks exactly like the picture he has hung up on his wall. Nice detail, definitely worth the price.

At 55 years old my husband decided that he would like to revisit his model building days from when he was in his teens/early 20s. He’s a marine veteran and had hand picked out two items from Amazon that he really wanted for Christmas and this was one of them. He is a very picky person and he was delighted and thrilled with the quality and I was thrilled with the price and how quickly I received the item. Highly recommend ordering/buying from this seller!

I actually bought this back in 2016. I also just finally got around to putting it together. Only took 9 years lol. And since when did plastic models become so expensive?!I’m 52, and going to the track every weekend to go drag racing for the last 30 years was getting more difficult, so I’m finished with that chapter of my life and back into building models. I’ve owned many Revell kits, and I built them until I was about 18. Until now. So, I decided I’d start with this last weekend. I had never built their Corsair before, but I was tired of seeing it laying around on the shelf with an inch of dust on the box and paints.It’s Revell as I remember it. Lots of flash, poorly fitting parts, copious amounts of putty, and a lot of sanding. Lots of sanding lol. To be fair, while the box art is from 2012, there is a date stamped into one half of the fuselage that says 1963. That’s 10 years before I was born.Overall, it’s not a great a kit. Revell has had a history of being hit or miss on the 1/48 scale planes. If your expectation is this spectacular little warbird all done up when you finish, then you should probably spend your money on Tamiya’s version. If you don’t mind that, and/or if you have the talent, it’s possible to make this come out decently. This kit will try your patience for sure. The little pilot is almost impossible to paint very well without a magnifier. The wings you may as well glue in the down position, and the canopy fit is terrible. It’s not Revell at its finest for sure. But it only takes about 8 hours to build it and, with an airbrush, it comes out alright. What’s the saying? Good from far, but far from good. I’ll try the Tamiya version next. If you take this warbird on, to which I’d still recommend giving it a go, just have realistic expectations for a stamped kit so old as this.

Revell proves the parts to build the plane as a night fighter, not mentioned in the narrative. It has multiple simple features to build various aircraft. The landing gear tires will spin if you melt or cap the axle prior to gluing the tire halve together. A nice weekend build.

Was bought for my nephew for Christmas present so I am sure he will love it

Seems to me that there are 3 kinds of people who buy Revell kits.A: A person who remembers Revell fondly from their childhood.B: People who are new to modeling who don't want to spend a lot of money starting out.And finally, C: People who don't mind putting in a bunch of extra work to get a decent looking model.If you fall into category C and don't mind breaking out the putty and rubber bands to get a decent looking finished result, then you've arrived at the right place. If you fall under category A, and you built this kit as a kid, then for you it's a labor of love and nothing I say here will matter anyway.However, if you fall into category B, then I strongly suggest you save up your money and pick up a Tamiya model to get started with. I started out with back to back Revell kits, and was about ready to throw my paints away when I found a discounted Tamiya armor kit. After that first Tamiya build I caught myself saying "So...this is what it's actually supposed to be like." You have to remember that these are old kits. They are nostalgic for those folks who have been modeling long enough to remember when Revell was pretty much the only name in the game.After I got a few Tamiya kits under my belt, I came back to the Revell kits. I'm glad I did. For the price you really can't complain too much, and by then I had a better idea how to deal with all the flash and poor fitment problems that come with these kits. I guess what I'm trying to say is that starting out with Revell kits very nearly caused me to stop building because I was so frustrated. That's why I have a hard time suggesting this kit for anyone who is just getting started. Now that I'm beginning to get the hang of it, I rather enjoy the challenge.The Corsair is a fine kit, especially if you start out saying to heck with the folding wings and just glue them stationery. As far as Revell kits go I'd say this one is a bit better than I expected. Still, lots of putty, some cursing, and a few rubber bands never hurts.

It was a birthday present for my 9 year old grandson. He and his 11 year old brother put it together and painted it. He said on a video..he loves it. Very cute! Thank you!🎆
