Stud Finder Wire Detector, 5 in 1 Stud Detector with Intelligent Microprocessor Chip, HD LCD Display and Audio Alarm, Accurate and Fast Location for The Center and Edge of Metal, Studs : desertcart.co.uk: DIY & Tools Review: Amazing stud finder tool!!!! - I purchased the TH410 and I have to say it has been absolutely invaluable. I work in engineering and need a reliable stud finder but this unit can find metal, AC as an all in one unit and the accuracy is amazing. The guys I work with have also bought the same unit and love it. This stud finder is an essential part of the toolbox. Review: Finally got that picture up! - I'd been delaying hanging a moderately heavy picture, as the walls in the spare bedroom are stud & plasterboard over breezeblock, and we'd had trouble with shelf fixings in the past. Got some Easyfix plasterboard fixings (from Screwfix, since you ask), but then had the problem that they tend to snap if you accidentally hit a stud. Added to that, we weren't sure if the electrical wires came in from ceiling to floor or floor to socket. This nifty gizmo answered both questions in seconds. It's easy to switch from one setting to another, and clear where the studs are - it even tells you the width of the stud. It's trickier on textured wallpaper, but you can put a thin sheet of card underneath to help the finder glide smoothly. Job done safely, and in under 30 mins (which is a record in our house)!

FABULOUS GADGET
I am a very busy foster carer and we have had numerous children in our carer. We have constant turnovers of children, with the result that according to each child's needs, different shelves need to be installed as well as posters, picture frames need to be moved etc. Recently we had a lot of DIY as three bedrooms had to be redone. It was so reassuring to know that when I drill into the wall, I have peace of mind knowing that I will not accidentally drill into live wires. This is all thanks to the Stud finder wire detector purchased from yourselves. I am a technophobe,. but found the item brilliant and easy to use. It has made my DIY life a lot easier. Will highly recommend to others.

Disappointed
I bought this to help me find studs in my new house for mounting heavy mirrors, tvs etc. Sadly this didnt work at all. It would constantly say there was a stud when there wasn't, and also say there wasn't when I knew there was as I had images of the building before the walls went on. I wanted to return this but sadly I lost it shortly after moving in and realising it was not very good. I think as it was so poor, I have thrown it in a box knowing I wont be using it, and it has gone in the bin.

Great piece of kit
A sensibly-priced, accurate and useful device for finding studs, pipes and cables within walls. You need to practise using it on areas where you know there are studs or pipes/cables until you get a โfeelโ for what the machine is telling you. Like all good tools, it takes experience and skill to fully understand what the machine is telling you. I bought it to find the wooden battens behind plasterboard over a brick wall. It turned out that there were no battens, just blobs of plaster holding the plasterboard against the bricks. A few minutes with the stud detector and I discovered the plaster blobs and realised there were no battens - an amazing tool.

Accuracy and ease of use
Having read the instruction sheet, together with a practice of the stud finder I found this item very easy to use and from what I remembered of the construction of my extension it proved very accurate in finding studs/metal plastering corner strips. It was a bit trickier to find the electrical wires, but looking at fault finding and following the instructions again I found that it was also accurate in finding the AC wires. In the original 1930's part of the house the stud finder picked up electrical wires perfectly. Very easy to use. Very happy with my purchase.

Cannot find A/C cables
The TH410 Wall Stud Finder comes with detailed instructions that should be read carefully. It is also worth practicing on areas where you know what is in the wall to become familiar with how the unit operates. One significant concern is that the unit seems incapable of detecting AC wiring, even putting it next to a mains cable connected to a lit electric light generated no response, so no chance of detecting anything inside a wall. Instead set it to metal mode, it does then detect metal where the electric cables are in the wall.
