Good budget choice.
Bought with conical stylus for playing old mono classical LPs as conical supposed to be less noisy. Not sure about that but this does the job fine and turns out it does really well with 70’s prog rock - gives a real solid full-bodied sound and still quite detailed.

Perfect
Perfect additional head and cartridge for my AT-LP120 turntable. Easy to fit and well made. No complaints here.

A safe bet with lots of upgrade potential
This is a great entry level cartridge that offers the potential for some interesting upgrades in the future. I'm a bit of a supporter of the vinyl format because I like the opportunity to try out different things like cartridges. I have a Technics SL1500C turntable and was intrigued to learn that Technics were to fit this cartridge to the forthcoming SL100C, I was surprised as this was to my mind a very definite downgrade to the Ortofon 2M Red stock flitted to the 1500C. Normally I use my 1500 with a 2M Blue which is a big step up from the Red. My impression of the Audio Technica AT-VM95C is that actually its quite an easy listen, it does not have the detail and dynamics of the Ortofons but it does not suffer from as much end of side distortion as I might have expected from a conical stylus and it does have that mid range lift that you might traditionally expect from vinyl. What the AT-VMN95 cartridge offers is the ability to to upgrade to some quite exotic stylus profiles such as fine line and Shibata, an upgrade path that is not available with the Ortofons unless you buy a complete 2M Bronze package. So what at first sounds like an act of penny pinching by Technics might actually lead to greater opportunities to improve the sound of the turntable. If you own a turntable with a replaceable headshell then I think this is an interesting package to buy, it's a good safe bet without breaking the bank that could save you a stack of cash in the future by offering painless upgrades. In my mind, highly recommended. A first step on a possibly very interesting sonic journey.

Audio Technia VM95c/h
Bought this to replace the cartridge on my AT-LP 120 USB that had become faulty and based on reviews this seemed a good choice at reasonable price for full unit rather than try change the part head like some seem to sell and am very happy with the sound coming from my Technics HiFi after good few weeks of not using this deck.

Basic but works
Using this as I can upgrade at a later date. Swap between this and my ortofon, plus I can upgrade the stylus at a later date.

Part of VINYL history
At 84 I'm not just into vinyl and the C stylus is NOT made for STEREO at all but is a an OVAL shape for the 50's and 60's MONO 180 grm discs i.e. before STEREO existed. So if you own one of these and I have a few, put the C stylus on for one of these and discover just how good MONO RECORDINGS THEN WERE. Alan Ellis
