He shaped a few balsa surfboards and sold accessories like paraffin wax and vests he started gluing together from neoprene. When the vests started selling, Jack decided to go into the wetsuit business. The Surf Shop became a local gathering place, and the number of surfers began to grow. O'Neill flew in talented craftspeople like Phil Edwards to make boards, and wetsuit sales climbed. Soon surfers were riding more waves, and riding them better, in large measure because they could enjoy longer sessions in cold water thanks to Jack's neoprene suits. As Jack improved his wetsuit designs, surfers' territories expanded. Northern California became a year-round surf zone, and people were surfing New Hampshire and Rhode Island in January. Explorations and transplants to surf culture opened up Oregon, Washington, and Canada. Meanwhile, divers, water-skiers, snow-skiers, and windsurfers were wearing wetsuits. As business boomed, O'Neill relocated to a large manufacturing facility, and his surf shop has morphed into an international company, leading the world's wetsuit market and an innovator in beach lifestyle sportswear in the United States, Japan, and Europe. Jack's son Pat eventually assumed the CEO position, freeing Jack to surf, sail, and work at a variety of environmental projects. Besides a strong interest in saving the great white shark from extinction, Jack has also developed the O'Neill Sea Odyssey program -- a free, educational cruise aboard the Team O'Neill catamaran that acquaints kids with the microbiology of the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary.

Good product and great price!
I was able to score one of these from Amazon Warehouse deals for $70. I'm a novice surfer and bought the suit for the Spring/Fall. So far I've only used it in the summer early morning and afternoon but it keeps you very warm. This is my first wet suit so I don't really have anything to compare it to but my friend who surfs said it was a good buy at that price and that if I keep surfing, I'll eventually want something better. For now, the fit is great and it seems to do its job. For sizing, I'm 6 Feet 190 lbs with 41" Chest and 34" waist / 32" inseam and usually wear a size large t-shirt. I bought a Large and it seems to fit perfectly. It is snug but not too tight.O'Neil Sizing Guide:[...]

Great wetsuit for the price
The suit fits perfectly. I'm 5'10"-11" and 160 lbs and I ordered a medium black and blue, no sagging and full range of motion. Dries out pretty quick when I hang it in the shower. Dry enough to hang back in my closet within a day. For the price you can't beat it, keeps you warm and comfortable. Perfect amount of water is let in to make the suit work the way it should. I do notice water seeping through the seams but that was expected since it doesn't have the fancy seams more expensive suits have. The neck line doesn't chafe or itch at all. With the way it was packaged the suit was folded so it still has a crease from that but should go away in time. All in all I love this suit and it was a great price, I'd definitely recommend this suit to anybody looking to get a wetsuit.

Bought new came in used
This is bad. I bought a supposedly 'NEW' wetsuit from them. When I received the item I opened up the box and yup you guessed it. They sent me a USED one. Not only could I tell as I pulled the wetsuits out from the torn plastic bag. But when I looked at the wetsuit that they sent me there was sand all up in it. WTF! To make it even worse the wetsuit had smudges all over the arms. I wish I could have used this wetsuit and gave a good review, but unfortunately I can't. I'm sure it is a good wetsuit based on the other reviewers, but my advice is to just drive to a store. You won't have to second guess what your size is and you won't have to deal with these shady people trying to sell you used wetsuits as new ones that you pay full price for.

Not bad for kayak fishing. Fits good.
My weight doesn't match my proportions. I currently weight 250lb & 6'2", have a 44" chest, 36" waist. According to the chart on the O'Neill website, I should be between 210-230lb, which is the XXL size. I was a little concerned about this, but went ahead with the purchase anyways. The fit was near perfect except for a little looseness around my knees. I plan on losing another 30-40lb, but I feel like this wetsuit will probably still fit me. If not, it's not so expensive that I couldn't afford a replacement, or at least have it altered. The only thing I don't like about it is the back zipper. I'd prefer a front zipper, but can deal with it, as it will be used only infrequently. If/When my bladder becomes weak, I may need that front zipper.

worst high end wetsuit I ever purchased
worst high end wetsuit I ever purchased. I typically pay $150 to $300 for a wetsuit every few seasons, this one leaks, is thinner than 3/2, lousy material and construction.
