Works fine on a Mac, but with a few qualifications.
Looks like it works well on my Mac, a mid-2011 iMac with Sierra 10.12.5. Software downloaded and installed easily. Plugged in the device and it and the Apple Airport wifi were recognized immediately. Wifi connected with no problem. I use Little Snitch firewall/monitor and the seem to coexist just fine.My Mac's internal wifi card has been suspect for several years. After a few hours or minutes, it would claim to be connected at full strength but there was no network access. Had to turn wifi off/on to recover. No software or firmware fixes that I could find would solve the problem, and there were no problems with other devices. So far, this device has stayed connected. It supports the newer "ac" standard (Mac was b/g/n) could potentially be faster, but I'm on satellite which is the limiting factor. I immediately noticed that web pages start to load faster, and unexpected surprise. Measured download speed hasn't changed. Perhaps my internal wifi card was ailing worse than I realized. Some caveats:- Signal reception is good, but less than the original. This is as expected given the tiny size of the device. If you need range, consider one that comes with an external antenna. (This one does not, contrary to one posting that I saw for it).- The negotiated data rate is about half what an adjacent iPad shows and slightly less than an iPhone at the same location. I expect that this is partially a function of the antenna size and resulting signal quality.- This uses its own wifi control thingy, not the MacOSX control. It is a bit simplistic, so there could be a feature that you might miss.- As with all third party devices and software, there is always a potential for issues with on-going support and update timeliness.

Works perfectly right out of the box
I loved that it works perfectly right out of the box. I didn't need to even download the drivers. I'm getting 161/22 which is blazing fast compared to my internal wifi card on my 5-year-old laptop. Loved the ease of use since all I needed to do was log into my wifi and I was off and running. Not the fastest product out there but for the way I use my computer it is perfect. Highly recommended.

Great replacement for Stern Spike 2 pinball adapter
I was having issues with the Startech 'N150' WiFi USB dongle included with my Stern Spike 2 based pinball machine. This adapter was recommended as an alternative. This 'N300' adapter solved my issues and has worked flawlessly.

not good for streaming ANYTHING
My mac recently lost the ability to connect to the wifi using the internal wifi card and instead of springing the 200$ to repair it I figured this would suffice. The pros of it all are that its extremely small and compact doesn't add much to the outside of my computer, the cons are it constantly and consistently likes to go in and out, It seems its always trying to fight my computer. It also does not support streaming, every time i go to Netflix, hulu, hob, or amazon video it likes to say it cannot find the network.Maybe a firmware update is available or maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree but i feel like it should be able to stream.Overall though other than that gripe its pretty efficient, small compact and doesn't really add much to the exterior of my computer.

READ IF FREQUENT DISCONNECTS.
This usb wifi adapter works perfectly, but not quite out the box. It will function after plugging in (at least USB 2.0) but may frequently disconnect. To fix this, all you have to is install the drivers, then head to your device manager tab, find the USB tabs, click on properties on the USB root hubs, and disable the ability to power them off for saving energy. The device is also compatible with Windows 10 easily. Make sure to download the windows drivers, not the Mac, off their website.

Powerful WiFi For My Old PC
Just updated to a Win 11 Pro HP PC Tower replacing a very old (10 yrs) but still a very Powerful HP PC Tower. I'm moving the old PC to a remote area in the home to make room for the New HP PC Tower and needed WiFi for it since it's not equipped with embedded WiFi capability. Looked around Amazon at several different WiFi Adapters and found this simple yet powerful USB WiFi Receiver. I have to say, I have used USB WiFi sticks, etc., in the past and they were so so, but this model here is Extremely Fast and handles a great deal of Data and Video Streaming with ease!! Could not be happier with the performance and the simplicity of the device, as well as the ease of installation!! I Highly Recommended this StarTec USB WiFi Receiver for folks like myself who just cannot part with an older device, it's like an old friend.... The StarTec WiFi Receiver is FANTASTIC, and my Old PC Greatly Appreciates it!!!!

Doesn't work
Says it supports OSX 10.4 and the CD that comes with it has the folder of files that say they do but when you try to install them it errors out. Contact technical support - "no we don't support that". Sent it back.

works great for older macbooks
this worked perfectly for my situation, had an old macbook on el capitan that the wifi quit working on, this is one of the only name brand adapters i could find that works with el capitan, simply downloaded some drivers off their website, stuck em on a flash drive, installed them and the mac now has wifi

Efficace

Good for MacOS Mojave
I bought this because the Wi-Fi adapter in my laptop isn’t supported under MacOS. This little device worked perfectly after downloading the driver from Startech’s website (there is a CD in the box but I haven’t owned an optical drive in the last decade). Under Mojave it adds a separate Wi-Fi management utility and connection icon on the menu bar. Performance is ok, the device is discrete and was reasonably cheap.
