Good little umbrella
I bought two of these, so my hubby and I could each carry one when we hike. And they do the trick wonderfully. They're heavy, though, but I like that about them, because they're very well made. The additional ribs is probably what adds to the weight, but also gives it a very sturdy feel. I've carried mine at least 10 times so far, as we hike rain or shine and FL is very wet this year. It opens quickly, which is great when storms suddenly drop rain down on you. I've carried it during two rather heavy storms, with some strong wind gusts, and so far, no turning inside out. (The umbrellas these replaced would turn inside out if you breathed on them too hard!) The only reason I can't give these a 5* rating is that closing them is murder. You can close them to within the last .5-1" and then you have to actually push on the folded top and force it to close completely. And since it was open in the first place, it's wet! At home, no problem, I just leave it open and place on the lanai until it dries. But when we're hiking, we need to get it into the car quickly so that we don't get soaked... and that extra bit of work closing it is just enough to get us wet. But for the price, this is a good deal, and I would recommend it with the stipulation that it's a bit tough to close.

large diameter and sturdy, but it is also heavy and bulky, required force to close
its 102cm straight diameter (443g), really provided better coverage under heavy rain. i used a 90cm diameter (154g) umbrella before. i am 1.72m tall. my feet easily got wet when the rain was heavier.but look at its weight 443g, 2.88x over my original light weight umbrella. i do not want to carry such heavier umbrella in my back pack everyday with me. i would look at the weather, if expected there is heavy rain i would bring the heavier umbrella.more strong metal ribs on such umbrella, 10ribs, made the umbrella heavier, and bulkier. i think, if the umbrella is not used under strong wind, such many ribs are not needed. the umbrella can then be lighter, smaller.strong force required to close the umbrella- this is the first time for me to try such type of auto open/ close umbrella. it is such extra force to close such type of umbrella. my right wrist is recently hurt, i can easily feel the extra pain to close such type of umbrella. i do not think woman could close such type of umbrella easily. in some video ad, i noticed the woman did not close such umbrella easily.opening such type of umbrella is easy and fun. closing it is 2 parts. fun and force. on 1st part of closing, there is a large bang sound. fun to see it close at once, but it also scared other persons around, need to be cautious when closing the umbrella. 2nd part, need to apply some extra force to retract the umbrella. this part is not easy, not wanted. i thought there is a strong spring inside.I tried this 102cm umbrella under heavy rain for one time so far. my feet did not get that completely wet as before, but still got partly wet. I am looking to find some larger umbrella to test, one with 110-115cm straight dia umbrella.i did not find umbrella in such size at amazon yet. i looked at only the first 2 pages. most items are within the range of 95- 105cm diameter. some items never show its diameter, some only show its arc diameter. i wish the sellers could understand someday, straight diameter is more meaningful for a customer, to judge whether an umbrella could provide sufficient coverage. and for easier comparison.

Looked Worth It At First, But Cheap Parts Destroyed It
I'm not an umbrella guy. I'm never going to get one to look fashionable. I'll also probably never buy a large or expensive umbrella. Just give me something inexpensive that can handle a handful of downpours a year. That's exactly what I had before I got this one. To put things into perspective, my previous umbrella was a free promo one from Citi Bank. I kept it in the trunk of my car and only brought it out when I didn't feel like getting wet. For the storms I used it in, it should've never held up as long at it did. I can't tell you how many times a rogue wind turned it inside out. I would simply then face it back to the wind and force the wind to put it back to normal. I probably had that umbrella for at least three years. Finally, it had all it could take and a mighty wind destroyed it's spokes. So I went searching for a new one.I wanted something that was inexpensive, had great reviews, and would appear to last. After about 30 min to an hour, I came across this one. I read the reviews and liked what I saw. So I bought it. When it arrived, I was ecstatic. It looked cool, the handle felt so nice and comfortable, the rods holding it together looked like they could withstand a good number of spring and fall rains; I thought I had a winner. I used it five times and each time it did the job. But on the sixth...it failed me.It was raining pretty good when I went to reach for it. I was about to release it when I realized the release button seemed loose. I gave it a slight press and the umbrella shot open like it normally does...but then disaster struck. The whole release mechanism came flying out of the handle. I stared in disbelief and saw the reason why. One of the cheap plastic parts used to construct had broken. The force of the release then mangled the other cheap parts inside the handle and launched them in a wild fury. Six uses and the mechanism was shot. Now there's a few things to note here. 1) You get what you pay for. i should've known that something this cheap would have weak parts bound to not last. I just don't seem to learn. 2) It could very well be that one of the parts used was a bad part to begin with and it was mistakenly put in as sometimes happens in the industry. 3) I can still use and stow the umbrella as the velcro wrap will close it when not in use, I just can't retract the handle now.If it wasn't for the faulty release mechanism, this would've been a great product. Unfortunately, it failed me and thus receives this review.
