If the ONE MINUTE MANAGER wanted to recommend an engaging, actionable HOW TO guide for all Business Managers, this is that book
Leadership and Management Consultant, Sylvia Melena, Master of Arts in Leadership and Organizational Studies, artfully chronicles lessons learned over multiple decades in the trenches of Management. This is a HOW TO tool that will be valuable for all students of Business Management and seasoned professionals, alike. An extremely well designed and easy to read format will pull the reader through the life lessons in a logical progression. In addition to defining and demonstrating the four leadership styles open for consideration, with precise bullet point descriptions, the Author provides a summary section in each chapter called “Putting It Into Action”. Boiling each lesson down with action steps makes assimilation and application as easy as 1-2-3! While demonstrating the keys to maximizing employee potential, progress and productivity through SUPPORTIVE ACCOUNTABILITY, Melena shares a real-life storyline progressing through each chapter that shares the challenges, frustrations and ultimate successes of a cast of mid-level Managers and their mentors. I found myself rushing to each subsequent chapter to see how the characters prevailed or failed as they accepted their assignments to be both Supportive and Accountable in becoming effective Managers.

Get this book for all your leaders at all levels!
I remember the first time I became a manager. I wanted to be the best manager I could so I asked my manager for book recommendations to help me. He told me the best thing I could do was to care about my people. That was one important piece, but I wish I would have had this book back then! All the important aspects are covered here, from how to provide feedback, the ingredients for creating a strong relationship with your people, how to set and enforce clear expectations, how to properly and fairly monitor performance - there are seven pillars covered in all. This is practical, real-world advice that every manager and leader should have. I also love how the author uses stories to illustrate her points, bringing the application of the information to life. Get this for all your leaders at all levels.

Pretty basic, helpful if you're absolutely new to a leadership role
This book covers the foundations of good leadership and people management. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it does touch on all that you would need to know if you're new. It's a good read if you're really green and just finding your way in a management role. However, if you already have been working with people and managing staff, this might be too basic for you.
