Pickle-Chiffon Pie [Bradfield, Jolly Roger] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Pickle-Chiffon Pie Review: Among the Very Best of Modern Fairy Tales - In 1900, THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ was marketed as retaining the wonder while elininating the heartbreak and blood-curdling incidents of traditional European fairy tales. As anyone who has read the full original version knows, in the case of Baum's magnum opus (which I dearly love), this was pure marketing hype, not to call it outright mendacious. If applied, however, to PICKLE-CHIFFON PIE, it would be the plain truth. Jolly Roger Bradford really does deliver on Baum's heding promise. I loved this book in the late 1960s when my best friend had it in her toddler daughter's small library; I was purely delighted to find it still (or again?) in print today, ready to be acquired for my own bookshelves. Review: PIckle-Chiffon Pie, Jolly Rodger Bradfield - Pickle-Chiffon Pie is delightfully bizarre and gently instructive - one more wonderful Jolly Rodger Bradfield book! The princess must decide whom to pick to marry... her father, the king, simply can't stand sharing his Pickle-Chiffon Pie any more; he's tired of the hoards of suitors sitting at his table every night - so he sets an ultimatum: the princess must choose now! The contest begins, and the princess and her queen mum of course are discerning, and the tender-hearted considerate prince wins out over those with physique or natural talent. The illustrations are vibrant and humorous and the story line flows beautifully. Boys and girls both enjoy this read: pre-K to 2nd grade... parents too!

Pickle-Chiffon Pie
Sadly Jolly Roger Bradfield is no longer available and while his books are still available, they are not touted as much as in former years. However, the Jolly Roger Bradfield books are wonderful! Our children were raised on these books, and loved them. They were delightful, wonderfully tongue-in-cheek, and full of surprises for little ones and adults. Our daughter has begun to introduce the books to her daughter, who also loves them. My favorite is "Pickle-Chiffon Pie", which in typically Bradfieldian fashion is inundated with a king, a lovely princess, a noble prince, a giant, a dragon, a witch, a three-nosed snozzle, and, of course, Prince Rupert, the hero and many others in a wonderful melange of adventure and humor. Let your little ones return to the days of yesteryear for a glorious adventure.

Great story
This was a favorite when we were kids, and it is a favorite of my nieces. The story has a nice message about the value of kindness and consideration for others- an important message to teach kids! We bought it to read to a young child. She could help, but not read it herself until she was almost 7.

Original, humorous and has a great moral - #1 in my trick bag
My elementary students from grades K-5 all LOVE Jolly Roger Bradfield and this is their favorite title. The illustrations are funny and useful for my young, often ELL, readers. The text is rich with vocabulary, invented words and a pleasing read-aloud rhythm. The moral is an understated version of the golden rule with kid-friendly supporting reasons. I use this every year during the first week of school and regularly give copies to new teachers. We revisit Pickle-Chiffon Pie multiple times throughout the year to discuss character traits, opinion writing, descriptive details, plot structure and many other Common Core reading/writing topics.

Lovely sequel, not quite as good as the first, but worthy
My children love the book PIckle Chiffon Pie so we purchased this sequel. It is a lovely book with a few giggles and cute illustrations. The book does not quite live up to the original, but it is still a worthy read, even if it is not one we will read again and again.

Great book. A classic. Came fast and in great condition. As usual, the box was much too big but it's a small annoyance at worst.

This book is such a great way to get little girls to think about the "Prince" in a way that many forever after books miss. It is fun and the drawings are great!

This is a wonderfully imaginative story with no bad guys, beautiful pictures, and a princess who has a say in her life. Perfect! My 6 year old daughter and 3 year old son both adore it.
