WordPress 5 Incomplete?
This book is almost completely about Blog sites. The first mention of non-blog sites and e-commerce ones occurs on page 353 of the 404 pages. You may be able to drag knowledge about themes and such from the blog body but it won't be easy. If you're a blogger, go for it! Otherwise, run like a bunny! Also, this is a "how to do what I did, my way" book. If you are looking for book covering all of the features of WordPress in a comprehensive and organized way, look elsewhere.

Complete? 'Portfolio' isn't even in the indec
I bought the book as an artist wanting to redesign a website. I intend to pay someone to code it. This book is full of code I don't ever want to touch. One tutorial I listened to elsewhere mentioned a Quotes Page. The Index in this book does not include the letter Q.Correction: can't find any info on the web about "Quote Pages." Too bad, I could have used one.

Awful Illustrations
Illustrations in the book which are screenshots are awful and way too small. Examples and links used are NOT helpful. BAD purchase. I would not recommend.

OK for the basics.
I bought this based on a recommendation from another website that suggested that it covered WordPress in more depth than a lot of other books. However, on receiving it, I found that it really doesn’t cover any advanced WordPress topics in any depth, or at all.If you’re looking for a basic “how to build simple WordPress sites” book, this would certainly be a good option - hence the 4 stars - but if you want to dig any deeper or do proper theme/plug-in development then it really doesn’t cut the mustard. Where it does cover such topics later in the book, the treatment is still pretty superficial and only gives a fairly brief overview. With so many basic WordPress books now out there, it’s getting hard to find any that cover development within the Wordpress platform itself rather than just “how to build a WordPress site” type texts. This book is really just another one of those - albeit a good one - not for serious, in-depth development.
