A comprehensive, lavishly illustrated guide to tying popular trout flies. This book is aimed at all fly tyers, from those with modest experience to those with more advanced skills. The author’s intention is to focus on certain important elementary techniques, and then share some of his favorite contemporary twists on old, tried-and-true techniques. Many of the flies in this book are based in his own techniques and patterns, ones that he has developed in more than thirty-five years of tying. The book is arranged in sections to give readers the opportunity to easily locate the pattern or technique they are looking for. Patterns are not grouped alphabetically, but by technique. For example, the section on dry flies has categories demonstrating a particular dry fly style or technique such as mastering the use of deer hair, parachute, CDC, and so on. If you are fairly new to fly tying, the opening chapters on materials and special techniques and tricks will familiarize you with some basics and help you get started. Seasoned tyers will similarly find information here to help them raise their tying skills to a new level. Each pattern is listed with a recipe, recommended hook style, size, and materials. They are listed in the order that that author uses them, and illustrated by the book’s step-by-step images. This will help you plan each pattern and assemble materials your beforehand. Included are lushly illustrated photos for such well-known trout flies as: Pheasant tail nymph Klinkhamer Humpy Deer Hair Irresistible CDC Mayfly Spinner And much more. A special feature of this one-of-a-kind books is that its the first tying book to have a video link for all the patterns featured. Watch the author tying online, then turn to the matching chapter in the book to follow the step-by-step instructions so that you can tie your own fly in your own time. Author Barry Ord Clarke will respond online to your questions. Review: Beautiful book - Looking through this book is not only informative but the photography is a feast for the eyes as well. Beautiful photos, clear instructions with lots of photos, interesting information on each fly and the authors life plus codes to scan that will take you directly to YouTube videos showing you exactly how to tie each fly. I just started tying flies a couple of months ago and was afraid these would be something beyond my experience but each fly I've tried so far has turned out beautifully. What a boost to a new fly tiers ego! Highly recommend this book for any fly tier - beginner to expert! PS - be sure to watch the video that gives a tour of his fly tying room - now there's something to aim for. LOVE THIS BOOK!!! Review: Good - Love it great read

Stellar book....a treatise on fly tying.
Beautiful book, heavy, with terrific photography. And filled from cover to cover with what every fly tier needs, concise instruction on both recipe and technique. The YouTube feature on every pattern is a clever and useful addition, no doubt one that others will imitate. If you're going to buy one book on fly tying, I think this one may be it.

Detailed instructions and awesome photography
Being a. avid fly Tyers for over 20 years.....I purchased the book because I have been watching Barry's videos for some time now. This new book is an excellent reference for newbies or advanced fly tying! As a professional photographer this book was done with the proper lighting and backdrop, the graduated green background is a pleasure to look at to compliment all his patterns. KUDOS form one pro to another! Gongrat's again on a well done book, also enjoyed the input from Marc Petitjean, his master vice is pictured throughout this book, I enjoy my MP Vice, also enjoy using the MP tools, expensive but well made. Just purchase the book!

Beautiful book.
Beautiful book! I tied flies many years ago using an orvis book. Decided to get back into it and this book is great. It might not be the best for a true beginner though. The orvis book started with tying a Wooly bugger- a fairly simple fly to tie. This was good to build confidence and a good skills building fly. This book starts off with a mayfly nymph. It doesn’t look terribly difficult, but for my first tying project in 30 years, it’s a bit intimidating! The book is beautifully illustrated and the QR code link to you tube videos is really awesome. I love the book, but I do wish it started with a more simple fly to begin on.

This book is the best in my collection of flytying
Simply one of the if not THE best book I have on flytying. Fantastic photography, step by step instructions and each fly explains different flytying skills, this literally is a "take you by the hand " instruction of flytying! Then the scan abliity takes you to a video created on YouTube where the author is quick to reply to questions you may have. I thought for over a year well I'll just watch the videos without buying the book. I was definitely missing out the two are used together.

What beautiful flies! What a beautiful book!
I got hooked by watching the YouTube videos and bought the referenced book. What a surprise to see how beautifully rendered and produced this book was, then the benefit of seeing the entire recipe and step by step instructions taken from the videos. Great tying experience during my COVID break, now to get out and try my efforts to replicate his examples. Wonderful for beginners and advanced fly tiers.
