Saxon Phonics Intervention: Student Workbook

When I bought this book, I knew it was to be used in conjunction with the whole Saxon Phonics Intervention program. However, it does have some super lists of vocabulary words, phonic rules, syllable division rules, spelling words, sight words, and irregular pattern words. I used Hooked On Phonics and Phonics Intervention when I home schooled my children. Both had learning difficulties, and phonics based reading helped. (They both have gone to college.) Now that I am a geezer, I work as a private tutor. When appropriate, I use this system. The lessons are a bit dry, so I supplement with word based games, searches, mazes, etc. to mix things up. Children I tutor who don't have firm phonics based reading skills end up memorizing words. Most words become sight words, and they end up "reading" by guessing. Obviously, a severe lack of comprehension follows. English has many irregular spellings and pronunciations, but a strong phonics base seems to aid going from the specific skill of sounding words out to the global skill of fluent reading. Phonics Intervention is super for remediation. Hope this helped.

This has been a godsend for my family. Best phonics program I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot) Great for struggling readers or slow adult readers. I think you could even adjust it to introduce phonics to a young child (though it's not designed strictly for that purpose) The sentences flow and aren't choppy with the attempt to saturate the exercise with the new concept. This builds lesson to lesson very nicely and does not overwhelm even the most skittish of dyslexic.

I am so thankful for this. I have tried all sorts of reading programs. This curriculum honestly helped my struggling reader. I saw major improvements in reading and spelling. It does take 30-45 minutes a day but it is worth the time. Worth every penny.

It was not a workbook. It was a marketing sampler.

I love how the assessments and practices are included in this workbook and I don't have to run off copies.
