Ambient Weather Station is fun to use and accuracy is useful but not 100 percent accurate but decent for my needs
Ambient Weather WS-11 Weather Station REVIEW:My experiences with this Weather Station are pleasurable. It isn’t always within 2 degrees as description in the specs. It can get 4 degrees perhaps 5 degrees off the real temperature. On the other hand, it is within or around the 2 degree specs on this model many times. It does get right on the money on the temps at times. If you are after a thermometer that is 100 percent accurate then this model is not for you. However, if you are looking for a thermometer that is around the temperature and is usually around 2 degrees off the real temperature and can get 4-5 degrees off the real temperature at times then this thermometer station would be a good choice. The features with this model are fabulous and a real fun design. I am looking for the features of this model like dew point, max-min temperatures, barometer with weather forecast, and other features as well are a joy to have with this particular model. My grading would be A+ for the feature design and B for the accuracy of this model considering the cost and all the features with this model. If you don’t want to pay this amount but want similar results at a lower price consider: Therm Pro Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Humidity and Temperature Monitor model no.: TP-65.I do have the Therm Pro TP-65 and the Ambient Weather WS-11 Weather Stations and after testing both of them it seems at this time that both are very similar with accuracy. One is usually high as the other one is lower than each other. Keep in mind also, they are both around 2 degrees off the mark but can be at the real temperature. Throughout the day and night both are good thermometers and I would recommend both of them. On the other hand, I would select the Ambient Weather Station over the Therm Pro because of the extra features. In conclusion, I didn’t use online temperature to compare the real temperature results. I had at hand but not always able to use the red liquid thermometer and the Thermapen by ThermoWorks: model Mk4. Although the Thermapen isn’t a thermometer for air temperature it is always the same on my tests from the red liquid thermometer or about 1 degree from it. I do trust my Thermapen Thermometer because it always pass the cold ice test at 32 degrees and boiling water test at or very close to the 212 degrees (depends on your location for the 212 degrees for 212 degrees is for sea level). You can go back forth from cold to boiling water and the thermopen passes the tests. For cooking food the ThermWorks Thermopen Mk4 would be my recommendation for a good accurate food temperature. Is it good for air temperature? It wasn’t designed for air temperature however my tests show it is very close to my red liquid thermometer in my tests. At times the Weather Station measured by the red liquid thermometer is accurate many times and can be trusted for around this temperature thermometer. I look at it and know it can be off the mark so I consider it is mostly around 2 degrees off the mark can be on the mark and finally can be 3 degrees and not often over – 4 degrees – 5 degrees off the mark. Finally, I am happy with this Weather Station and I would recommend it for approximate temperature around 1-2 degrees maybe 3 degrees off the mark; at times can be 4 to 5 degrees off the real temperature. If you don’t get similar results, it depends on the method you are using for testing the thermometer for comparison. My method for testing my thermometers isn’t scientific and the final decision is yours but it does give references where it is close enough for me to consider for keeping a thermometer or returning it. I decided to keep both of my thermometers unless the results of the tests change dramatically in the next few weeks. I am almost finished with my tests and so far I would keep both thermometers.UPDATE:After further study the Ambient Weather W-11 Weather Station is a good buy – continue to be recommended to be accurate around 1-2 degrees and at times can be 3 degrees and perhaps 4-5 degrees off the mark here and there. The main reason to keep it is dependable to give a temperature that is useable information to decide what to do with the information – like approximate temperature – to decide what clothing to wear – is it humid or what the dew points is. I use it to give information for jogging and the information doesn’t have to be extremely accurate but I would like with decent accuracy.I have read other reviews here and perhaps the best solution is to try it for yourself and decide on how much accuracy does you want. Don’t get it if you want 100 percent accuracy because you will not get it most of the time. I get decent accuracy for my needs. Keep in mind, for the value it is unlikely you will get an extremely accurate device but it does serve a purpose of approximate temperatures with many useable features.Therm Pro TP-65 costs around $25.99 (doesn’t have all the extras)Ambient Weather WS-11 Weather Station: costs around $34.99Thermapen® Mk4 costs around $99.99 (at times on sale for $79.99)UPDATE:UPDATED INFORMATION:Recently, I have two of these, one of them developed a bad reading on humility or temperature was off over 20 degrees: contacted Ambient on their website: website form to fill out asks if I contacted tech support so I went to tech support number and told them what was wrong with it and they said I need a replacement. I filled out the form on Ambient and after a day or two I got an email saying they are replacing the sensor and I got it the next day in the mail.I got superb service with Ambient and after I contacted Technical Support and filled out the form on their website and one or two days went by and got the sensor in one day after the email.I noticed Ambient has this weather station at 29.99. I would buy it and included the extended warranty for three to four years for 3.00 dollars or less. The Weather Station is worth the try: I enjoy this model a lot very pleased with the performance and the Customer Service will be quick at helping you out if this Weather Station doesn’t perform as it should.

Works great out of the box!
I needed a new weather station- the old one was starting to malfunction and I had become adjusted to having basic weather info at my fingertips. After much searching, I decided on the WX-11, because it showed a lot of data, it was colorful, and I could use a pool temperature sensor with it (purchased separately.) Everything was packed well and the instructions were easy to follow. I had both sensors up and running in just a few minutes. The numbers are big and easy to read, and I am waiting to see if the colors are helpful or a gimmick. I'm very happy I purchased this, but have two cons, one small and one larger. The first has already been mentioned, but the company does not send a screw with the outdoor sensor. After some rummaging around, I found one that will make do, but it's a curious omission. The second and more serious complaint is the AC cord. I assumed it would be at the bottom or the back of the unit, but instead, it's on the side, making it pretty much impossible to hide. This clumsy engineering is the only real issue I have- other than that, works great!

Good Weather Station With A Few Conditions
After reading the manual on how to set up the display unit and outdoor sensor, the instructions recommended that both units be allowed to equalize or settle down in temperature indoors. I calibrated both units to an accurate digital thermometer. However the requested 30 minute settling time seems to be way too short for the sensors to equalize. It's actually more in the range of 1 hour or more. However, after placing the outdoor unit on a garage door post that was shaded by an eave, the sensor was off by as much as six degrees higher than the digital thermometer. It turns out that outdoor sensor placement is critical in getting an accurate reading because it is very sensitive to ambient heat sources including the wall it is mounted to. This in effect is good and bad news. Good because it is accurate to even slight temperature fluctuations. Bad because it will be inaccurate since it can pick up stray heat from its mounting source. The solution to this is to either hang the sensor from a string or fishing line or hang it from a long nail, but in both cases the sensor should not be touching any surface and should be free standing, if at all possible. But after dialing in the calibration feature for the display, both sensors are spot on in their readings now. The display, as some have pointed out, is very detailed. Some complain that it is too busy, but I like all the info it displays and I feel that this layout is much better than most of the other weather stations that I have seen. It displays the daily high and low historical readings for temperature and humidity, shows the historical data for barometric pressure, shows indoor and outdoor temperatures, current indoor and outdoor humidity, gives a trend indication on whether the temperature is going up or down, and even a "weather forecaster" that gives a guess of weather conditions in the next day or two. And of course, there is the display that visually tells you what comfort zone you are in as it relates to the temperature via different lighted colored backgrounds.I only have my indoor console running on batteries, and the LCD display is crisp and sharp. I don't use the colored back-light much, so I do not need to plug the unit in to use this feature. I can always just tap the "light" button and see the colored display for a few seconds.Setting the unit up was pretty straight forward and not very complicated if you take your time. Some may feel there are too many button presses to change the various setting displays, but the setup is pretty logical. And if you forget what does what, the manual is clear on what you need to do to change the parameters.Once you understand that the outdoor sensor placement is critical to accurate readings, you're golden. Customer support for the WS-11 is excellent and they will help you with any problems on the setup or questions you may have. But one thing should be made clear to any wonks or OCD types out there; this weather station is accurate to within certain parameters and does a very good job of it, and shouldn't be expected to perform with the precision of professional meteorological instruments. If you understand this, this unit is great for what it is was intended for. I like it a lot and refer to it for biking weather conditions in order to dress properly for my daily rides.
