Great iron, whether to iron or steam clothes
Well, I'll tell you this is the biggest clothes iron I have ever had. I didn't realize it would be so big. But it does a great job. So far I mostly press my work pants. But this Hamilton Beach iron gives you many choices of heat, and they let you choose according to the type of fabric (such as cotton, or linen, for example) and it tells you the heat level. I like getting info like that because who wants to make a mistake with a too hot iron? I also love the way the cord just zips back into the iron when you press a button. The whole reason why I bought this new iron is because I needed one that would steam my tencel pants, which wrinkle after washing. That fabric is impossible to iron straight and then I read online that steaming it works best. I confess I'm not an ironing geek so who knew? But it is easy to use. Comes with a manual. And you can go on line to Hamilton Beach and get info there and I like a company that provides a lot of info on its product. I specifically bought this because it is a Hamilton Beach and I have had positive experiences with their other products. If you are looking for a small, light iron that will press anything fast, this probably isn't your model. It is big, but heats up fast and does a great job but it is a bit heavy. You can put water in to spritz your clothes before ironing or you can put the water in to steam articles straight, or like me right now, just turn it on and iron your work pants. I photographed my iron next to my size 6.5 running shoe so you could get an idea of its size. I have had this iron for at least six months or so and no problems whatsoever. I recommend. I flopped the photo but I guess it did not turn here.

Great iron for ironing klutz
I read many reviews for many irons before purchasing this one. Found the reviews generally inconsistent, possibly because different people have different ironing needs, possibly due to them receiving irons with varying levels of quality assurance. Ended up making a list of all the features I wanted in an iron. As far as my needs: I've hated ironing, was always bad at it, never found old-school irons intuitive. I've used my Jiffy travel steamer (it's good), and dewrinkled clothes by spinning them in the dryer some, but am trying to reduce/avoid the dryer as it's expensive and not good for clothes, and some items can't easily be steamed. And I was curious if modern irons had improved. Since I've avoided ironing, I don't have lots of clothes requiring it, and I don't quilt or have other crafty needs, so my ideal iron is easy to use and doesn't have to be super heavy-duty. The first of this model I received emitted a strong chemical smell when I tried using it. I exchanged hoping Amazon had given me a dud, so this review is for the replacement. This one also smelled a bit on first use but I pressed on (haha) since new electric appliances sometimes do that. By the second use the smell was gone. Hamilton Beach does appear to have satisfied much of my wishlist: Steam/water: * no dripping * efficient steam; can steam lots without having to refill the water tank frequently * independent steam setting dial * water tank easy to fill from tap, translucent with a max fill line; does not require distilled water (there's a note to mix if your water is extremely hard) * burst of steam a bit underwhelming; it works but I prefer the push-button sprinkle feature Cord: * while ironing, cord stays out of the way all by itself! * retractable cord retracts easily (I hold the cord while pushing the button in bursts) Soleplate: * raised soleplate; no fingers hitting the bottom of the iron when it's sitting upright on the board * soleplate doesn't stick to items; pointy tip reaches small areas General: * digital display; no dial to move accidentally while ironing; beeps when ready * iron is not "tippy" and stays put when you sit it upright on the board to fiddle around with the clothes * iron is a good weight; not too heavy to shlep around but heavy enough to press readily What I don't know yet: * how long this iron will last (went ahead and purchased the extended warranty) * haven't tried the self-cleaning button * how the soleplate fares with spray starch, since I generally don't use it * how well vertical steaming works since I don't use it (since I have a steamer) I can say I got into this iron as I went along and found it easy to use. It heats up quickly (not on my wishlist but nice to have), and one or two passes, three at most, remove the wrinkles. All in all I am happy with this iron.

good iron, one small issue or safety feature?
hello, i have had the iron for couple weeks. the iron seems solid, heavier than some, glides nicely, retract cord works well, steam is plentiful, a little gurgling at times, but not unusual compared to other irons, haven't noticed leaking or dripping so far. The auto timers functions have been tested by me and work to spec each time. 30 secs on side and horizontal and 15 min vertical. the issue, which is no doubt a safety feature , im thinking and someone correct me if im wrong.- when ironing , moving the iron at all times and not picking the iron off of the clothing during that time , the iron wil shut off after 30 seconds. i rarely have the iron on the clothing that long without moving it or bringing it vertical etc.. to move it to another part of the clothing etc... .... so 95% of the time i wouldnt have seen this occur. anyway, Once it occurred , i repeatedly tested it for about 5 minutes , timing it with my amazon dot:) which i love by the way . i set the timer for 30 secs and started ironing, not lifting the iron from the board and it always turned off either at 30 secs or a few secs thereafter. i repeated this about 10 times. so my conclusion- after initially thinking that maybe it was a malfunction, , is that it is working properly. if anyone else has any thoughts please let me know. thanks, John

This is a terrific iron with a self storing power cord. It heats up quickly and holds its charge for a decent length of time. It shoots out a good head of steam and is a joy to use.
