Yes, that’s what I used to hang it.  The light has a base, so you can lift up the light from it to change the batteries without removing the base.

Could this be used as a vanity table light?

This is the easiest “screw to wall” light I have ever hung on a wall.  It is very lightweight, and all you need are two plastic Sheetrock anchors and two small screws.  You MUST make sure that the holes you drill in the Sheetrock are NOT larger in diameter than the anchors!  That is where most people have trouble. In addition, make sure the screws you are using are large enough in diameter to spread open the anchor in the Sheetrock.  I have 3 of these lights.  It took about 5 minutes to install each, or 15 minutes total.  I put them up about 4 years ago, with the original anchors and screws, and they haven’t moved, fallen out, or anything close to it!!  Once installed properly, they are solid!!! You can easily remove the light from the mounting bracket to change the batteries, then slide the light back on without any effort at all.  They are great lights and VERY EASY to install.  The guy who said they are difficult to install and he’s waiting for them to fall off, either did not use the right size drill bit of the anchors, used screws that did not work properly with the anchors, or he’s a complete moron!!  There is NO WAY he spent 40 years doing anything  mechanical, and couldn’t install these properly!!  NO WAY!!  I would be very nervous if I lived by the nuclear power plant he worked at!  Again, it took my 15 minutes to natal 3 of these lights!!  They are solidly attached to the wall, and have been on my walls for roughly 4 years!!

How are batteries installed

The batteries go in the black rectangular base.  The base slides off/on the mounting bracket easily to remove it from (and place it back on) the wall when you need to change the batteries.  It's really very simple.  Note - the light dims as the batteries weaken.  So if you feel it's not bright enough lately, just change the batteries.
