Review: A 'manual to humankind' - in the most approachable, friendly, and helpful way. - Helped me take charge of my own mental growth. It's what I've always imagined psychologists read: a "manual to humankind." I know so much more, now, about the way humans work. About the way I function. And I can use that knowledge to help my counselor help me - and also simply to help myself. It's both technical and approachable - in ways that it's hard to imagine making it more effective, more easy to read. Probably the best introductory textbook on ACT out there. And probably worth reading even if you're familiar with ACT - because he organizes the information and practical lessons so well.

Simple, as promised
This book is really helpful for understanding ACT. He writes as if he's teaching therapists, but it's good for self-help too. He has online videos and worksheets to support the book. The voice on the audiobook is well done. I'm thinking about getting the spiral format because I think it would make a good reference.

A Complex Topic Made Enjoyable and Easy To Understand
The title of this post says it all. This book speaks to the reader in a very human way. It simplifies complex topics and makes everything easy to learn. I loved the style of how it was written because the author seems humble and isn't trying to sound overly smart with technical jargon. There is also a fun aspect of humor sprinkled throughout to keep things light hearted. I enjoyed the entire experience and learned a lot!

Great introduction to ACT - Kindle edition a little clunky
This was a great introduction to ACT for me. I like the author's writing and therapeutic style and felt I could relate to the case examples. I found it a concise introduction aimed at the therapist who is exploring ACT for the first time. I also appreciated the homework given at the end of each chapter. This review is also designed to give some information about how the book works on the kindle. As a reader of non-fiction books on an e-ink Kindle (Kindle Touch) I'm always wondering how diagrams and some formatted text will make the transition. If you are buying this for a Kindle, know that there are some diagrams that will be difficult to read. I have good eyesight and could make almost everything out. Someone who has trouble with small print would probably be frustrated. And there were a few unreadable diagrams that were only marginally better (but readable) on cloud reader. Luckily the author has published most of the difficult to read text on his personal website. The bottom line: This is readable and useful on Kindle, but there are some frustrations.

The best ACT book!!
I had ACT made simple (first edition) and debated getting the second edition. I AM SO HAPPY I DID! I work in a treatment center and we have an ACT group so this book is the best! I go chapter by chapter each week with the clients and it's great! It's easy for myself and the clients to understand! And it's so much better than the first edition! It also has a free website that has even extra handouts and worksheets and YouTube videos to help clients understand. 10/10 recommend!!

Good primer
I like this book to accompany the main acceptance and commitment therapy book of Hayes and co. Doesn’t include RFT though so you will need to learn that elsewhere

very easy to read and very practical,
less academic and theoretic, this book tells therapists how to get in there and use ACT, what are the questions, when, how, why, great metaphores etc.I am enjoying it and I can see my clients are getting benefits of how my knowledge has increased.

THE Textbook on ACT
I was recently introduced to this topic and was looking for a textbook and this didn't disappoint. Written in an easy-to-understand way, without oversimpifying the topic while doing it justice. It clearly explains the various elements of the model, the tools, metaphors and how to overcome the challenges one would face applying it. The BEST part - actual dialogues that show you how the theory translates to language with another human... if that isn't a textbook, I dont know what is! Really no idea on how else could this improve; I'd come back to this again and again, and... again!

Clear and Accessible ACT Introduction for Non-Therapists
I’ve finished the first few chapters and so far this book has exceeded my expectations. I am not a therapist or a mental health professional—just someone with a strong interest in psychology. I have been in therapy for many years (mostly CBT-based), and reading this book felt both refreshing and grounding. What I really appreciate is how accessible the language is. Even without a psychology degree, the concepts are explained clearly and without unnecessary jargon. ACT is presented in a very practical, humane way that feels applicable to real life rather than abstract theory. The focus on acceptance, values, and psychological flexibility resonates deeply, especially if you’ve spent years trying to “fix” thoughts instead of learning how to relate to them differently. This book helped me understand my own therapy journey from a new angle. Highly recommended for anyone curious about ACT, especially non-therapists who want a solid, understandable introduction that still has depth.
