Lite Source LS-80984D/BRZ Duality II Torch LAMP, Dark Bronze

I purchased this same brand and type of light years ago from a department store (probably 2004 or 05) and it worked great until a few months ago when the base broke. Having two dimmer lights was perfect - especially for reading.I was very excited to find the light on Amazon, but it arrived with the frosted glass broken. Amazon being the SPECTACULAR company that they are, sent a return label and refunded me right away. I have reordered again to see if I have better luck with the second light. I'll update my review when it arrives...-Update: 11/7/2014. Received another light yesterday and it arrived unbroken. It was a little difficult to assemble, which resulted in a few minor scratches to the paint, but overall the light works great. Love have two dimmer lights again. Revising my original rating from 2 stars to 4.

So I got this home and took it out of the box. It was immediately clear that the factory packaging was substandard. I suppose it might have been a rough ride, but I'd expect a lamp - yes, a lamp - costing a couple hundred dollars to be well-packaged. Not this one.Anyway, the top bulb was broken and glass chips were rattling around the metal top of the lamp. There was, however, another bulb included, so I put that in and everything came on okay. But then I noticed that the glass base of the the top of the lamp was broken: a big crack right down the middle, which splits the 5-inch-diameter glass right in two, though it's held into place by the metal tray.So, in the end, I spent time fishing around for little chunks of bulb and, worse, I quickly discovered I'd been shipped a damaged (if somewhat functional) lamp - all due, it would appear, to inadequate factory packaging.It takes some assembly - things didn't fit together all that easily because of poorly machined and/or damaged threads in the poles - and would be a lot of trouble to ship back, so I suppose I'll just keep it and make a point of never ordering another one.

This lamp produces fine light given the government standards reducing the bulb wattage. Took a little while to assemble because I did it by myself. Would have been a piece of cake if I had a second pair of hands.

Terrible packaging. Broken bulb. Hard to assemble, pieces did not fit together well or securely. Would not order again.

This item does everything I expected it to do. Putting it together would have been a challenge without two people though. Fortunately I had read some of the other reviews and was allerted to the small (tiny) screws that attach the shade part and the fact that it can be adjusted by the poles that attach to the base. Also, make sure the holes in the base are alligned with the base cover before the double stick tape is secured. This does take some patience and two people. It was worth it! It is perfectly straight and is the perfect amount of lighting for the area I wanted it to light.

I read the previous review describing the poor packaging but decided to risk ordering in case it was a one-off.It wasn't.The outer packaging was woefully insufficient and there was no inner packaging of any kind to protect the glass parts inside, it looked as though the parts had been thrown into an empty box rather than placed strategically to avoid damage. The contents were inevitably damaged - the glass bulb cover had smashed, the fixings were rattling round the box and as a result the lamp itself was badly scratched.Like the previous reviewer I decided it was probably not worth the hassle of returning so started to assemble the lamp only to find that one of the two rods attaching the lamp to the base was the wrong size and provided no support!Back it goes...

I'm 75 and this is the best lamp I have ever owned. I have purchased 3 of these lamps over the past 25 years.
