Perfect for your vegetarian guests on Burns Night!
I bought this for a Burns night since it is next to impossible to find fresh haggis in the U.S. and I wasn't about to make it myself. I wanted both traditional and vegetarian versions as I and several of my guests are vegetarian. Despite being an expat Scot and living in the US for decades, I have never attempted a Burns Night event. I have to say it went so well that I think we'll make it an annual event. None of my guests had tried haggis before and they were all willing to try the vegetarian (except for my husband who just decided he wan't having any thing to do with this haggis stuff!). I was nervous when I ordered this and the meat version as the latest date for delivery was January 30 and I was ordering in the beginning of January. However, I was pleasantly surprised to have this delivered within the week! It was easy to prepare. I just scooped it out into a microwave dish and heated it for several minutes. I also served mashed tattoos (potatoes) and keeps (turnips) and the evening was a success! I do have to admit that when I opened the can it look remarkably like dog food, especially the meat version, but it tasted really good. Very flavorful and spicy!

Expired???
The 2 cans arrived with no dents and the seals appear to be intact, however there is no expiration date. I emailed the manufacturer and gave them numbers printed on the can and they told me it was so old that they don't even have that manufacturing number sequence in their system anymore. I have heard that if you don't dent or break the seal in a canned good, then it is potentially "good" indefinitely, but I'm not exactly anxious to try that theory out on my family.

Would buy again... Someday.
I don't know what "real" Haggis is supposed to taste like, but I enjoyed this. At least this version doesn't really remind me of meat - more like a dip, that would go well with crackers or toast. I would buy it again, but at $14/can, that's not going to happen anytime soon. Amazon also shipped my two cans in a padded envelope, so *obviously* the cans came very dented.

good veggie alt to meat
The meat version of Stahly's haggis is great and this is a good second. Not as much depth in flavor as the meat version, but seasoned well. Reminds me of refried beans, but not as dense as a can of refried beans due to the oats. A little over spiced for my taste.

Wonderful - just wonderful!
This is DELICIOUS. I actually bought two cans - one as a supposed humorous gift for a Scottish couple. The other can I kept and looked at every so often and wondered how bad it would taste.Decided to take it to work, microwave it and share with the team. Opened up the can: looks a lot like pate - solid. Put it in a bowl and heated it. Smelled great. Tasted even better. Now I wish I had not given the other can away! So I bought more. These folks at Stahly's know what they are doing! Oh yes they do!

It's not bad, particularly with Uncle Roys Haggis Sauce
It's not bad, particularly with Uncle Roys Haggis Sauce, and tasted better to me that the meat version of the same product.

Mmm, haggis
Okay, it's vegetarian haggis, not real haggis, but it was tasty, peppery and distinctive just like a haggis should be.My only complaint is the price. I splurged $25 for two cans, and that's not happening again soon. Serving suggestion: roast potatoes or mashed potatoes, and carrots & turnips.
