Water tester 💦
The Testers work great! Very simple and straightforward!

Accurate!
I have several other tds meters. One is so cheaply made that you have a hard time turning it off. And it measures at least 2 ppm more than this one which is much more accurate.I like the translucent dark blue look. And when I press the on/off button it turns on and off THE FIRST TIME unlike other units I have owned. It has a simple on/off and another button to hold the number so you can take it out of the water and look at it.Simple but more of a quality unit compared to other units but not much more money at all!

Good purchase.
I'm not concerned about the point-on accuracy of this tool as much as being able to see how my pump system and various filters are working. I use water from our spring-fed river... probably the only place in my small town allowed to do that because I have a grandfather clause (this was one of the first houses built in this area and the original settlers just pumped water straight from the river). Occasionally we have heavy rains that affect sediment, but the rest of the time we always believed that the water straight from the river is drinkable. We had it tested officially about 15 years ago and we were told by the county agent that our river had the least contamination of any he'd ever tested. So disregarding temperature preferences for accuracy, I tested several points in our system. Water straight from the river, unfiltered, measured 275 before the first sediment filter and 225 after. That filter is mainly to prevent any debris being pumped into hoses, showers, sinks, washing machine, dishwasher, water heater, pressure tank, etc... the basic water in our home's pipes. It's time to change that Culligan sediment filter, but I doubt it does much more than screen out the largest particles.Next, into the kitchen to check the Reverse Osmosis system we use for basic drinking water, and it measured 28, so I guess that means 90% of the particle contamination has been removed. Of course we have an ultraviolet post filtration trap to zap amoebas, but I think 28 is a reasonably clean system for filtration. If I put in all new filters it would maybe be a few points lower, but that seems insignificant to me.The HMD TDS tester is super easy to use, as can be seen on several YouTube videos, so no need for me to go deep into operation and accuracy, but basically it is just a matter of popping off the lid, rinsing it off in the water to be tested, carefully filling the cap, then slowly plugging the business end of the tester back into the cap full of water. Press the power button, let it stabilize, press the hold button and remove it. Turn it off after you've seen the reading. I believe the instructions said it would turn itself off if you forget.I'll probably take this tester with me as I go different places just to test and compare. I can't say this is within 1% or even 10%, but using the same meter to check several places would certainly let you know if a filter is doing its job or not.Good purchase. I'd give it another star if I was worried about accuracy and had it tested / calibrated professionally, but I'm happy enough.

Must have for a salt-water pool
I bought this almost 6 months ago so I've had time to use it and see if it could be used more for pool testing. I was concerned it wouldn't give an accurate reading since the salt ppm I was interested in was much higher than what others were mentioning in their reviews. Needless to say I'm thankful beyond belief that I found this and wished I had thought of looking for one earlier; this thing could have saved me thousands of dollars.Little history before I get to the nuts and bolts of my review...Bought to test salt levels of a salt water in-ground pool on the gulf coast. Units similar to this are for sale at pool supply shops online and locally by me for $150-$400.Salt water pools take the salt in the water and "zap" it so it becomes chlorine. My salt ppm needed to be between 2700 - 3400; 3200ppm being ideal, due to the sensor going bad, I kept adding salt and I was close to 8500ppm. Unknown to me, my pool was giving a low salt reading; so I kept adding salt. Bad move. $800 for a new chlorinator sensor and I found my salt levels were almost triple what they should have been. Thankfully, the new sensor won't turn on if the salt gets too high. Since salt is a solid, there's only one out - drain it. 15,000 gallons of water were pumped out onto the lawn (killed off anything green in that part of the yard for a while) and spent a night hearing the well pump run (bad electric bill that month $$$)Since getting this tester, I've been able to double check my pool salt level so that won't happen again. The tester is easy to read and use, honestly I didn't read the manual. For my purposes, I'm happy with a +/- of 100ppm. I did have some solution on hand to calibrate when it arrived so I did that first. It was slightly off but hasn't slipped since. I would encourage anyone with one of these pools to have a secondary tester like this and use it (depending on rain and splash-out) weekly to monitor levels. Paper strips wouldn't have worked for me due to the humid climate but this still looks like I took it out of the packaging. If/When the pool's sensor should decide to fail again I'll be able to save a lot of time, money and effort. It was an amazing value compared to what pool stores sold and a lot easier than running around with water samples only to pay someone else what I can do with the push of a button.
